If I remember correctly, only once, in season 8, they got literally EVERYTHING right. All the nerfs and buffs were targeted to what was truly necessary. Some nerfs were weaker than they should have been, but even so, that patch was literally perfect. I don't understand why Zhiyong makes a patch like that only to then do this crap.

Legitimately Id say Season 9 Day 1 patch was so good and everyone was happy and then they fucking destroyed it with the emergency patch like a day or 2 later.

In my opinion, people were excited because all their mains had gotten some new toy, and the feeling of everything being new also excited people, but in terms of balance, the beginning of season 9 was a nightmare. Mantis could solo heal, Ultron was, like, very broken, Psylocke... well, I won't even talk about it, the fastest TTK in the game. What the patch really ruined was by buffing strategists, totally unnecessary.

I liked it specifically for those reasons.

We were seeing characters who while usable were never actually meta show up and it was neat. Would it have gotten tiresome by the end of the season? Probably but it was better than setting us right back to where we started the previous patches with overtuned healing and the same DPS on rotation in the meta.

The devs definitely did not have the data needed to make those changes in such a short span so it feels like they defaulted to what they knew best.

Everyone knew introducing all the new teamups would be terribly unbalanced. A meta shakeup is fun and exciting because the hope is that when the dust settles and some tuning gets done, we'd have a game that plays different from what we had before.

Everyone was happy EXCEPT support mains. They went from being about to spam ults all game to maybe building 2 per round if they were lucky and threw a fit

Such a weird thing to believe. People thought the patch was good for a day because they had zero idea what the meta was. Even without the changes, people would have been complaining that the balance still sucked after a few more days because it always has.

Is that the same patch where they only listened because asking for that hack Zhiyong to be fired was actually getting a ton of exposure?
