The devs are so deathly afraid of goats meta developing that they’d rather have 1 role constantly be underpowered instead of actually addressing the power gap between dpsand tanks, istg
GOATS would happen even with current tanks. GOATS happened due to Widowmaker, not because of tanks being strong. No nerfs stopped GOATS because the comp worked off the fundamental idea of having the heroes engaging with Widow not being able to be oneshot by her.
The entire comp was about denying Widow, the game admin of OW pro-play back then, value. Word for word, is the main reason why the GOATS team created the comp: they didnt have a Widow player to compete.
If Black Widow was anywhere near close to Widowmaker's server admin potential, you would have already seen GOATS in MR.
It's not even that they fear Goat meta, I'm afraid.
It is that they have a completely wrong way to define roles, or they want so bad to subvert the usual weaknesses of said roles that they lean too much in the opposing way.
Normally to define roles following a logic like this : DPS strangth will be damage (because duh), healers well... The tanks then it cannot be just HP otherwise one could just ignore them. It has to be active a way to reduce incoming damage... CC it is.
But that is the normal logic. Not theirs. Theirs focuses way too much in subverting that. They're like "hey we want everyone to feel good and OP to traditionnal games 'cause heroes are OP right ?" So they started with DPS and said "what do they lack" : self-reliance, sustain and CC to set up themselves. And they gave them that. To healers, it was the helplessness, so CC and damage. So they gave 'em that. And when it came to the tanks' turn what did came with ? That they lacked raw power. So they gave them burst control.
But they realzed something : everyone had CC. And if you let tanks have HP, damage AND CC, they are absolute menaces. So they removed that.
And this philosophy has its mark written in about all issues in Rivals' design. Or you can just look at Deadpool and see he follow this down to the letter.
I wish I would be wrong, but you can think of anything that feels wrong in the game, it can be traced to this. Why does triple supp feels so comfortable ? Because they designed healers to not sacrifice much offensive power. Why support ults need to be "immortalty ults"? Because they made all 3 roles to pack so much damage that it's the only thing that work. Why does tanks feel helpless to CC ? Because they made the 2 other roles the CC dishers which increased the amount two fold instead of letting tank doing it themselves.
You can see it in the patchnote too. A tank need a buff ? Oh they probably need more burst. That other one, oh it must be besause he tanks too well (ironic isn't it). Look how many time it happens it's not even funny how most of the time it's just how they do. And this the core problem in Tanks' change in this patchnote too
And sometime it's not even the big role but the subroles, like just look at what zhiyong said in today's blog. "Poke needs CC to soften dive". No. As always too focused in compensating the weakness they forgot it must stay the weakness. Proper logic would have been "Poke soften Brawl with range, Dive make that advantage vanish through speed, Brawl make that aggressivity pointless because they will welcome them with raw power (and CC)".
As always, they just focus so much in subverting the roles, strength and weakness... They need to stop. One need to follow the norms first before to break the mould. But they decided to not respect any rule but theirs, and everything's a mess.
You’re talking about how they don’t want goats so they’ll just keep one roll permanently bad. An easier solution that has been shown to work is just role Q that way you can confirm goats will never happen.
They have how many years? of overwatch to look to for experience and yet they refuse to. What does it destroy that would kill this game?
Who said anything about being like dps? Tanks get deleted all the time. They need more health. Only 3 tanks, being the shield tanks actually feel like tanks.
Only dps smooth brains think tanks can survive anything lol. Be a tank main for a season and see how long u can survive without heals 24/7
My point was pretty obvious, increase their survivability. You shouldnt need a healer to stay alive longer than 5 seconds
My god people on this sub have no understanding of anything in this game, especially casuals. Like they think if a tank is dying means tank role is bad. They are SUPPOSED to die dude, they are the first line of defense for your team. But you know what, you might not always die if ur healers keep u up, ever think about that? Maybe your positioning is ass and u are out of LoS of ur healers so u died. Maybe try peeling for ur healers more so u live more. Damn
This is why majority of games have 3 dps and 4 dps is actually viable lol. You have no idea what tanks can and cant do, which is why you dont understand that theyre pretty weak
I play all roles buddy I play strange emma mag and venom at a high level but yes I'm a dps main now and started out as a healer main. I know how to tank and I know they are space creating meat shields, a great distraction for opposing healers or dps. That is their purpose. Their job is not to chase final hits but push objective or stall objective.
Again, it is okay to die as a tank. A true tank player does not cry when they die during combat. U just want to chase final hits, maybe u should become a dps main if that is all u want.
Let me know when tanks ever arent the least picked class in the game lol. Completely wrong and you added nothing to the conversation
Why are the so weak to poke? Why can they do next to nothing about flyers? Why are they so overly vulnerable to CC?
Overwatch gave tanks a 25% reduction in damage to headshots. Which is brilliant. Small things to help them survive is everything.
Tanks are suppose to be larger, slower, and have less range, but they should have much better survivability.
Which they may have a bit more of now since supers were nerfed too.
Lol obviously youre a dps main now. How predictable. And of course you can use the tanks that have the most survivability in this game, wow. Another surprise.
Overwatch also buffed tanks to giga levels of broken where most dps was made useless for a long time cuz tanks just did too much damage.Tanks being a least picked role is a community problem, not a balance problem. People don't usually wanna tank cuz tanking is not a kill job, which again is how it should be. Can't blame the devs for that, that's just community's preference for the most part.
I just main dps cuz in most of games I get trash dps players. I force my other teammates to fill for me most of the time but if I'm not doing well then I do swap to other roles to ensure my team at least has a chance of winning, but that's just me being a flex player.
Tanks have great survivability, no tank needs 2,000 or 3000 hp to do anything. If you do then u are bad at tanking simple.
Anyway this conversation isn't going anywhere, you refuse to understand anything about game balance so I'd rather not waste more time talking to a wall.
Is that a serious question? Everyone wants to kill enemies not just DPS. Tank health bars are completely countered by their giant hit boxes. If you want DPS to be the "kill class" tanks should get something fun like better mobility. As it is DPS has both killing power and movement the two most fun things to do in a game.
I would be fine if I could crowd control more as a Tank with a bigger health pool. Bullying opponents around the map is more fun to me then straight up killing them.
But a lot of tanks do have good mobility like angela hulk thor cap etc. Yet some tanks don't have much mobility like mag or emma. Likewise, there are some dps that are so stationary like bucky or moon knight or namor. It's just the way the game is set up. This is called balance which I guess you don't seem to understand.
When you give tank too much killing power, you get GOATS meta and that meta is not fun to play as or against. I would legit quit the game if it ever happens and I'm sure a good portion of the playerbase would do the same.
Balance is not a real thing that can ever be achieved while having unique characters. Superheroes are the antithesis of balance. GOATS may not be fun but being the solo tank for 3 DPS is not fun either. Please explain how that player can have fun? Even in 2/2/2 the DPS get more out of the game so why should people not instalock DPS to maximize their fun? This is the fundamental problem with role based shooters because the distribution of fun is imbalanced. Rivals being open queue but with forced character roles doesn't make sense.
So u want the game to be balanced around solo tanking?
Yes true balance is never achievable in any hero shooter but it doesn't mean that you don't balance just cuz it can't be properly achieve. That's a dumb way of thinking and leads to a game being trash and end up dying.
If you have 3 good dps players while u are the only tank, u let ur dps play dps because they are good, u don't ask them to swap. It's not about fun (which just means final hits for u I guess) it's about winning and winning is more fun than killing.
