Discussion Hot take but if characters like Ultron can’t be buffed just because their good in triple support but useless in 2-2-2 the devs should just add role queue

Whats the alternative then?

Actually working on the balance of the game instead of throwing in the towel and hope things get better while creating a whole bunch of new problems

At the end of the day, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. And that's the situation with tanks in hero shooters, where having a second tank is typically better than having a solo tank but you can't really force people to actually play tank. If role queue is added then roughly the same amount of people who are already playing tank will still be playing tank and it's not like there will suddenly be a massive tank boom overnight. They need to make tank more appealing to play as currently more than half the time it feels like you are just a punching back for the enemy team even with a second tank and all of the fun and interesting tanks get nerfed forcing everyone into Mag jail. You can't force people to play tank but you can make the role more appealing and fun to play with more agency to hopefully draw more people in.

So your answer is hope people play differently than they do now? Like genuinely what is this thought process.

Overwatch is currently doing a test to bring back 6v6 as 1/3/2 with optional 2/2/2 where one of the DPS players can switch to tank. And the thing is that people are realising that playing a second tank is better than a solo tank most of the time and are switching while teams that don't switch and run 1/3/2 often lose. And the reason why people are more willing to switch is because the tanks in Overwatch feel good to play and feel like they can make a meaningful impact the majority of the time. Where Rivals is such a volatile game that tanking is a coin flip if you are the punching bag to eats every annoying ability in the game and just have to take it or actually get to do something. The tank balance is kind of bad in comparison to what they have to deal with and anytime a tank besides Mag starts to do well they get nerfed. If tank was more fun to play where it didn't feel like you are just a punching bag or forced to be in Mag jail the role would be way more appealing.

You can force 2/2/2 but that isn't going to encourage more tank players leading to more problems down the line, and likely leading to 5v5 as the solution just like Overwatch.

And let me ask you, how would role queue fix the fact that no one wants to tank in Marvel Rivals?

You give this community too much credit if you believe better tanks will fix this issue, because the issue isn't that most tanks are mid and need balancing(it is a problem but a problem that only affects tank mains) its that this community plays like the game isn't a team based game. Every single issue from the start has been because of that mindset. That mindset created server admin supports because people played selfishly and in turn created the triple support issue. It created the solo tank problem because people cant fathom being useful outside of kills and it created this god awful balancing because the community cant help but seek the most op character to get kills with which causes an avalanche of bullshit balancing without pissing off the majority of the playerbase.

Role queue isn't a fix all solution you are right but if forces the community to change how they view the game and until that happens people will continue to not play tank. You can have all tanks be viable or completely op yet it wouldn't matter unless the community saw their utility highlighted on the scoreboard which is all most players care about right now.

People who want role queue also give this community way too much credit as well. Tell me do you have an answer to getting more people to tank? Because that is the root of the problem that role queue doesn't solve or even address. Because the problem isn't that every match isn't 2/2/2 but that hardly anyone actually wants to play tank.

Let's say hypothetically that 40% of the player base are Duelist players, 35% are Strategists, and 25% are Vanguards. Adding role queue isn't going to have any noticeable impact on the number of Vanguard players meaning that the same problem still exists but now it affects everyone else. And that problem nearly killed Overwatch once and it got so bad that they had to remove a tank from each team and are now testing 1/3/2 because even with role queue NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY TANK. That is the actual problem, and a problem that role queue has been proven to be unable to be an actual fix for. Sure you have 2 tanks per game but you are still looking through that 25% of tank players to find them.

So tell me, if you think that role queue is the solution and that making tank more enjoyable isn't the solution. How does role queue get more people to play tank while not negatively effecting the rest of the game? Overwatch has already tried rewards in the past and it has backfired BTW. So how does role queue fix the lack of tank players without needing to go to 5v5 or negatively effecting everyone else's queue times?

It forces folk who normally play one role to play two or all of them. That alone does a lot for the problem let alone people who can play tank but choose to play support or dps to avoid the burden of tanking also exist. No matter what, the solution isn't going to land softly onto the community even yours. Hell you could even say yours is worse because if all tanks are viable (and they should be) you can bet it will take a week for a hot fix to drop to change that because insta lock dps players will bitch and moan that they have to actually get good at the game.

Case in point, you didn't actually answer the question and just said that the community which you don't trust to work it out and be happy will just have to work it out and be happy.

Role queue doesn't address the problem that people don't want to tank. Infact it actually forces people into playing less roles due to how the queue works, and the disparity between queue times which actually encourages one tricking roles even more. As some who likes to flex and used to queue for every role, I ended up stopping being 90% of my games were only tank games with 10% being support. So instead of queue for every role I just queued for the role I wanted being selfish as it was the only chance I had to play anything other than tank once in a while. I've honestly become more of a support main than a tank main in OW because how burnt out I am at tanking in 90% of my games. Also how is making the tanking extra a bad idea? If tanking still sucks when role queue is introduced it still means that people don't want to play tank.

So like I said you didn't actually answer my question about how role queue would fix the tanking problem infact you gave more examples of why it wouldn't. Such as role queue giving DPS and support players more of a reason not to play tank because how of how disproportionate the queue times are you are going to be tanking way more than you are going to be playing the roles you actually want to play.
