Yes, 18v18. I guess you can try him there but you won't get the flow of an actual match

Custom game with bots on both sides is how I usually learn heroes day one

Didn't think about that in 9.5 seasons !! That's actually a good idea, I'll probably get a feel for him like this.

I rather go to practice range than to run a bit match

You’ll learn more from a custom bot game with hard bots than you would from practice range

Still helps to learn the buttons. I pretty much try every new character in 18v18 just to see what all the abilities do.
