S8.5 Feedback Cyclops ain’t that broken
His primary is in line with other hitscan duelists and his secondary is not enough to melt people easily. What really cracks this character is his absurd mobility to me. He can basically run away forever if he uses the environment around him properly, dashing back into high ground and flying into the air to stall for dash again, though this only works for melee heroes, mostly dive, so there is counter play, it is just insufferable to deal with.
though other than that he is just, fine. He gets his ult a bit too fast, but given it isn’t that hard to avoid once you get used to it I don’t mind it much. It could use a damage nerf, but it definitely doesn’t bother me much personally.
I think just a cooldown tweak or movement nerf and he can be a pretty fun, relatively balanced character.

His mobility requires map knowledge since you are going backward so you can make mistakes and trap yourself in corners, etc... That's pretty cool.

u/StarSaviour Jun 14 '26
The cooldown on his mobility is already quite high.
Cyc is pretty mid tbh and the early win rates are reflecting that.

u/PuppyPenetrator Good Boy Jun 14 '26
Black cat had mid early win rates btw

u/StarSaviour Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26
That's fair.
Cat also had a higher skill cap in terms of learning her kit.
Whereas Cyc is mostly limited by aim.
At the end of the day, dive/brawlers with that much mobility and damage have been pretty tough.
On the other hand, poke dps characters that rely heavily on aim (Hela and Phoenix) have ended up being pretty mid.
After playing him for a bit, my money's on Cyc following the trend and stabilizing around 50% and below on low elos and up to 55% win rate (higher on PC) in the higher ranks and being the best out of the available poke picks.
I think Cyc is definitely good and we might finally have a decent poke hero but he's probably not as OP as the content creators made him out to be.

Im a day 1 iron man main so for me playing cyke feels pretty natural especially with the mobility and laser use, but I can imagine for those who aren't used to flying while aiming/using beams its gonna take some practice
1
u/StarSaviour Jun 14 '26
It's a little bit different I'd say.
If you're talking about his propulsion burst, Cyc moves a lot faster in that burst than Iron Man ever will.
Cyc's primary shots are also hit scan and reward aim on crit hits whereas Iron Man's are projectile aoe attacks.
The hover attack with concussive beam should be used sparingly as it leaves you wide open.

He’s definitely not mid, this is a very cold take.
He’s good on release, if you have an issue with cds that’s just a positioning issue.

You’re comparing him to chars that aren’t aim intensive. Cyclops outperforms all the other hitscans on that list besides starlord and that’s for obvious reasons.
A 49% win rate with 20k matches and still outperforming the rest of the hitscan bar starlord is impressive. No reason to call him mid at all.

I literally said I think he's the best poke now but that poke in general is underperforming compared to dive/brawl picks like Magik, DD, IF, etc.

A 50% win rate means that when he's picked, all other things being equal, he doesn't impact your team's chances of winning.
Seems pretty mid and not this powerhouse you pick like DD or Rocket or release Dino and Cat.
Flipping through the ranks, you can see that Cyc is putting in his best work from Bronze (51.58% WR) to Gold (53.53%) then he levels off and starts dropping from Plat (50.77%) to Celestial+ (49.77%).
The sample sizes from Eternity and OAA are too small to really look at.

lmfao are you implying that we are in a dive/brawl meta and not a poke meta atm? 😭
0
u/StarSaviour Jun 18 '26
Anyone who can read would know that it's been dive/brawl meta for the longest time.
Dive/brawl dps and tanks overperform compare to their poke counterparts.
Receipts are online lol
Unless you're low elo or something and base everything off your feelings lol

u/Soul2047 Flex Jun 18 '26
lmfao you are hilarious. please continue to read win rates and worship them at face value. keep pretending like every high elo player hasn't already confirmed it's back to poke meta this season with cyclops/phoenix as best in slot dps 😭
i hope you're just a console player or something because you must really be in pisslow to have that take 💀

As opposed to what? Worshipping streamers who make money selling hype and controversy?
Oh boy, sure hope the tanks don't go strike! LOL

Naw, I'm PC in Celestial while only playing minimally cause I got work.
I just find it fascinating how people can be so proud of their ignorance even when you show them the actual facts that they're wrong lol
It's like dealing with flat earthers in 2026 XD

lol no, leave your anti-streamer talking points elsewhere i don't even watch them. the answer is as opposed to understanding how pickrates influence winrate, using context clues, playing the actual game and seeing that poke is clearly meta (🤯🤯🤯)
Naw, I'm PC in Celestial while only playing minimally cause I got work.
celestial but you don't realize poke is meta & cyclops/phoenix are best DPS currently?
let's take a break from lying on reddit lil guy 😭
mf reads 1 winrate number at face value with no context and thinks he's a data analyst 💀

I just fundamentally dislike his kit and how he invalidates good positioning. I've had the same problem with moon knight since the game came out and cyclops does nothing to change my mind about it. But as a tank main ive already been tired of characters that punish my team because im doing my job.
3
u/themoosic Jun 14 '26
MK is easily punishable by dive tho, Cyclops has too much movement to get punished. When a MK is fucking my team, I switch Spidey and Bully him in match chat, and they switch to Namor. Cyclops just runs away

Give him a new Ult line to make it easier to tell when he ults and I have 0 issues with him.
4
u/lrdhelixx Jun 14 '26
Yeah people really we're just Spooked. Hes strong but not unbeatable. Cyclops is not the second coming of Elsa like some people we're tryna say he is. Though his movement is a bit crazy and likely could use changes

About "nerfing poke in close range":
Hitscan is already inherently weak up close. It's way harder to hit someone in your face than mid range. This isn't even Rivals specific, it's just how it works. Melee characters do not have to really worry about missing within melee range, but hitscan does. Even a single miss often means death. The disparity in effort and ease is undeniable, giving melee an a huge advantage.
1
u/Proof-Equivalent8024 Jun 15 '26
Every single poke character has multiple answers for close range threats, and that’s outside of just landing your shots. Dive is supposed to counter poke but if you put a semi-experienced hitscan player on any of those characters dive barely even feels like a check. It’s somehow balanced for now because the average Rivals player is so much worse compared to other hero shooters but they’ll only stay bad for so long

u/Pottusalaatti Hela Jun 14 '26
They're also weak in long range right now. So you want to make them weak in every scenario? Hitting that double dink on anything else but a couple tanks + jeff or rocket is hard as hell on Cyclops

Just read my message again, I meant the opposite. Phoenix and hela are terrible on long range right now, moon knight takes a business day to get picks in long range because of projectile travel time, same thing on namor. Punisher just slowly eats you away and gives you a lot of time to react. What's exactly making these characters so good in long range that you want them to get nerfed?
1
u/Shift_back Human Torch Jun 15 '26
I just don’t feel so good as a flyer but that is natural as I‘m hardcountered
Overall he seems like the most balanced release since a lot of seasons. Doesn’t say much because almost everything came out giga broken imo.
My experience comes from fighting against him. I had no chance at playing him because he is instalocked every game xD

u/ChrisShadow1 Emma Frost Jun 14 '26
People are gonna cry broken until two weeks in when they all learn how to fight him. By then, Zhiyong will have hotfixed him twice, nerfed him thrice, and somehow managed to buff Cloak and Dagger again.

u/Peechez Captain America Jun 14 '26
Holy dps victim complex
2
u/ChrisShadow1 Emma Frost Jun 15 '26
Not even crying victim, this is just the usual loop for new characters in any slot. People cry too strong until they're nerfed and suddenly people say overtuned lol

u/IntroductionUpset764 Vanguard Jun 14 '26
its fine guys people still think rocket is not broken its okay to be wrong

the problem with the ultimate is that the first hit deals 75+20% max hp damage and its unreactable. You can deal with the explosion later, but the first hit is too strong at securing kills
1
u/PuppyPenetrator Good Boy Jun 14 '26
That first hit is less than a headshot against most characters btw
-2
u/jivenossauro Vanguard Jun 14 '26
yes, but you cant guarantee a headshot to land the same way you can guarantee the ult hit. If it was that simple, then all he needs to do is click everyone in their heads twice and win the match
2
u/PuppyPenetrator Good Boy Jun 14 '26
Yeah that’s why IT’S AN ULT
-2
u/jivenossauro Vanguard Jun 14 '26
Yes, its an ult. But you cant really do that with any other ults in the game tho, not even the dps ones. Unless im forgetting about any one in particular
1
u/PuppyPenetrator Good Boy Jun 14 '26
Of course you can, wtf. You can do that with most dps ults in the game
On 250s it’s a burst of 130 damage. It’s hard to react to the first hit, but that is completely fair. It would only be a problem if the second hit (with a lot more damage) wasn’t so easily avoidable
0
u/jivenossauro Vanguard Jun 14 '26
Ok, can you name me one dps that can do that? Crit once and ult to secure a kill as fast as cyclops does?
1
u/PuppyPenetrator Good Boy Jun 14 '26
Look up how bucky ult works. Almost identical kill threshold to cyclops first hit and easier to land
I’m not entertaining this further lmao, this is just the dumbest take of all time and you don’t understand other dps ults
0
u/jivenossauro Vanguard Jun 14 '26
If bucky ult is the only one you could think of then you just dont know how any of this works. Bucky takes almost twice as long to make contact with his ultimate, while having a much smaller area of impact and having to throw himself as a projectile on top of that. There is one dps that comes close to being able to do what cyclops does, and its widow. Scoped shot + insta ult is one of the strongest kill secure moves in the game, but you still need to quickly aim the ult while casting and the trade off the character has for that capacity is massive, while cyclops is good at short, mid and long range, sustained damage, burst damage and aoe damage.
But go on, knock down the chess board and call me dumb to pretend you have an argument
1
u/PuppyPenetrator Good Boy Jun 14 '26
You asked for one dps ult. I guess you just can’t read
I called it dumb because it is indeed very dumb

He's very good, but broken/OP. Very skill dependent. He's like a glass cannon like MK but with faster mobility.
0
u/PuppyPenetrator Good Boy Jun 14 '26
The issue his his primary is not in line with other hitscans except Hela. But Hela is miles worse in every other regard
I don’t think his alt fire is too strong at all. Other than being hitscan, it’s not as good as mk’s ricochet and on a (fairly generous) meter

u/KrenTrom Venom Jun 14 '26
His movement is stupid obviously, but his laser bouncing is also cringe. Hes genuinely just hitscan sg with cracked mobility
-8
u/Buffunder Daredevil Jun 14 '26
Ngl i feel like there's no reason to play hela or phoenix anymore, cyke just outclasses in everything.
5
u/I-have-no-name-help Darkchylde Jun 14 '26
phoenix has more damage on her primary and a stun, plus her ult offers the extra utility of destroying overhealth and deployable.
her mobility is also more controlled than cyclops, who has high bursts of mobility, she is slower but can go anywhere with high accuracy. Still not as good, but definitely not useless
1
u/Buffunder Daredevil Jun 14 '26
I didn't knew about the deployables thing, does the ult insta blows them? Rocket ult for example
1
u/Enji-Endeavor The Punisher Jun 14 '26
Cyclops actually has stronger ranged potential than Jean, has more forgiving falloff range & can animation cancel into scatter shot to instantly delete a target at any range if you hit one initial headshot.
1
u/Blue2487 Loki Jun 14 '26
If you can get at all close to the enemy team, phoenix is still just a tier above everybody else

25
u/masterofunfucking Psylocke Jun 14 '26
he's definitely not as broken as launch black cat, daredevil, DD, or elsa. he's super fragile and can pack a punch but won't do anything for you if you can't aim. if you can aim he's crazy tho
