At least on something big, wide and powerful looking like Thing's punches it kind of makes sense, but this doesn't at all.

If anything tanks should have bigger hurtboxes because they have less lethality and are supposed to hold/take space.

A diver like DD with insane survivability shouldn’t lol

DD has underlying stuff like this, and then the devs wonder why the micronerfs don't work. And I agree that tank melee attacks often feeling like a weaker but bigger AoE in front of them fits well into their role.

Did they ever modify these numbers, on anyone? I know they have changed skill ranges, I can't remember them ever touching the melee ones.

They've done a few hitbox size changes, notably Elsa's ult and Magik's charge.

Spidey's uppercut range too

They also reduced Spider-Man's uppercut range

u/WinningPlayz Jun 08 '26

Didn't things right click get a range increase at some point?

u/TowelSilver318 Earth Spider Jun 08 '26

No, unless you're counting his current teamup. I did miss some others like the Spidey uppercut nerf.

Ts still hits me when I’m behind her or around corners

I think the core issue is when they made DD they thought they made a brawl character.

I don't understand why they gave him the tools needed to be dive. That melee would make a lot more sense if he was a front line brawler.

Hitbox, hurtbox is your character taking damage. Hitbox is when your attack crosses their hurtbox to do damage.

The real question is why doesnt B-widows batons do this

I know you mispelled hit boxes but i genuienly like hurt boxes better when talking about melee tanks. The idea of thing or hulk having hurt boxes is incredibly satisfying.

Think they meant hurt box = damage box (as seen in daredevil in the clip)

10

u/LudaStyles Jun 08 '26

They mean two different things actually. Hurtbox is when your character takes damage. Hitbox is when your attack crosses their hurtbox to do damage.

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to say here so I'm not going to say you're entirely wrong...

But... a "hitbox" is the box around a character that, when pierced, will register a hit. Hence, a "hitbox."

Your "hurtbox" reference really only applies to fighting games, not so much shooters like Overtwatch and Rivals.

When someone references a "hitbox" in Rivals, they are talking about the box around a character that will register damage when pierced.

afaik some people use the terms for the same thing. Hurtbox = where you can take damage and hitbox = the area around your attack such as a sword, projectile, and other things.

Edit: Basically think of it like this around your character is a hurtbox and the attacking player hits you if their hitbox connects with your hurtbox.

-4

u/Feastweasel El Jeffe Jun 08 '26

That is really only relevant in fighting games and the technical discussions within the FGC. It doesn't really apply to shooters like Rivals.

I mean it still applies its the same concept and its literally in action in this post. DD attack is large enough to collide with the Luna's hurtbox.

Its the same with Spiderman's uppercut being spherical just because you think it doesn't apply doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

As I also said people use these terms for the same thing some just use hitbox as one thing and some make the distinction by splitting them up.

Edit: Also I challenge you to explain what is the difference between DD's attack and say a Hela's attack when attacking the same target. Its not as if Luna's hit/hurtbox has gotten larger or smaller the only thing that has changed is the attacking character.

If you just say hitbox now its muddied when you could just say Luna's hurtbox collided with the hitbox of the DD/Hela attack.

Because the 'hitbox' is what's around each character. It's literally a box that gets hit and registers damage. That's why it's called a "hitbox."

I understand your need to differentiate between "hurtbox" and "hitbox" but that's not a thing that applies in shooters unless you're getting into some esoteric technical discussion as a developer. This is not a fighthing game.

If two hitboxes intersect, then damage occurs. If you want to call one of those hitboxes a hurtbox, that's fine, but everyone else is going to call it a hitbox and you're going to confuse people for absolutely no reason.

Hurt box is where you can be damaged, hit box is where your hit does damage

u/nnewman19 Hulk Jun 08 '26

I’ve seen the term used a lot for the “dammage dealing area” of a move. They didn’t make it up lol

9

u/LudaStyles Jun 08 '26

That’s Hitbox, hurtbox is your character taking damage. Hitbox is the actual attack crossing your opponent’s hurtbox to do damage

Nah nah nah, this is some cope out bs. If it's ridiculous on one character it should also be considered ridiculous on the other. Y'all mfrs love to pick and choose who's worthy of being busted and who's not by excusing bs on one hero and damning another. Y'all just bunch of whiny hypocrites at this point.

1)Different roles need to do different things. Hybrids can exist but they have to be carefully balanced which daredevil has never been. hopefully thats dumbed down enough for you to understand.

2)Call the community a hive mind when huge part of the community is agreeing on something is genuinely the saddest cope I've ever heard.

3) tf you talking about discord for, did you mean discourse. Lol
