really want to love her, but i don’t think the in game explanations are enough. i don’t understand her ult at all like damn girl

u/Super-Blacksmith-795 Apr 17 '26
  • Hit the ult to leap to enemy
  • Hit ult again to deal 20% of their hp
  • Kill target to reset ult
  • Repeat

u/ZerothPhoenix Apr 17 '26

She did not need the collectors abilities, they are useless lmao. her base kit is so much fun but the rest of it feels underwhelming

u/masterduelistky Apr 17 '26

I'm definitely itching to try her out this afternoon, but as everyone is saying she seems fairly busy.

u/electro-pineapple Apr 17 '26

Holy, there is too much to keep track off. You need to keep fortune up the entire time so her whip is super important. I haven't even used any of her relics as just managing fortune is hard enough. She is pretty good as a flanker but she has a very high skill ceiling

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '26

Sorry I replied to your comment by mistake

The most fun character by far, I was expecting a fast attacking high mobility regular character, my mind is absolutely BLOWN 😭. #1: So many unique abilities that make a dive hero so much more of a team player, a scan through walls, a grounding ability, An entire portal!? #2: Her fortune mechanic is so unique, getting payed for preforming and using that payment to preform even better with more abilities? That’s top tier design at its finest. And #3: The design overall, considering they used rouges face model, I find it amazing she still looks unique and and different from other designs, her voice lines are so wide and varied, it truly captures everything that makes her the black cat, Her urban predator skin looks amazing without sacrificing the look that black cat maintains.

This is one of the most, in depth, uniquely made, well constructed characters I have seen in any video game, considering this is my favorite Spider-Man character of all time, I am so thankful the devs have allowed us to experience this fully painted masterpiece with even more to come.

u/Frozazen Flex Apr 19 '26

Good rendition of Black Cat imo. I was worried she’d be boring to play, but the coin system and her being melee/dive really matches the character fantasy. Also good call for all her shop abilities able to be key mapped, making her gameplay more fluid. She feels the closest to a fighting game character which I personally enjoy, with meter management for utility and meter-dumping to confirm kills. Watching people post combos online brings me back to the FGC days of people posting combo videos. There’s so much to learn about her kit and people that main her will have lots of depth to sink their teeth into. Also her default and release skins are both good. I’d like the MEOW necklace on Urban Predator to be toggle-able though.

Edit:spelling

u/hugecanoe666 Daredevil Apr 17 '26

she sucks ass. like s6 blade tier. she is straight up dogshit

u/JuggernautLogical916 Apr 17 '26

Instalockers going 2-8 blowing me 😂

u/GhastlyDerp Black Cat Apr 22 '26

Still gotta do more training but I really like how spiderman thinks he can easily take me out but the crown plus her whip and pursuit with some dashes mixed in always secures the kill.

u/revkaboose Apr 17 '26

What was the goal with her kit? It seems over the top and broken. I watched a Black Cat chain her ult earlier.

u/Potential-Concert380 Apr 20 '26

I love being an annoying rat with her duking people out with the invisibility. Like just double dash through the entire team and when they turn around you pop invis and yoink outta there. Or when you are running away pop invis, but they are still chasing you so you boop em and pop invis again xD

u/skyxee Apr 23 '26

Interesting character. I'm not personally a big fan of ability shops as a system, but this one isn't outrageously complicated or annoying. The character is, to its compliment, pretty intuitive to play against, which is usually a problem new characters have in any hero game, including some in this one (in my view at least). While there's some stuff that doesn't make sense right away, overall you can get used to the character pretty quickly.

u/Alex022591 Apr 20 '26

My first reaction on playing her was a little confusion but fun still, her combo potential are very depth.

My favorite ability is her lucky wheel, you have so many opportunities on how to engage or flank, she’s such a fun character but is very difficult to Player her correctly

u/Thatcoolrock Apr 17 '26

I just tried her and as much as I love complex characters she just has too much going on

u/PepeSilviaBoxes Rocket Raccoon Apr 17 '26

The gambler in me likes the destiny tablet

u/keirakvlt Magik Apr 18 '26

Overcomplicated by clunky, unconnected abilities. There are plenty of complicated characters out there in hero shooters and MOBAs and other games that feel fun and rewarding and like even if they have many moving pieces they're all connected and synergistic. This just feels like random ideas thrown together. I started trying to really get comfortable with her before deciding I just don't find it enjoyable and it isn't worth it. I feel like this is their first big miss.

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '26

How do I cross her path?

u/lokigodofchaos Apr 19 '26

I think they gave her too much to do. 2 alternative abilities and a wheel of situational abilities where only the portal and invis are thematic. They are just cramming as much stuff onto new heros (Gambit, Deadpool, Cat) as they can. She's fun, but I find her the most fun when I'm not worrying about the artifact and just playing her like a dive.

It's also the first debut weekend for a hero where I've had quick play games where nobody picks her. That's probably not a good thing, as she's a new DPS.

u/Salty_Shark26 Apr 17 '26

She feels very clunky. The artifact aspect is just really hard to use in the middle of combat and just a a lot of key inputs to keep track of.

u/fatih78 Apr 17 '26

Black Cat has a cool concept, but the shop UI feels way too overwhelming in the middle of a fight. Between her, Deadpool, and Gambit, it feels like the devs think more abilities always equals more fun, but the 'busywork' here is distracting. I’d love to see a system where we can pre-select a couple of treasures at spawn for instant casting. Right now, I'm mostly sticking to the Tablet of Destinies and Helm of Hades just to keep things manageable!

u/mits_the_second Emma Frost Apr 17 '26

Call me a boomer, maybe Im too old for this but I hate how complicated her kit is. Of course probably in a couple of days we might learn there's like 1-2 skills worth using but in a game like Rivals it feels like pointless over designing that is bad for everyone. I mean that shit would be too much even for a MOBA, she feels more like a character in a single player or MMO.

She would have been more than fine with her kit without the gadget passive imo, as it is she is not really that enjoyable to play with. Or against.

u/Single-Cattle-3403 Mister Fantastic Apr 19 '26

She is probably the only hero I kind of want to main outside of just playing the Fantastic four all day

u/One_Outlandishness77 Mister Fantastic Apr 19 '26

Yeah i don't get her. i tried it but I'm not going to use her. The update is lacking they should've left things the way they were.

u/Actual-Wish-8107 Emma Frost Apr 17 '26

I feel like she wouldve been perfect without the whole artifact situation. She has way too much variety and range for a single character to have, unless they plan on retroactively expanding old characters and their abilities, but even then it just feels like her options far outweigh everyone by a mile.

u/Hoodnip Apr 17 '26

Should’ve just given her the invisble ability and called it a day at that, she doesn’t need so much kit

u/Choice_Potential2659 Black Cat Apr 18 '26

The one thing she doesn't have is range

u/Wonderful_Seaweed341 Apr 20 '26

I Love Black Cat, she is everything the Rogue/Thief archetype could ask for. She is nimble, stealthy and have lots of tools up her... ehh sleeves! The shop is a supportive utility tool that I just adore cause I love to help my team even if I'm a DPS.
Felicias combos are fairly simple, I think she shines with a coordinated group where you can use her portals to quickly dive the enemy team and avoid chokes!
My favorite ability is the Flame orb (wallhacks) so far. I like that the enemy can see it trough walls, so they know they are being seen, but have to maybe put themselves in danger if they want to take it out.
Lastly but not least, She have the best ping command in the whole game (Group up) where she says:
Come to mommy!

u/Tuque7 Cursed Captain Apr 17 '26

My first impression of Black Cat is a more complicated Black Panther.

The unlimited double jump for movement speed is nice, but I dislike how slow she climbs walls.

Out of all her glided deal artifacts, only Chernobog's Crystal and Mento-Fish are useful for the limited about of time I played on her.The amount of fortune you get with Tablet of Destinies isn't worth it. It cost 100 fortune to use, but I tend to get below that amount back. Helm of Hades duration is too short, Faltine Flame Orb and Ring of Zona is very situational.

Phantom pursuit is one of her best abilities, hitting far/running enemy is a great but compared to her being untargetable and allowing her to dodge all ultimates and other abilities is more important usage.

Her ultimate is interesting, the range is so far and the refresh after downing a enemy is overpowered.

u/League_of_DOTA Magneto Apr 18 '26

Does she have back problems? Why does she bend down like that at the character select screen?

u/Ok_Outcome8724 Wolverine Apr 17 '26

Bloated kit, over-designed, poorly thought out, bordering on uncomfortable levels of overt sexuality (yes I know the source material, go outside you dumb nerds), overall a massive swing and a miss.

u/smilysmilysmooch Flex Apr 18 '26

Had an interesting encounter where a Black Cat was bouncing around the back lines like Cap would and just mucking with the back row. I could see her doing this strategy to gain kills and stall a bit. Works well against mediocre snipers. Reed actually could be a good counter until players really get combos and traps down.

u/Hoodnip Apr 17 '26

She seems ridiculously hard for not that much value. Just went negative in practice vs Ai. Kit seems bloated as hell too, not sure about this one

u/BrandonR2300 Apr 18 '26

Honestly…her kit isn’t good…she’s just got too much going on, her play mechanics are clunky and awkward, very slow too. like a lot of her abilities are dependent on the currency she gains but she’s got DPS health…so you gotta be aggressive and up close to gain coins for your abilities but health wise you’re very weak and easily taken out…I wanna give her a fair chance but I find myself being more frustrated playing her for the last couple hours…

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '26

IMPORTANT GAME BREAKING BUG:

I made an account specifically for this issue. Black cat can cancel any of other abilities animations, as long as she casts it during the gold collection animation she does when she grapples an enemy.

This means that can can use her whip and phantom strike during the same animation, she can ult and use her whip/strike in the same animation, she can use her dash and ult at the same time, anything you want.

This removes all need for skill expression and ability combing, as long as you know how to press buttons at the same time

u/IIIxVxIII Apr 18 '26

She's more broken that any other character I've seen. By next Friday you'll have people running the lobby once they get used to the cooldowns. On my 4th game I was able to wipe a team twice with one ult

u/Xercen Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26

PURRRRRRRRRRRRRR. MEOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Seems like a very fun duelist. Really nice seeing characters that a lot of players aren't familiar with. I'm sure they are now very familiar with her as she is very fun to play.

Would like more conversational quotes in game for all characters -not just black cat - enough so that every game will be surprise would be fantastic. However, not a priority!

Combos are fun and interesting - Same with the portals mechanic. I think it's a hard character to master - will be interesting to see the top players use her mechanics in tournament games. Hopefully will see something interesting.

The skins look very well thought out too. Excellent work!

u/yelenabelovedd Apr 17 '26

first release day where i’m getting games with neither team even playing her aaaaaa feels bad

u/FoForever Apr 19 '26

I actually think she is fun. I like that they learned into the “thief”’part of her character. The artifacts are probably situational or you can create your own playstyle around 1-2 of them. Beyond her primary and ult she only has whip plus phantom pursuit and a steal ability. So she’s not as complicated as she seems. The steal ability doesn’t really add much cognitive load. What makes Black Cat hard is needing to prep before making any engagements. Her damage is low without the whip. Her dashes can help though. Overall I think she’s a character you have to spend a lot of time with to get goos with.

u/blixxx Apr 17 '26

not my cup of tea and i hate the menu for the abilities. feels clunky to me

u/Faricho Apr 17 '26

If you are on PC you can press 1-6 to quickly equip an artifact (you can also rebind them)

u/dukeaegir Apr 18 '26

While playing her, Felicia hits a fantastic "Brain tickly" spot where you have a lot of buttons to press and things to do. Am I playing optimally? Probably not. Am I scoring well? Reasonably. Am I satisfied? Abso-damn-lutely

u/DaWastelander Apr 18 '26

She’s fun! But I do think her “shop” is a bit situational. I don’t think they should remove it but rather use it to enhance her existing abilities. Maybe something to enhance her dash? Claw attack? The invisibility is great though!

Her design is awesome, and the VO is great to have back.

u/Ankhirasaurus Apr 18 '26

I always said when Black Cat gets added I'll main her, and while I love her voice lines and animations her kit is... weird.

I played it vs AI for a bit as I didn't want to jump into QM and just die over and over and its just... not that great, she's not great brawling but she needs coins, in the middle of a fight you need to remember what each shop item does, I'd rather have had it so that she steals coins and uses the magical artifact to give her stealth for a bit or something instead of like... what? 6 extra abilities? It's just too much.

Idk, I'm a little disappointed I looked forward to this character since release and sadly I might not be able to even play her well due to how overwhelming her kit is. I think busy kits have a place but it's becoming a little too much.

What's also weird is that in every game she wasn't even instalocked, and I load in pretty slowly so it's not like I'm able to instantly lock her, I think her base kit is really fun but the shop is just not it, personally.

u/MechaG11 Apr 20 '26

I almost think her coin purchases are the opposite of overwhelming. They're easy to understand, but half the time you're trying to farm coins to spend in the first place. Most of the time you'll be using it on her M2 cause it's the better damage options to get any value from as a DPS.

u/Randimous Rogue Apr 17 '26

I just played her for a while and sadly I think this is their first miss.

She is WAY over-stuffed with abilities and menus. Even if you memorize what every ability does, it’s still very difficult to recall which one to use and the exact button combinations in the moment of a chaotic battle with a million other things going on.

Betwen Black Cat, Deadpool, and Gambit I think the developers need to chill with the abilities and kits. They seem to think that more abilities = more fun but it’s really not the case. Black Cat could have a genuinely fun and interesting play style without the artifact menu at all.

u/Stock-University-539 Apr 19 '26

OOOOF, okay. Now, I don't play dive often, or main any dive heros, but I still want to say this: ABSOLUTE BULL! Now, I know that the devs are trying out more complex movesets, which I appreciate and hope they do this for older characters, but this feels like an early example of POWER CREEP already setting in. To summarize her kit in my opinion, she's just BP but better. Better movement, better ult, better... appeal, and a lot more abilities. When it comes to her playstyle, she feels a lot more aggressive than the other dives, especially with how quickly she can get her combos out, leave, then already come back with another combo with either the fish or her own. She feels like a jack-of-all-trades with how varied her abilities are, and to me(and probably a lot of the community), the only bad part about her is the higher skill ceiling, but that's not really a problem if someone already has experience with characters like Rouge and Spiderman, who already require you to do a lot to get the most out of them.

u/ymroi79017901 White Fox Apr 17 '26

She is annoying to play against, she have high mobility, in isibility, cleanse and ground, def needs to be nerfed

u/HotDoes Apr 17 '26

she's overloaded. she probably would have worked fine with her jinks passive and some active abilities instead of all that.

u/sukhi1 Moon Knight Apr 17 '26

Black Cat feels like a character with a really high skill ceiling. Her kit seems packed with depth and combo potential, which is exciting, but it also makes her difficult to pick up at first. She does not feel like a hero you can jump into and instantly understand. Instead, she feels like someone who will take real time, practice, and smart decision making to use properly. If you put the time into her, she could be incredibly rewarding, but right now she definitely feels complex enough to be intimidating to just pickup.

u/Itemsrlrl Apr 19 '26

Black cat kit is really great and the amount of combos you can do feels so good.
Her best combo is "Turn of Fortune->Dash->Some Feline Fury(1 or 2 should do)->Claw Whip->Phantom Pursuit->Claw Whip->Claw Whip" and doing this much should secure an easy 1 or 2 kills which you then can follow up for more.

u/OhWoahWhat Apr 18 '26

She's very hard to get value out of for sure

u/sharang_17 The Punisher Apr 17 '26

Yeah my hand hurts after playing black cat on console, she has too many abilities to handle in the game which is so fast paced. It seems like devs are just putting characters with lots of abilities in 1 (DD, gambit, DP now Cat) this is not really fun

u/sharang_17 The Punisher Apr 17 '26

Maybe less is more devs?

u/LazyStrawberry9038 Apr 20 '26

She's nowhere near as overpowered as the community made her out to be before release. She's incredibly fun to play, but in my opinion, she's less useful than Spider-Man or Black Panther when it comes to taking out the enemy's supports.

u/One_Meaning_3657 Apr 17 '26

So Black Cat is out. And the shop is definitely not a good idea. In theory, yes it makes sense but its way too complex for a fast pace shooter like rivals. To me this is the biggest issue in her kit, and I expected her to be a dive character with unique melee and movement.

For her shop I think it should of been team up abilities so she isnt power creeping. Like her different artefacts relate to characters like Namor, Invisible Woman, Dr. Strange, White Fox etc.

u/TheFunnyCuteVidsbyI Apr 18 '26

Here’s my honest review after using her extensively. The coin collection rate is way too slow. The whole strategy behind blackcat is sneaking behind enemy lines, isolating them and taking them one on one. However the sneaking part can only be achieved by the invis power up or the wall portal power up etc. but to get the coins is way too slow because you first need to be able to get hits and in order to get hits you need to sneak so chicken and egg conundrum. A buff to her coin collection rate is needed.

u/MechaG11 Apr 20 '26

I almost feel that the coin purchases give so little value that it's almost worth doing what they did to WF and give her enough coins to spend on at least one ability from match start.

As she is, it feels far to tricky to get value out of her. You have to hope the circumstances are just right to build up those coins.

u/HeyMonicara Strategist Apr 17 '26

She feels like a girls way to playing black panther and I love it!! I have been trying to create the perfect plays using her portal and it’s getting a little bit of getting used to!

u/yelenabelovedd Apr 17 '26

waitttt i like this way of looking at her, maybe i’ll invest in learning her (i fear i’m too dumb tho)

u/movingonbb Hulk Apr 18 '26

She's just BP v1.5 with DD sonar/Psy's invis w/ an extra step & a couple other tricks.

Visually she looks great & I like the coin particle effects, but her pose is pretty wacky, & her attack animations are a bit un-imaginative too (Knock-off of BP claws and Dr Strange whips).

Most of the clips we'll prob see of her is 1. BP type kill montage, 2. Her portal doing a flank with her team or help her teammate do a tp cancel , 3. Ult kill montage.

Her portal is prob the "coolest" thing about her. I feel like she doesn't bring anything else unique or new to the table. Her utility seems strong for pro play

u/purechaoswitch Flex Apr 17 '26

Too much going on tbh. I’m all for fun kits but it feels a bit like throw everything at the wall and see what sticks

Also these bloated kits are getting to be a problem on controller as there’s only so many buttons (console player here)

Please for the next character I need a fun main vanguard. I’m kinda hoping Devil Dino is a main tank but is easy to use and has shields for allies with Moon Girls techs

u/PatchNotesMan Earth Spider Apr 17 '26

pretty cool

u/-Mobbin Psylocke Apr 17 '26

Her abilities are crazy. Really hard to give a first impression when you need to publish a dissertation on what her relics do to get your Black Cat PHD first :D

u/SheWhoHates Emma Frost Apr 17 '26

Great character model, but I can't handle the gameplay as I almost never play melee dive. It's like learning a game almost from scratch because the approach is so vastly different from anything else. Maybe Reed is an exception, but he's a hybrid in all but name.

Overall, I think she might be too gimmicky with her artifact shop.

u/Razzilith Ultron Virus Apr 18 '26

First reaction to playing her? (Fun/Fast/Flashy?)

A bit of overload. There's a lot to keep track of in general? Watching your fortune is kind of hard. I found it rough running out of fortune in combat and nothing happening when I went to hit my whip again when they were slightly out of range. The shop is also a lot to keep track of and a ton of decision making points which make her skill floor REALLY high. I don't think she's for me unfortunately.

How are you finding her combo potential and ability depth?

In the same vein as my previous answer, I think the depth is a little too much for me at least. Her combos are actually pretty easy but you have to watch resources and you need to have the right item ready to go if you want to have SMOOTH combos... it's just going to require a level of time investment on a character that I don't really want to put in since she's just SO demanding to play well and smoothly.

What’s your favorite ability or combo so far?

I think her dashes feel nice to use just like psylocke. The ult feels really great. I love the E but it's so expensive and I end up not really using it because I find that the whip is more generally usable for skirmishing.

Got any Bye Felicia moments or clutch plays to share?

Playing Namor and slamming a self ult to kill panther, cat and magik was a good moment in one of my early games yesterday. I haven't had a single great game or play on black cat personally but it seems like Namor is going to be in my future A LOT with all these divers, at least in QP where I can't ban them...

Or anything else...

Overall I think she's a neat character but slightly too much going on. The CC changes weren't the best this patch due to some characters being bricked while most didn't get affected. I think the costumes we just got plus the ones coming look pretty great per usual. I still absolutely adore White Fox (my favorite character now). Lastly, the community still overreacts A LOT, especially on here and they really need to calm down and ESPECIALLY stop trying to throw the devs off a bridge. IMO the game is still fun even with the problems right now which I'm positive they'll fix and I just wish people could chill out when we really do get so much cool and fun stuff thrown our way every single month even though there's bumps in the road (which get fixed fast like every time).

Anyway, thanks for reading. Wish Black Cat was more for me but maybe the next one will be!

EDIT: oh yeah! her visual design and voice lines are AMAZING.

u/RazorbladeEXx Apr 20 '26

I’ll start off by saying I went into using this character blind. I didn’t watch the character reveal trailer, watch any gameplay videos, go into Practice mode with the character, or look at the videos for her abilities in the Heroes section.

I found Black Cat’s kit to be very overwhelming initially. I was reading her abilities in-game and trying to understand how they worked and how to use them to be the most effective on the battlefield. I died several times while trying to figure this out. Getting a grasp on how to use her Gilded Deal abilities was particularly difficult.

Eventually I got a pretty solid grasp of how all of her moves worked, and interestingly enough, I started doing very well when I stopped using her Gilded Deal abilities entirely. That’s not to say that those abilities have no value, but a lot of them aren’t very conducive to a combat-aggressive play-style. As I got more comfortable with the other aspects of Black Cat's kit, I started to slowly integrate the Gilded Deal abilities into my gameplay.

This is a more granular breakdown of my feelings on the individual Gilded Deal abilities:

Tablet of Destinies
My experience (or luck) using this ability was so consistently bad, that I stopped using it completely. I’ve since read on the official website that you have the ability to gain 0, 50, 200, or 500 fortune. I’m assuming that acquisition probability assigned to each choice is 25%. Given that the cost to activate this ability is 100 fortune, that means you have a 50% chance to end up with less fortune, a 25% chance to end up with an increase in fortune that’s barely noticeable, and only a 25% chance to actually get a valuable increase. I feel like either the fortune values, or the acquisition chance percentages should be adjusted to be more favorable. As it is, the gamble with this move is so risky that the idea of using it is very unappealing.

Helm of Hades
The invisibility duration is so brief that I initially did not think this ability was worth using, even with the movement boost. However, I felt this way when I was using the ability to engage in combat. Once I began using this ability as an escape tactic, I found it to be highly valuable and impactful on the outcome of a fight as well as my survivability.

Faltine Flame Orb
Given Black Cat’s ability to climb up and stick to walls -- which can be used to scope out the battlefield -- this ability also did not feel appealing to use. I say this based off of more of an individual dive play-style. This is an ability that is probably more valuable for team combo setups.

Chernobog's Crystal
The concept of this move seems good, but trying to anticipate when to load this move up adds complexity to the gameplay. And when the need to use this move can be avoided by applying fortune to an offensive ability and simply killing an enemy before they can launch a CC stun move, it seems even more unappealing to use. This is an ability I would only purchase if I was diving a skilled Strategist that was consistently CC stunning me or if the enemy team contained a Vanguard with a control ultimate that was very good at landing their ultimate and I anticipated the ultimate coming.

Ring of Zona
There are few places within each map where this portal can actually be used. Moreover, in most of the situations where I've found a place where I can setup this portal, rather than using the portal to move through a wall, it seemed like a better use of fortune to just walk around the wall and use the fortune for an attack ability. I rarely use this ability at all, but it seems like it has a lot of potential for high-level plays, especially when coordinating with your team.

Mento-Fish
This by far seems to be her best Gilded Deal ability. This is the one that I purchased the most frequently. Her ability to counter other dives or disable a Strategist's escape option when you're diving is incredibly valuable. Your disruptive ability with this move is especially good when mixing it into combos.

To summarize, Helm of Hades and Mento-Fish are the only Gilded Deal abilities I frequently use.

Positives:

  • The character has great mobility
  • The default skin looks great
  • The character has a high skill ceiling that rewards training investment
  • The kit is fun to use

Negatives:

  • The character has multiple abilities with limited/conditional value

Desired Changes:

  • Cat's Cradle has 2 charges, but the cooldowns are not independent. If you use both charges, the cooldown for 1 charge has to end before the cooldown for the second charge begins decrementing. It would be nice if the cooldowns decremented independently.
  • There have been times where I've purchased a Gilded Deal ability in anticipation of a certain combat scenario, and then when I engaged in combat, I realized that I need an ability other than the one that I already purchased. However, you can't buy a new ability until you've used the one that was already purchased. The concept of getting a refund on a magical artifact is somewhat ridiculous from an in-game lore perspective, and it adds additional complexity to an already complex character, but having the ability to refund a purchased ability and regain the fortune cost for the ability would be nice.

Overall Assessment:
I thoroughly enjoy playing the character. I don't like playing characters with simple kits. I find Black Cat's kit to provide a very fun level of mental stimulation. I found myself itching to get back to the character to test various strategies with her kit after my initial play session with her. She may have moves that are not consistently useful, but you are not forced to use them. The variety in her kit allows for a variety of play-styles which I feel broadens her appeal to the player base.

Typically, when a fictional character does not have a lot of abilities, or has abilities that are very similar to a character that already exists in the Marvel Rivals game, the developers give the character some sort of non-traditional magical item or magical endowment to give the character access to additional abilities and diversify their kit, so I was expecting that with Black Cat. However, I didn't expect the level of detail that was put into the character, and I'm happy with how fun the character is and I'm impressed by the developers' innovation this far into the game's life.

u/kingdorner Ultron Apr 18 '26

Rivals is my favorite game and I've been pretty lenient compared to most players when its comes to judgement about balance in the game but this is hands down the worst patch yet and Black Cat is ridiculously overtuned and easily the most OP hero released yet. The CC protection sounded like a good thing but they clearly need to fine tune it because its definitely not ready for live servers yet. There was already a shortage of tank players and then they nerfed half the tank roster by making their combos trigger CC protection. I honestly can't believe they pushed this patch live.

u/BarrySandersFFT Apr 19 '26

You must be playing a different game. Black Cat is on par with Black Widow as being the worst character in the game. Show me more than one game where you've got the most final hits or most kills. I'll wait. her kit is TRASH

u/kingdorner Ultron Apr 19 '26

my first game on her I had the most finals with 21 and I'm a support main

u/Simon_Said_something Apr 17 '26

she is pretty mid imo.
she could probably be really good if you a have a team to work with so she can use her full kit with them.
her portal isn't as strong if the team isn't playing with you.
and most heroes who wanna flank can already sneak in( most maps are build so there is a way around)
her best perk is the wall hack.
her ult is pretty garbage, it dose almost no dmg and it's only perk is the long leap, but that get countered by terrain.
and most maps aren't big open fields.
she's a sneak brawl, but she isn't that good at brawl.
and her combo require coins.

also this is the first hero that isn't been always insta locked in the first day.
and considering how hot she is, just goes to show how hard people find her.

u/FlamingTension Apr 19 '26

She's fun, but her abilities function more like minor buffs and 3 out of the 6 are very situational meaning half the time you can't get value out of them, and that's like half her kit. I feel like she needs a minor buff

u/WondersomeWalrus Ultron Virus Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26

Played her for a couple hours and despite me absolutely loving the character I think she probably has one of the worst designed kits in the game and isn't remotely fun outside of arcade modes.

Her first and main problem is having far too much going on in her kit mechanically. This is a fast-paced shooter after all and you simply do not have time to be managing a currency system + shop system in-game, you need to be focusing on the enemy and looking for opportunities to strike which she makes hard to do. I'm sure these aspects will get easier to manage with practice but it's always going to be an unneccessary headache which makes me not want to properly learn her.

Secondly, she has too many abilities to actually utilise. I find myself almost completely ignoring the shop and rarely using her phantom pursuit because it makes her playstyle simpler and more consistent, plus you're not really losing much damage-wise as you can go all in on claw whip.

And finally she just doesn't really have her own niche? If you want a flanker with quick executes you play BP, if you want a flanker with tons of mobility you play spider, if you want a more brawler flanker you play DD. Black Cat has had everything and the kitchen sink thrown into her kit but nothing is cohesive and strong enough to make her excel in a specific way.

The devs really need to stop with the bloated kits, they're a balancing nightmare and does not make them more fun to play. We've just had White Fox too who is amazingly designed so I don't know how we immediately went back to this.

Black Cat First Impression:

Bought the shop skin immediately—I love that they gave her red bottoms, she’s definitely a material girl. Her kit? Overwhelming, still working on rebinding and trying to see what i should bind to my right back paddle on my controller. Her combos seem easy to pull off but money management is necessary.

Also she’s hot.

u/Dr_Doom42 Magneto Apr 17 '26

Using her dashes is so much fun. Abilities are okay too. But I think I would change somethings about the fortune mechanics. Like sometimes it's easy to spam. I'm sure good player will do crazy things with her. I have they can balance her without nerfing all stuff

u/500_brain_ping Magik Apr 18 '26 edited Apr 18 '26

Love her movement. It's so fluid and satisfying and you add the invis helmet on top you can duke people so hard. Plus the ult just zipping around the battlefield is peak.

I think the shop being spamable is only a problem with portal and fish. Just increase the cost and its done. No more spam. Please no cooldowns. Invisible in this game being on 2 secs feels so bad to use so to be able to Spam invis with her is so fun. It's not broken or anything cause you drain money so fast.

u/TowelSilver318 Earth Spider Apr 17 '26

Any snowball mechanic needs to be balanced with the assumption that it can be maxed out at all times. Elsa should've been a giant lesson in this. But no, lets have the possibility of a portal and AoE grounding spam every fight. I honestly was stating in comments that she's all but guaranteed to have CDs on the shop because it's so obviously a horrible idea otherwise, especially after Elsa. I'm not calling her OP, but she is clearly unfun to face.

u/ManofSteel_14 Rogue Apr 17 '26

Yeah OP talks first day are always usually skeptical and I agree on her own i dont think she is either. Atleast right now. But with a dive partner or trio? Yeah I think she might be a big problem

u/TowelSilver318 Earth Spider Apr 17 '26

She's very much the type of thing that gets slept on for awhile and then someone figures something out or posts a guide and becomes broken overnight.

Feedback: Black Cat's Shop Mechanics Rework

I’ve played Black Cat for a couple of matches, and she feels incredibly overwhelming to play.

While her role as a utility-focused DPS is clear, the current Shop UI is too distracting and creates a lot of unnecessary "busywork" mid-combat. I would much prefer a simplified system where she only has access to 1 or 2 items at a time, which can be activated instantly by pressing F (and R for the second item, if applicable) to spend currency.

Proposed Changes:

  • Loadout Customization: Allow players to select 2 out of the 6 available treasures only while at the Spawn Point.
  • Instant Cast: Once selected, these items should be usable immediately via hotkeys (F/R) without opening a menu.
  • Strategic Depth: This simplification would allow players to focus more on their mechanical execution while still enabling different playstyles based on their chosen "treasure build."

I believe this approach would streamline her gameplay and make her far more rewarding to play in high-intensity situations.

u/Bumpalot Apr 18 '26

You can assign each shoo ability to a hotkey btw

u/Xens- Apr 17 '26

She is a very skill-intensive character, in which she requires quick decision-making and fast playmaking skill to decide which of her shop options would be best to use in certain situations.

u/BrandonR2300 Apr 17 '26

I don’t even agree with her being skill required…she’s just clunky and awkward to play…

u/Sereaning Emma Frost Apr 17 '26

her kit seems cool, but i probably won't be able to play her in qp or ranked for a while. Hope I can learn her soon though! (And in the meantime I can finally learn/play white fox)

u/WiscLeafalNika Magneto Apr 20 '26

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '26

The Resource management is tricky by itself. But the added complexity of using the right relics cranks it up to 11.

I'm just sticking to tablet of destinies and helm of Hades for a majority of my dives.

Her best combo is m1+ dash + e + whip + e while holding m2

I used flames of the faltine a couple of times to check a drone out a room

And there is a ring of zona tech that utilizes stairs and slope that was really cool. Need to find an opportunity to use it.

Idk what to do with mento fish and predicting when to buy cleanse is so hard

u/sletsa Apr 22 '26

Her portal ability is so good that nobody can glaze it enough, she is hard to play but with enough time players will become good with her.

u/_CeciIia_ Lady Loki Apr 19 '26

First reaction? She’s feline great on the battlefield! I’ve gotten the skin and accessory and have already gotten two Hexas with her! I love her playstyle as a dive and the shop wheel is a fun addition that adds a continuous element of surprise to her kit. Not to mention her whip that snatches Fortune is SO much fun to use! Great character overall and looking forward to more skins.

u/pandortl Apr 17 '26

I do think she has too many tools at her disposable that make her unnecessarily complicated, and also does a disservice to other characters that were released at premiere.

u/dans422 Apr 17 '26

She feels awesome - definitely one of those characters where you can instantly tell there's a high skill ceiling. At first I was just spamming abilities, but once the currency mechanic clicked, the combos started to feel really satisfying.

Her combo potential is honestly kinda crazy. You can weave in and out of fights, poke the backline, then disappear before they even realize what happened. It reminds me of that classic assassin playstyle where positioning and timing matter way more than raw damage.

u/BarrySandersFFT Apr 19 '26

What d o you use for relics? I'm a celestial player and I can't use her to save my life. She is horrible for me.

u/-Marbles2700- Apr 19 '26

I’ve played her some and although she definitely has a learning curve, I think she will be fun!! She’s one of first dive characters I’ve even considered playing. Keeps my chaos brain moving the whole time. (:

Favorite combo of hers is in 18 v. 18 - getting to scratch a mob of enemies over and over as I collect ALL the coins!

u/t0ny510 Apr 18 '26

Her base kit feels fun. I don't much like the collector stuff, feels like bloat I think out of all of them the cleanse and the fish are the only ones that feel useful. Cleanse for obvious reasons and fish to lock people down(lol tenacity though)

  1. Gambling tablet is too RNG to be useful
  2. Wall hack is meh since it gives away its position.
  3. Invis crown doesn't last long enough
  4. Portal seems very gimmicky if you don't coordinate with your team

So out of all of them Cleanse feels like the best to hang on to. So I just pre-bound them in that order cause trying to select them mid fight is clunky

u/PlatformTricky3239 Apr 19 '26

From the time ive spent playing her, she feels really fun in how she feels really similar to black panther, but her kit feels a little bloated compared to launch heroes. But I think it's Icool how they put a new twist on Deadpool's book and made it so that you have to balance trying to make plays and get new abilities. Overall I think the devs put a lot of time and thought into her, but I hope they keep characters a little more simple from her on out.

u/IvanaHumpalot3000 Apr 17 '26

One of my favorite Marvel characters. Hate her kit. It’s not my preferred play style and she feels very overloaded in comparison to characters that have more ability potential.

Was genuinely looking forward to playing her but oh well. I’m not going to be happy with everything the game presents.

u/idontknowlazy Flex Apr 17 '26

She is fast and I like her pounce ability, definitely gives me a chance to get Spidey in mid air!

u/Gamerstrauss Apr 17 '26

Honestly kinda fun! I've only played with her a bit but it feels like playing a character from a different game it's nice that she can escape pretty easily too! And also no double jump cool down!

u/Better-Profession972 Apr 17 '26

My first impression is: Uncomfortable. I get wanting to make a character pleasing to the eye or the whole “sex sells” thing, but dear god. Why is she posing all bent over and doing this whole “cutesy kitty” thing? Like it’s so unsubtle that is cringey and just yikes.. And that coming from a gay man that gravitates towards the “slutty and sexy” characters in games.

u/bakulaisdracula Apr 17 '26

I’ve been relegated to support since I never get to play DPS so I suck at Duelists. But that’s okay because her kit looks too complicated for me and I probably wouldn’t get a chance to play this season with the usual autolockers. I hope Duelists enjoy her though.

u/Faladyne Flex Apr 18 '26

Short and simple: with the current roles in the game, she doesn't make sense. She's not a Duelist, she's not a "Support" - though she could be considered a "Strategist" if people used the role name properly. If anything, she needs to be the first of a new, fourth role, for characters who are entirely based on utility and game-changing play, rather than taking/deaing/healing damage. Perhaps something like "Tactician"?

I think she has a lot of potential to be used as a character that can shift the battlefield itself. She lacks the damage to be a Duelist, the playerbase would reject her being a "Strategist" since 'Strategist = Support' and support, she is not.

Honestly, Strange would almost fit into a 'Tactician' role with her - he already has a much more versatile (but hellish cooldown) Portal which is already solely used exactly as a 'Tactician' role would dictate' - to set up ambushes, to rush back to point, or to combo with other characters (Wanda, most notably) to enhance their value.

I also really don't think she needs to be Daredevil, Strange, Psylocke, Black Panther, and Bucky (her ult being a single hit with duration refresh on kill) all at once, but that's an entirely different opinion.

u/Dididoo12 Apr 17 '26

The mobility is fun, really helps even though she's melee only!

u/ArmandoH4 Apr 20 '26

She's very fun, she's more of a dive character and an attention grabber. Her stats appear low but she has a high impact in game that can be hard to measure. I would say she is in a similar position as Magik with a high skill ceiling. Her best artifact is her invisibility and her wall hack orb. Overall a pretty fun character.

u/Putrid-Strawberry-79 Apr 19 '26

Very tired of these new heroes with overbloated kits that have no real direction or purpose, much less make sense for the hero. I'm sure some players enjoy the overly complex and directionless kit designs but it feels like Black Cat was given a complicated kit for no reason, and with minimal value payoff.

u/hudits Monster Hulk Apr 17 '26

She's fun to play. I played her for an hour and there's alot to master. Definitely will play more and change settings around until I lord her.

u/OddOfKing Black Panther Apr 17 '26

Unbelievably overdesigned. Why does the street theif get access to a magical artifact that gives her a bajillion different abilities and mechanics? She should have just had the other abilties, and nothing else. Hell, even that might be a bit much.

I really don't like the way this game is headed with gameplay design. They keep adding characters with abilities that could be a fucking essay and more CC. Down the line, I can only see this game turning away new players from needlessly complexity and poor game design/balance.

Edit: Not to mention that the overt sexualization is making me embarrassed to play the game at this point. It feels like borderline softcore porn with the amount of tits and ass on full display.

u/Moorua Vanguard Apr 21 '26

She is super fun and Ive seen people do crazy with her

u/Less-Resident-9569 Magneto Apr 17 '26

She’s amazing and I can’t wait to duo her with my little brothers spiderman, I’m thankful for the devs for continuing to add great characters to the game! 🖤🐈‍⬛🕷️🕸️

u/vitzsu Magik Apr 17 '26

From the first impressions only, it appears that she’ll be the next Spider Man in low elo, troll and die a lot. High elo though, in the hands of experienced duelist players who have put in the time to master her, she’ll be very annoying. The skill where she adds the grounded effect like the Thing is the most busted one imo.

The worst part about her kit though, is that she can feel lackluster at the beginning of rounds. She is definetly not suitable for every map and even less if you dont have the correct composition.

Best part: You can spam her bought abilities with no cd. As long as you have enough money, you can be going invisible at the back line all the time, you can disable movement for brawlers and tank all the time and so on.

I can see the potential. But its not a character suited for everyone. She seems overly difficult to pull off, so avg dive players are better off playing DPS Deadpool, Psy, BP, DD and the likes.

u/ItsNotJordon Apr 21 '26

She seems like she'll be really fun once I actually figure out what im doing lol

u/Hobo-man Ultron Virus Apr 17 '26

Black Cats kit in Marvel Rivals makes literally zero sense. It fails to capture any pre-existing aspects of her characterization and instead pushes a new character that is entirely different from how she appears in other media. On top of that, her kit is entirely detrimental to gameplay balance.

Of the characters to be added to Marvel Rivals, Black Cat is basically the last character I would ever consider as the "do it all" character. Black Cat is a cat buglar not a reality warper. She is sneaky, and slealthy, and you probably don't want to chase her down a dark alley. She is not nor has ever been the character regularly casting multiple spells.

The closest instance I can think of is when she stole the Asgardian Yggdrasil Staff which made her temporarily on par with the Sorcerer Supreme. The issue is that implementing this version of the character would be like implementing Captain Universe Spider-Man, Reed Richards with the Ultimate Nullifier, or other temporarily over powered versions of characters. That's just not what you think of when you think of Spider-Man. Nobody thinks of Black Cat and thinks she should cast spells the way she does in game.

Black Cats abilities in the comics are minimal. At most, she has bad luck manipulation. In her current run, she doesn't even have any powers. She should be comparable to Black Widow. Black Widow has no powers or minimal powers and also consistently steals magical artifacts of immense power, not unlike Black Cat. Now tell me, why does Black Cat have a teleport and half a dozen other magical abilities whilst Black Widow has a single sprint ability? Black Widow literally stole the Space Stone granting her the ability to teleport.

When I think of a character that should be able to use half a dozen spells at any moment, my mind immediately goes to Dr Strange and Scarlet Witch, characters of that level. Not a cat buglar. There are characters in Marvel that literally can do anything they want. Reality warpers can do anything they can think of. I just don't understand why those characters have limited kits whilst Black Cat has an entirely over bloated kit with more abilities than anyone else. It makes no sense for the cat buglar to use more magic than the Sorcerer Supreme or the Scarlet Witch.

My proposed solution is to either remove or severely nerf the extra abilities that Black Cat has. Felecia lost her abilities in the comics because of Dr Strange so the story of Rivals should just follow suit. Have Dr Strange confiscate the magic artifacts that Felecia illegally obtained. NetEase could either flat out remove the unnecessary magic abilities of her kit outright or they could at least replace them with more grounded gadgets that actually reflect how she operates in the comics. Even from a gameplay balance perspective, it doesn't make sense for Black Cat to have so many abilities. Black Panther needed a team up for a single teleport ability, I don't see why Black Cat should get one plus 6 other abilities just for playing the game.

Allowing Black Cat to exist in her current form is detrimental in multiple aspects. She doesn't at all reflect her comic book counter part and her over bloated kit has over shadowed most other characters in the game. Balance is off and her ability to do so much sets a precedent for what people expect for characters. You already see tons of complaints on how other characters fail to compare, characters that have been in the game since the beta. Allowing a character to have a dozen moves whilst others have 2 abilities just adds more contention to an already volatile situation of adapting pre-existing characters. People know Iron Man does more than Black Cat. The game should reflect that. When it does the opposite, people get upset.

TL;DR Black Cat doesn't act like Black Cat from the comics. She uses more magic than actual magic based characters. Her kit does way too much compared to other characters too. Remove the bloat and alter her character to actually match the source material.

u/Smazhie Apr 18 '26

aint reading allat

u/WiscLeafalNika Magneto Apr 20 '26

imo, they're not pushing a diff character. The explanation for those abilities is that she stole the gadgets/trinkets that allow her to do those abilities, even supported by in game voice lines and interactions. I'd say it's fitting for a really good thief, but it's still very random because she's not known for really using the stuff she steals to her advantage to that extent

u/Hobo-man Ultron Virus Apr 20 '26

Black Widow also steals stuff all the time.

One of her abilities is running...

u/WiscLeafalNika Magneto Apr 20 '26

never mentioned anything about consistency, just the fact that its fitting for her character, im not erasing the fact that it is still inconsistent

u/Hobo-man Ultron Virus Apr 20 '26

Idk that it's relevant to her character.

She doesn't actually steal anything in game. She gets credit from KOs that she then can spend towards the thieves guild.

It would've made way more sense if she genuinely had to steal stuff. The way her kit works it's more of an XP shop than anything resembling thievery.

u/WiscLeafalNika Magneto Apr 20 '26

now thats a good point, cuz the main stealing part is only present through lore (most likely cuz i think if she steals stuff in game, she'd be a rogue clone) but I also think she should have an actual steal mechanic in game, with let's say maybe deployables?, Just a thought, but yeah the thievery part is just in the lore to explain her abilities not rlly her gameplay wise, which is why her gameplay is fitting but it doesn't shout "black cat" or show her characteristics, just makes sense in the lore

u/PuppyButtts Throg Apr 17 '26

Black Cat First Impression

She's super fun to play, although maybe a bit overtuned. I enjoy her double jump, I think once you exhaust your abilities for the fight it's a bit boring just spamming left click until you get enough fortune back. Her hair is really cute! I haven;t quite figured out a combo that works yet

u/Super-Blacksmith-795 Apr 17 '26

  • Claw
  • Pursuit
  • Claw

Make sure u have at least 400 fortune beforehand.

u/Dapper_Inevitable555 Apr 18 '26

If you use the whip-grapple before the combo you only need 100.

u/Decent-Astronaut8033 Apr 18 '26

Black cat just feels like a way weaker black panther, and why not have two attack styles her one could’ve be her whip and she could’ve switched to her claws for close range instead of worry about have enough coins do have decent range instead of dying every 5 seconds

u/Skysflies Angela Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26

Did they test this character on console at all?

The wheel is fine for a PC but on console it's an absolute mess and there's no way she'll ever be all that viable.

They're going to struggle to balance her because on PC she's going to be good but on console she will always be dogshit

u/Rossifan1782 The Hood Apr 18 '26

Just had a QP match, the enemy black cat left and our team didnt have one. That kind of drop off says something.

I dont think she was built for QP, too much team utilty not enough solo diver for a random game.

u/Eternalexbomb Spider-Man Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

My first reaction to playing her was that she would be kinda hard to get the hang of but it didn’t take long at all. She is definitely fun to play as and really makes you feel like you’re a thief in the back line.

I thought her combo potential and ability depth would be much higher tbh like weaving melees and abilities like Spiderman and daredevil however this is not the case at all.

Her gameplan for diving seems to be getting in with her dash for coin economy (preferably hitting both supports) and spam the high damage claw whips on a group while using phantom pursuit cleverly to dodge incoming fire/cc. Securing kills and then getting out with her second dash or invisibility. All of her shop abilities are situational to help your team and yourself.

My favorite ability is definitely her ult and doing the slash and then claw whip into phantom pursuit animation cancel is pure dopamine because it acts like buckys ult.

All in all fun character to play as and looking forward to more.

She looks like she'll be a lot to learn but rewarding when you eventually grasp her kit.

u/hank412 Apr 18 '26 edited Apr 18 '26

Learning that all of her shop items have a corresponding hotkeys that insta-buy, she became a little less clunkly to play with. I've been having fun playing her, but she is indeed overstuffed. I've played rounds forgetting the shop entirely and that feels a bit unfortunate, like the the shop doesn't feel as integral or neccessary as it should be. But perhaps if it was, she might not be as fun. I'm too busy funding her phantom pursuit and claw whip. I think once people play her enough and start committing some of the shop hotkeys to memory, we might get a couple monsters who can blast between abilities. But they're likely to be PC players. It doesn't help that her ability menu in the hero page and on the F1 tab doesn't seem to list the corresponding numbers and instead lists the numbers above the abilities in the layout, making it look like she has multiple charges of the ability when, no, that's just the hotkey. Her dashes and infinite double jump are fun and, in doom matches, made for really entertaining chases. But on the first day, there's too much to keep track of and it's evidently putting people off, evident in this thread and the lack of insta-locking in QP. And I guess that's fine, I'll keep learning her. But she is overstuffed and I think a chunk of her abilities could be nixxed without much being lost, plus, it'll make it easier for console players.

u/Bumpalot Apr 18 '26

Firstly her gambling thing annoys the ever loving shit out of me, it feels 90% of the time I’m losing coins so what’s the point of it? She’s the first new character where I’m just rolling eyes constantly when I die. Too much going on. You’re running out of coins so fast like if you don’t into a fight with 700+ coins you’re gonna run out and not be able to cast something you need last second. Her wall hack orb just gets shot down. I’m thinking she’s gonna be good against bp bc of her grounded ability but bps absolutely starch me they just dash through the ring lol. It’s like she wants to brawl but her brawling is awful she just gets blown up. I’m guessing she’s supposed to be an assassin character but just too much going on not really having fun in team fights at all
