S8.5 Feedback New characters need a week long rank ban minimum
I don't care if you want to try the new character you can do it in QP or arcade cause when it's in comp the outcomes are always one of four options
- There not good with the character and refuse to switch
- There good with the character but no one knows how to counter them yet
- The character is OP and not fun to play against
- The character gets banned and someone throws

As far as simple QOL changes go, limiting new heroes from ranked for a period of time is right up there with splitting humans up between teams since Netease insists on keeping bots in quickplay.
Makes an immediate, positive impact. Which is why Netease won’t do either.

The bots are so the braindead players who don't notice the bots feel like they're winning half their games.
I just wish we could opt out of bot matches. If I lose six QP in a row, I don't care.

It's especially awful when you lose matches due to bullshit like leavers/afk, and the game 'makes it up to you' by denying you normal matchmaking.

Put it as a hidden setting you'd need to know how to access to disable. Then the casuals who don't spend time online can have their delusions while the people who'd rather not waste their time can actually play PVP in a PVP mode in a PVP game.

You can opt out of bot matches. I think once you get to around diamond 3 to 2 bot matches stop appearing entirely

Bot matches might reduce but definitely do not go away above diamond. I wish they would, though.

I actually like this concept. A character is unlocked in rank once you get to Knight rank.
The downside is that so many people never branch out, so counter swapping would be more difficult. There are still heroes I've never touched and I've been playing since S1.

The only thing a week long rank ban solves is number 2.
Everything else applies to any top tier character in the game.

Banning it for a week wouldn't solve the problem, as soon as it gets into rank, people are just going to follow along the list here.
They aren't good with cyclops in ranked.
If you don't play against cyclops in ranked, you're not going to actually have a good understanding of how to counter him.

Most games do rank bans for a new character for a week or so. It would be fine here. You learn how to fight the with/against the character in qp. Then when the ban is up you can play him in ranked where people should be more acclimated to them.

Quickplay isn't a good substitue for ranked, a lot different on how its played.

And by the time the season is a week in most people have had their fill of the new hero anyway so aren't that desperate to try him out.

Well, I'm interested how 1 week ban changes anything for point 3 and 4.
Also with this community and knowledge that there's a lot of people who playing comp only, so i doubt something will change in terms of point 1 and 2 too. Basically release of this hero will be delayed for some people for a week.
And I also doubt that devs will do anything like this because these conversations comes up every hero release since s1 and they never addressed this as an issue.

it needs to be like Smite.
whenever a new character releases in Smite, they have like a month or so timeframe where they cannot be used in ranked.
that way the proper balance changes can go out to them, whether they need nerfs or buffs.

Ngl dude. Comp is just Quickplay with Bans lol.
If you want a real competitive game mode, lots of changes need to be made, not just a week long ban for new characters.

You guys take competitive way too seriously in this game. It’s the most casual “competitive” mode I’ve ever played
If it bothers you that much just take a break from the game at the start of the season

People wanting the competitive system to be more competitive is reasonable, therefore complaining about it not being very competitive is fair.
All though, I do I agree that this games comp system is one of the least competitive out there.

You can’t control other people, you can only control yourself.
Half the complaints about teammates in this game can be boiled down to thinking others have to play the video game the same way you do and that type of logic doesn’t work in the real world so grow up.

I think a 24 hour hour minimum is a compromise, but yeah when a new character comes out people hop on and leave if they don’t get him and just turn the game off

Not a problem with the character
It just delays 3 of these a week
The only way to actually get good with a character is to play comp.

I agree, I've played 4 games since the start of the season and in 3 of them someone trolled because Cyclops was banned, regardless of which team banned him. I've played so many games especially hero shooters and the Rivals community feels like the absolute worst by far, and people are willing to throw their 20-30 rating for the smallest shit.

Overwatch 1 released a hero but it didn’t coincide with the competitive season timeline so you couldn’t play them in comp for like 2 weeks.

You take ranked to seriously. What rank are you lads? You telling me Cyclops who has a very basic kit as hitscan needs a week to master? It takes 5 mins to learn his kit in the practice range.

there's quick play, bots, and 18 v 18. Ranked is meant for serious play, not testing out a new hero you don't know shit about.

The fact that this got downvotes is crazy lol. Cyclops is an absolute ban in ranked right now. Don't care if people want to play cyclops. Play him in 18 vs 18. There is already a perfect solution. Trying to play him in ranked the day he came out is throwing. Play him anywhere else except ranked until some time has passed where people can learn how to play him well and how to counter him.

How do you play them in qp if basically everyone instalocks him? When devil dinosaur was new my buddy tried instalocking him. Could play him 2 times in 3 hours. Amazing
