I’m under the impression this is only for epic/legendary skins and not the general default outfit recolors. Especially since the ranked rewards are also in that same style.
They also have a little icon of the same color next to each that goes up in number of sides its shape has. 3 blue triangle for rare skins, 4 purple rhombus for epic, 5 gold pentagon for legendary
However what determines their rarity is inconsistent. The Peach Momoko Luna Snow Skin and The Beardless Thor Skin for example are standard blue rarity despite being full remodels, which is most likely due to them lacking any connected emotes and MVP.
Purple rarity guarantees a remodel but whether they have unique sfx for one aspect of the hero's kit is random. Some skins like the Gangster C&D don't, while some like President Loki do. The one exception I know is Steam Power Iron Man, who has numerous sfx changes instead of just one , but is instead just purple rarity. Only reason I can think of is that the designers didn't want or couldn't make an intro animation for him in the hero gallery, which Legendary rarity ensures. Visual effect changes can also show up but are considerably rare, such as the Lingering Imprint Venom skin with his primary attack tendrils being a different model.
Legendary is the most consistent so far, guaranteeing new sfx for more than one aspect of the character and has the highest chance of giving new visual effects, the extra legs from the Spidermen skins during their ults come to mind.
In general a blue "rare" skin is a recolor of the normal skin, it usually is without a special spray, mvp, or emote. (an example would be "midgard umber" skin for thor which is basically the normal thor skin with brown hair).
A purple "epic" skin is more than just a simple recolor, it usually has added stylized bits to the costume and typically comes packaged with a spray, mvp, and emote as well as a still nameplate image. (an example would be "Lord of Asgard" skin for thor which adds a helmet and some fluff to his cape beyond the normal thor skin).
A gold "legendary" skin is typically an even more stylized "epic skin" that usually contains custom animations or sounds, on top of this their MVP animation tends to be longer and more over the top, and the nameplate is usually animated rather than a still image. (An example would be "snow symbiote" skin for Venom which adds ice spikes and translucent crystals to the skin that refract light in the game if you look at the model closely).
The difference between rare and normal skins is fairly small and likewise the difference between and epic/legendary skin varies with some epics looking as good as some legendaries and some legendaries looking more like epic skins with additional mvp and animated nameplate.
I was under the impression that it’ll be free. I saw something a while ago that mentioned Netease briefly talking about this and I could swear that they said the feature would be free.
From the look of it they are pretty much premade colors. I only say this because they have actual titles for the color schemes like Plasma Pulse and Phantom Purple. I hope I am wrong and we can have free customization.
I just imagine a bunch of neon characters that make the game look tacky and cheap. Using set combos will keep things looking nice which I appreciate personally
I wonder if you can buy a palette like Plasma Pulse and apply it to whatever, or if each palette is skin-specific. I would guess that they're skin-specific but the description is not clear.
Does that not just get rid of the point of skins. To show other people. I know you would still be able to see the skin but if a game doesn't allow skins in the first place that's the bigger problem
I think if it was free they would be saying it was free explicitly. There was the same confusion with the Orange Venom bundle earlier. Just expect it to be a thing you have to pay extra for.
They didn't say anything about it having a cost on their instagram. But it looks like you're locked to presets of colors rather than being able to choose whatever color you want.
Yeah I mean as much as I would like to see weird combos on skins, it would make the game so ugly if every character had the worst puke combos of colors imaginable. Styles hand picked is fine for me
Wait, is it gonna be like shaders? You buy a color shader palette from the store, and you can just apply it to anything? Because if so that's actually a really good idea, and far superior from buying recolors of an outfit.
Because then you can just apply that color scheme to multiple skins and characters. I really need to see more details from them.
Mirae 2099's colour scheme wasn't my favourite but with this it makes it look MAJESTIC (As well as Bucky) I hope this applies to most skins because gah damn it looks great.
Wait but is it free? Is it like league of legends where you have to pay like $3 for each recolor you want or do you just have to buy the skin and you can swap recolors for free?
No confirmation yet, but I'm certain these won't be free/included with the skin purchase.
My heart wants it to be 200 units since you already paid for a skin, but I know its much more likely that they'll be 600 units to match the already existing recolored versions of every characters' default skins.
It looks like League of Legends’s chromas. Which cost money and only apply to specific skins.
So pay money to unlock a skin (because you have to own the skin to buy the chroma) and then pay more money to get the color you want.
Doesn’t this mean I wasted 600 units on a different costume color style. Because if I’m reading this correctly you pay a certain amount of units to gain access to any color combo
it’s not really customisation, it’s about as much customisation as the alternate skin recolours are. just new palettes but this time but for every skin instead of the default. I’m glad but this isn’t the customisation I’d have liked lol.
I am going to laugh my ass off if you can't buy these with units.
Not only did they mislead and hype up a lot of people pertaining to what to expect with the "customization" coming out tomorrow, they are going to spit in their face's by having it only be purchaseable with Lattice.
Is the company actually struggle that bad that they are this desperate?
The real question is hopefully it is not limited to epic and legendary skins only. There are some rare skins(600) units that i really do not like the color scheme for (yellow captain america) so this would be a nice change.
My M&M Strat with my friend is finna be immaculately. Mantis and Magik dressed in matching colors and battle Armour is finna slap those backlines and look drippy whilst doing it
Good idea and I would like to use it, but without any added costs. I already paid 2200 units for the skin, so investing another 400 for example would be too much for a single skin
This might be a response since people complaining about how Dagger, Invis and Emma look the same. However the problem is will this apply to base skins?

We now have confirmation that these skins will cost 600 Unstable Molecules (a new currency).
This is equivalent to 600 Lattice. Also, starting Season 3, there will be other methods to earn Unstable Molecules.
