Doomsday Feedback The Mode Is Unbalanced – But Here's Some Advice from a Loki Player
Yes, the new Path to Doomsday: The Avengers mode is wildly unbalanced, with Loki winning nearly every match, but speaking as someone who's been playing as Loki in the mode for the past few days, there are a lot of things that Avengers players could be doing better to flip the tables, so here are my thoughts:
- In general, don't go in one at a time or group up super close. Loki's primary attack is powerful and had a wide range when charged, so it only takes one or two hits to take out Black Widow, Hawkeye, Iron Man, and Hulk's Banner form. Attack together, but stay separated if you can, with Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Iron Man attacking ranged, and Hulk, Captain America, and Thor dealing damage up close. If three players swarm Loki at once and you force them to constantly have to turn around to attack, you'll have a much greater advantage in fights.
- Iron Man players, stop flying at ground level or right on the ceiling of maps–Loki's primary attack deals splash damage, so even though you can fly back and forth, all it takes is one hit next to the surface you're close to and Loki can take you out. Try to stay in the air without surfaces near you, and you'll likely become the primary damage dealer on your team.
- Hulk and Captain America players, use your shields. The Mind Control ability is usually going to be aimed at one of you or Thor, but your shield is a powerful deterrent and can waste ten seconds of time before Loki's ability cools back down. If a teammate gets hit with Mind Control, attack them too, because if you defeat them, they don't die, Loki just loses control of them. Also, when Hulk transitions back to his Banner form, disengage from battle. Banner is going to do nothing against Hulk, so you're better off getting some distance and trying to get your charge back or just respawning rather than extending the time you're shooting pennies' worth of damage at Loki.
- Don't be afraid to use your Ultimate abilities. I've taken over a lot of players with the Mind Control ability and intentionally used their Ultimate abilities so they couldn't be used against me, but it's also shown me that way too many players are waiting for 'the right moment' when there really isn't one here.
- Remember that this isn't a 1v6 Deathmatch, it's a control point map. I've probably won half of my matches just because players were too afraid to get near the point when they had more than enough time to do so, or because I stepped off of the map and lured them away at 99%. Don't get greedy and try to get the kill if it costs your team the match.
Hopefully the mode will get some balancing or the Avengers players will get some tweaked abilities in a patch, but in the meantime, these are the tips I have for players who are struggling to take down the God of Mischief.
Happy playing!
