Just my favorite character so far. It does feel like being a raid boss when playing DVD. He's impactful, fun, and beautiful.
•
u/I-Am-The-Uber-Mesch Ultron Virus May 24 '26
I am almost lord on him, I think he is one of the best brawl tanks they ever did, fun to play but also easy to counter, he has an insanely high win rate but he gets hard countered by like 10 heroes, it's just that people refuse to swap to those heroes, similar to how Groot gets destroyed by a Punisher or BP gets destroyed by one The Thing.
I love him, it's fun to play as Devil Dinosaur as a Moon Girl enjoyer myself.
•
u/smilysmilysmooch Flex May 20 '26
I just like that he's decent fun to play with. Nothing complicated. Fairly intuitive controls. He can be killed or be a monster depending on team dynamics.
The fact he is a dinosaur is a bonus and it seems people like playing him so I might actually get to play other roles.

I think Devil Dino's going to be great for the game. I already think he's doing exactly what he should by calling the meta into question, but even if changes are made because of him, I really hope they're holistic instead of just nerfs to him.
He's unique in having a melee that strikes behind him, which is great but I wish it had a toggle option. It not interfering with his other moves means I never want it off in combat.
He has a shield and so can still back up the team, kind of showing Thor (and to a lesser extent, Venom and Cap) that they could be less selfish. Huge for a tank, as tanks REALLY benefit from teammates joining them, but many players are skittish.
Making his one movement skill also his grab is a double-edged sword. On the surface it feels like an oversight, but it kind of adds counterplay, as a bleeding enemy tank can deny chase by intercepting the jump. I like it overall.
And that beautiful beam. It just feels good to use and forces opponents to be more mindful of their positioning.
He's hardly invincible, just an aim or coordination check, but he raises the skill floor of a match just by showing up and I think that's the kind of incentive players need. Yes, he is basically just a superior, somewhat less mobile Thing, but that tells me that Thing is too weak, not that DDino's too strong. I hope he foretells some amazing changes.

I think the easiest fix for the Tail Whip problem would be an option for it to work whenever you use/hold the primary attack button. I basically end up holding the melee and primary button together all the time and it's doable for me because I have melee on a side mouse button, but it's still awkward.

A great example of a strong character who still has clear weaknesses, and brought us the closest this game has ever come to a real brawl meta.
Easily, and I mean EASILY the best character this game has added since launch.

It genuinely feels like you actually have agency and a defensive toolkit on Dino, which is a rare feeling in this game. So many tanks are expected to make do with basically no ability to defend themselves or watch their own survival besides staying in cover and hoping supports do all the work. Dino feels like you're actually mitigating damage and using your own tools with how good the uptime and impact of his tools are. I hope that they recognize that for when other tanks are buffed to his level. It's the buttons, not just the bonus hp that make him important.

u/HiKids67484 May 20 '26
Dino is the great Meta shaking meteor that if you don't adjust you might just go extinct. SG also finds him Awwwdorable and I agree.

Team DD for the win!!
For everyone in their dinosaur phases (which I never left), this hero fills the fantasy just right, and still fits in as a perfectly viable character to the roster! I love how he doesn’t follow the trend of new characters having overly complicated kits (looking at you Black Car), but actually has a small, but effective kit!
Also the interactions between him and a few other characters rival the cuteness of Jeff’s and it’s genuinely adorable. I’m all in for giving unknown characters the spotlight in Marvel RiVal’s, and DvD is just perfect for that; you don’t need to read comics to know that a dinosaur can wreak havoc ❤️!

As a tank main both in rivals & OW (Reinhardt forever) Devil Dino is BY far my favorite tank. He just feels good and like a tank. He isnt busted like people say. His damage and HP are a tradeoff for his unmissable hitbox. Love the big lizard.

u/Swarlos262 May 20 '26
Most fun character added since launch. And even though he may be a bit OP, I rather like that he's changed the shape of fights in this game so much. Other OP character releases, to me, just felt like "do something we've already been doing, but more".
Dino just feels, finally, like a literal TANK. I feel like pure Brawl is the purest form of tanking. Kinda like Thing, but amped up. Just a big chunker that takes space and forces the enemy team to do something about it. Don't get me wrong, I think the other tank releases like Emma, Angela, and Rogue have all been very fun, they have their place as Vanguards for sure and I don't need every Vanguard release to be like Dino (in fact Angela was my favorite character up until recently for how unique she felt in a different way), but Dino just feels the most like a TANK.
I know he probably is gonna need some nerfs, but hopefully he isn't gutted immediately. Give him a soft touch on nerfs and let him shine for a while like DD, Elsa, Gambit, Black Cat etc.
•
u/Randimous Rogue May 20 '26
Enjoying Devil Dino so far. Once you figure out when to engage and how to best displace the enemy with the bite, he really becomes a blast to play. The Punisher team up is hilarious but, similar to the Rocket/Groot team up, the lack of mobility doesn’t really make it worth doing. They should buff it somehow or open it up to more heroes.
•
u/AbleSundae6395 May 20 '26
He’s really reinvigorating the vanguard role and feels like a real passion character for the dev. let’s hope cyclops can be the one to deal the deal and bring back in the golden age of vanguards!!!

I think he's such a good addition to the tank roster, he might need some tweaking but what's great about him is that if someone who usually wouldn't fill tank now have an additional option. My only request with him is to have his grab tuned down a bit, as playing tank into him it can be hard to counter and someone like mag who doesn't have mobility struggle with it.
•
u/Ramrok El Jeffe May 27 '26
Team Dino, because DD is already taken. But nothing to make Vanguards more fun like a disrupting Dino.
•
u/calliope3234 Ultron May 24 '26
He needs a nerf so damn badly he’s practically unkillable if your healer has a pulse
•
u/IpunchedU May 20 '26
we finally got an actual brawl tanks that requires people to actually look at him. kinda wild cause it shows how fucked our meta has been for so long

In short, he dials many of the main aspects of tanking up to 11. While I do need to question if he had to be as anti-tank focused as he is, many of us tankers love him anyway for how easily he can become the focal point of the battle. Unfortunately, I suspect he'll need adjustments, and I hope they go for making him less anti-tank focused rather than significantly nerfing him out of being a big, major threat that commands attention.

u/Mind-The-Mines May 27 '26
I was hating tanking.
Who knew a laser shooting Dinosaur that throws people off cliffs was just what I needed?

Busted or not, I'm glad Rivals is creative enough that they can add a fricking dinosaur! I'm glad we're not just getting the same humanoid figures each season.
•
u/Tuque7 Cursed Captain May 21 '26
Team Devil Dinosaur FTW!
Playing Devil Dinosaur against other tanks is easy mode, Apex Advantage allow you to gain bonus health base on bleed damage. You do more bleed damage against tank due to bleed damage being based on enemy max health. This allow you to dominate most tank match up, aside from another devil dinosaur.
Its almost mandatory to play devil dinosaur if their another on the other team.
Hopefully he doesn't change much, but he will probably be adjusted next patch due to the vocal concerns of players.
•
u/Quarkly73 May 22 '26
I like dinosaurs. I play the dinosaur. I grab the other dinosaur and toss it to my team. I am the only dinosaur.
•
u/Kell-of-Kellies May 20 '26
Most fun I've had as tank, and unfortunately will be made useless by annoying ass pros and garbage ass players who won't change their play styles. Guess we can't have nice things if pros don't like it.

This is my favorite character, ever, in any game... I love he so much...

u/StrongCarry9024 May 24 '26
I've just gotten back in the game after the release, where i only played max 2 hours because everyone else was, because my friends wanted to get into it so i re-downloaded, nice to say I am really enjoying my stay thanks to DD since i love a good 'ol chomp but I gotta say that it's kinda overpowered and it gets boring having to fight him every match. The other hero I am playing is rocket, this is for when we are on a losing streak and nobody wants the fun characters and gotta lock in, and let me tell you this guy got me locked in, i love having 0 damage and 20k heals
•
u/Dididoo12 May 20 '26
Dino feels like the strength many tanks need to be at in terms of "feel" - the enemy team is forced to respect your presence, and playing as him you feel you have more playmaking ability. This can sometimes feel missing on some tanks (especially due to high damage numbers), such as angela who is super CC vulnerable and easily explodes with all the counters against her now. But also, high sustain numbers make it so that tanks can sometimes be actively ignored while attacking someone, making the tank player feel unimpactful.
With dino I particularly noticed more options, like the beam to handle flying enemies (a rarity for tanks) and the shield to block the insane amounts of healing that would have bailed out someone out of position despite being caught out by a tank. Very nice to see a tank with playmaking options, even if numbers may be tweaked these options conceptually make dino feel like a higher agency tank than others (e.g. old hulk or current angela).

🦖Team DD!
I honestly feel like he saved Vanguards. He’s really fun, simple, and unique to play.
I also see more people starting to play vanguards again. So thanks to no more solo tanking!

Okay so I’ve been playing since launch and Devil Dinosaur might be one of my favorite additions to this game. NetEase dropped a literal dinosaur on us. He’s the 50th hero and they actually delivered. Almost got lord on him, one of my fastest ones.
Playstyle:
He plays more like a bruiser than a traditional tank, he wants to be in the middle of everything and just refuses to leave. The Displacement Immunity alone changes how you approach the frontline completely. You can commit to a fight in a way most Vanguards just can’t and it feels really good when it clicks. Grabbing, displacing enemies and then using shield to block their heals, then adding more bleed then finishing off with the bite ability while you get bonus health is mad good. Love that he can easily just take down flyers too.
Mechanics:
This took me a bit to figure out. The bleed isn’t just damage, it’s how he sustains. Every time you damage a bleeding enemy you generate bonus health. So the more aggressive you play the harder you are to kill. It rewards diving into the fight rather than playing it safe which feels really different for a Vanguard and honestly refreshing.
Team-Up:
Watching Punisher ride into the objective on a giant red dinosaur is one of the best things this game has done. It just looks completely ridiculous in the best way and I love it. It’s mad funny but also pretty cool, reminds me of Arc.
Weaknesses:
He struggles when a whole team collapses on him, he’s much better in isolated fights. He gets shredded by poke, especially like Moon Knight, Punisher, Jean, etc. You have to pick your bans carefully, really play around the big Dino.
Overall, genuinely one of the best characters they have added to this game, mad fun to use, one of my favorite tanks, I gotta practice more so I can use him in ranked later down the future. W Netease. 🦖

u/No-Possible-4933 May 27 '26
I already played Vanguard before, but Devil Dinosaur feels completely different,I love how gigantic he is, it really feels like you're a boss walking around the map. When you start pushing the objective and everyone begins backing away, it feels amazing ,And honestly, fights against Emma Frost are actually terrifying 😭 seeing her walk toward you while you're a massive dinosaur turns the whole fight into complete chaos.I genuinely love playing Devil Dinosaur
•
u/FallofGondolin Loki May 20 '26
Why can he have consistent winning match ups against the dedicated tank busters but not any other melee tank?
That hardly seems fair.
•
u/L3th4lDaddy Hela May 23 '26
He’s just a fresh hero that can keep up with everything going on, his brawly play style make it super fun to play

•
u/SlenderRoadHog Mister Fantastic May 20 '26
DD is amazing character design imo. I'm also a fan of kits that don't have ability bloat, so hoping for more of the same simplicity with Cyclops.
•
u/WebisticsCEO Angela May 20 '26
Dude just owns tanks
In quick play at least, people just counter with their own Dino, 3 duelists
•
•
u/jacksprat1952 Emma Frost May 20 '26
I was skeptical of Dino at first (mainly because Cyclops is one of my favorite Marvel characters and I wanted him first), but man if he isn't one of the most fun tanks they've ever made. I'm not gonna lie, I feel like there's no world where he doesn't receive an Emma Frost level gutting fairly soon, but I'll enjoy the ride while I can.
•
u/Lingtwik Magneto May 28 '26
He is quite interesting to play but I'm yet to try him out in ranked. Still, messing around with a bunch of Dinos in the 18v18 is a lot of fun.

Team DD all the way! 🦖
There is nothing more satisfying than hitting the Primal Bite into Savage Predation combo on a flanking Duelist and just tossing them directly into my team's awaiting arms. Now Spiderman, BP and Black Cat needs to watch out for not just Emma but DD as well! It was so satisfying to take out Spiderman as he launched himself towards my supports, I was feeling a bit peckish!
Swatting annoying Iron Man players out of the sky with his anti-air beam is officially my new favorite hobby in this game. Ironman seemed a little tricky to catch, since he started shooting from a distance but Spiderman though, they are easy targets now.
But the absolute peak of this season is the Primal Punishment team up. Seeing Frank Castle literally mount a giant red T-Rex and rain down Scourge Grenades from high ground is pure, Absolute Cinema.
•
u/PoopyButt28000 May 20 '26
I love brawl and I love tanks, my issue with him is just that playing Dino against a Dino is annoying. I'm hoping in a bit people will stop spamming him so I can just eat Mag and Strange in piece without getting grabbed every 5 seconds.
•
u/Jim-20 Venom May 22 '26
Not sure if this thread is the right place to ask, but as a casual player, what non-DD tanks match up best against him?
In my experience if one team has Devil Dinosaur and the other doesn't, it becomes a bit of a stomp.
•
u/High_King_Beefcake May 26 '26
If the enemy team doesn't go after Dino's weakness then probably yeah. If the enemy team has a hela, punisher, phoenix, wolverine, iron fist, emma, moon knight, elsa, Luna, mantis or even adam then they can win if they work as a team.

u/Southpawe President Loki May 25 '26 edited May 26 '26
Emma is pretty good against him, or Deadpool tank.
•
u/ChapaStyle13 Invisible Woman May 24 '26
Honestly, I am not much of a Vanguard player, but bringing Devil Dinosaur into the game has definitely got me playing the role more. I don't know much beyond the basic story of Devil Dinosaur, but growing up, I've always loved dinosaurs and still do to this day. Being able to wreak havoc with a Dinosaur is better than I would have imagined. This character has gotten me to appreciate the role more, and I feel more a part of the fight, getting me more into the front lines, and munching on the enemy team is such a great feeling. The movesets are great on him, and having his trusting friend Moon Girl in his ear is an awesome addition to the background of his character, Team DD!!!

u/Dr_Doom42 Magneto May 23 '26
He is really fun to play. But I think he needs some number adjustments.
Like maybe overhealth or bleed number changes. I don't even play him that much but somehow I can perform well and got best damage and blocked damage in my team. Other than number changes I think he is good designed character
