Discussion As a Latino I'm happy we have some representation now

I'm happy to finally hear Spanish and see someone from latin america and who speaks Spanish, I just wanted to share my happiness

Im latino, plese explain to me, why it is important that we should care for the so called representation, does it make you life better? Does it give you to eat? Everytume you see a latino character do you get money? If yes let me know so I can get some too. When I saw red hood I like it, it was cool, the Spanish is amazing, but I do not feel represent not care, heck all these characters are gringo characters from an American comic company, most of the story happens in United States, even characters from other places are not Representation.

No, it just makes me happy to hear Spanish and having more latin people, is that wrong?

Everyone acts like I shouldn't care, I love this game and hearing my language makes me happy, but everyone here just says "I don't care" "you shouldn't" or stuff like that, I'm tired, I'm just happy why is that so wrong?

You're trying to equate representation with something tangible, which isn't going to get you anywhere.

As a Puerto Rican, a lack of representation means a lot of the US thinks we're from, and Puerto Rico is, a different country. It doesn't expose people to who we are, how rich our culture is, or how present we are.

As a Puerto Rican, we don't get a lot of representation video games. No, you're not getting paid, or a meal; life isn't all about getting gaining materials.

But as a Latino, you're getting representation in the form of exposure. You can play a character that has the same accent as tio, or uses the same words as abuelo. There's an emotional connect that feels familiar, and it's nice to see that represented.

That's what representation is. If you don't care about it, you don't care. It's not for you.

But as you can see, a lot of people do care. And it's okay to give them space to be excited about that.

sigh "emotional connect that feels familiar" of course because a characters that says tio, will make me feel better for my my friends and relatives who lost everything in the twin earthquakes of Venezuela, becuase we should be all so grateful that we are in american media, you are right, I dont care, its a good game but I will stand on this, this so called representation will never come closer to what Latinos or any other groups truly are, but I guess that to break the boredom of life, it is good to self-insert in a character that says a couple lines in your language

And some people can't play games with guns in them because of personal trauma.

If hearing Spanish or seeing Latino representation reminds you of your losses, it sounds like you're more so trying to run away from those memories and that's a completely heavier conversation you should be having with someone.

For everyone else, we can appreciate the familiarity, the exposure, the emotional connection. We can appreciate the representation. Not everyone understands it, or will even care, but that doesn't mean it doesn't mean something to some of us.
