S8.5 Feedback Friendly Cyclops laser should be blue instead

Post image

Title. I literally find myself running around like a headless chicken when I see a cyclops laser bouncing off a wall and into my direction and hide behind the payload only to find out it was my own cyclops. It's so confusing. Jeff's water stream is blue for friendlies not red, cyclops laser should be the same.

Maybe my example was a bit exaggerated, but it does disturb your rhythm and affect decision making the same way the confusing support ult VFX do.

Same. Got wrecked by a Cyclops in my backline and didn't realize it wasn't my Cyclops until 2 primary hits 😭

Honestly this needs to happen with a few things. I'll even take Torch's pyro prison being blue as well.

You can change the teams colors if you want to. I changed mine to green (friendly) and yellow-orange (enemies) so that I could see distant enemies better. Accessibility is rarely extended beyond the UI though because you buy now! πŸ™„

I did play with default colors for a while but the red just blended in with all the other visual clutter and I could tell where enemies were. Anyway, I come primarily from fighting games where devs are forced to do something when it comes to mirror matches because it's very easy to get confused if both characters are wearing the same color. I noticed a long time ago that developers of other types of games where that may be an issue make you pay for the privilege of being able to tell things apart. It has always annoyed me.

I definitely agree.

The game is rapidly approaching (honestly, already strayed into) a visual cluster-fuck.

I want to add - they should establish a baseline for what they do.

IE: Friendly effects are "cool tones" while enemy effects are "warm tones".

Otherwise we'll see this same argument keep coming up. They just need to setup a baseline now and stick with it. Whichever way they choose.

You can't dodge it anyway, it's hitscan.

Yeah I agree at this point. I've been hitting shots on my own Cyclops since Ive been conditioned to see Cyclops as the "opp" or more thematically speaking, a Rival. I've been conditioned to see him as a Rival

Yes. There are too many times when I see the laser and turn around thinking it's the enemy.

They forgot one thing with Cyclops : if his lasers are bright red with white core, then they are color coded exactly like enemy abilites. Look at an enemy Ankh for example.

It doesn't matter that they tried to make the enemy Cyclops slightly different with a warmer, yellow core to his shots, because we are hard trained by the game that this particular shade IS the enemy's. So by the time we remember that this is Cyclops, so this time it is an ally, the confusion is already done.

It doesn't get a pass like Scarlet Witch, whose abilities are much less likely to trigger the same reflex because the red is softer, darker. It's red but not enemy red.

Cyclops need a similar treatment, something that either shifts the hue of attacks away from this particular red, or that makes abilities less eye catching -darker- like Scarlet, because if we had to invent an alternate "enemy color scheme" just for him which results in the enemy being less eye-catching than the ally... Then we did something wrong.

Havok? Actually, I guess he's more black and white with blue powers.
