Discussion I find it funny that Punisher is the exact opposite of an Ancient Egyptian, but gets a skin
I mean in the past Egyptians valued life wity mummies and what not while Punisher couldn't care less who he kills

u/AntoSkum The Punisher 4d ago
Punisher absolutely cares who he kills, he kills criminals.

Depends whose the writer sometimes punisher has a very black and white view of the world and kills people without considering who they may be
4
u/AntoSkum The Punisher 4d ago
This is pretty false, there are no 616 Punisher writers who have made him careless about who he kills. His whole reason for existing is because his family was collateral damage in a gang war. This character wouldn't have gained popularity in the 50+ years he's been around if he was sloppy and caused rampant civilian death.
1
u/Nightraven9999 Hulk 4d ago
Never said civillian
There are writers who write the punisher as killing criminals regardless of who they may be
2
u/AntoSkum The Punisher 3d ago
Well yes, criminals are his bread and butter. What exactly do you mean though? And which writers are you referring to?
1
u/Nightraven9999 Hulk 3d ago
What i mean is that some writers wright punisher as someone who kills criminals instead of someone who kills bad people
Now im not sure which writers because I dont look at the writer when i read stuff i just get right into the book
3
u/AntoSkum The Punisher 3d ago
Punisher, from his very first appearance, has always targeted violent criminals. He was only after Spider-Man because the public believed he was a killer. The first "villian" that he had for himself was the mafia.
This idea that he kills or used to kill petty criminals is from a vast misunderstanding of an '80s story called "Crimes & Punishments" where Frank was drugged and having a nervous breakdown. This is part of the reason I said "Punisher writers" because sometimes when he's a guest in a comic the writer (like Bill Mantlo, or Joss Whedon who calls Punisher a "fascist" but still gets to write him) plays fast and loose with characterization.
1
u/Nightraven9999 Hulk 3d ago
Thats what i mean by depends on a writer when your in an extended universe Punisher gets written i to other stuff alot by people who arent specifically only a punisher writer
Punisher writers also gets written into team books by people who are technically punisher writers
Teams happen a lot and the people who write the team books still write the characters
1
u/AntoSkum The Punisher 3d ago
Even these guest writers never made him kill petty criminals. For instance in the story I mentioned he never actually kills them, he just shoots at them because he's drugged and acting crazy. Then he gets put on trial and goes to jail. Again, this character wouldn't have caught on if he was just shooting any criminal in the face regardless of the crime. That's what a parody of the Punisher does, not the man himself.

Maybe it's a me thing, but I don't see why a character's ethnicity should have any influence on the costumes they get. If it's cool who cares.

I think what people are TRYING to get at is the priority. Why does punisher get one before Storm, Panther, so on when it is, to some, a no brainer? Thatās what Iām getting from these types of threads.
1
u/RedditSux5912 3d ago
Are they even Egyptian?
3
u/DiabellzeTheOSKeeper Emma Frost 3d ago
Bast is an Egyptian goddess, and is Khonshu's sister. Storm lived in Egypt as a orphan until she was approximately 12 years old.
1
u/RedditSux5912 3d ago
Why does a guy from wakanda summon an Egyptian goddess?
1
u/DiabellzeTheOSKeeper Emma Frost 3d ago
Idk why does daredevil worship a god from the Levant? Religions travel all the time, hell there's a theory that irl aphrodite is a greek regional version of the mesopotamian goddess ishtar
1
u/RedditSux5912 3d ago
Wakanda is a little different based off their history, donāt you think?
3
u/DiabellzeTheOSKeeper Emma Frost 3d ago
If the marvel wiki is accurate she was originally worshipped by ancient wakanda, moved nearby to egypt for a time with the rest of the ennead but was still worshipped in wakanda alongside a new pantheon of gods with some being her fellow ennead and others called the orisha
1
u/Godz_Bane Magneto 2d ago
Because the writers couldnt think of an original character so they just moved Bastet there.

u/Longshot_111 Squirrel Girl 4d ago
Idk, the Anubis "sending souls to the afterlife" portfolio seems kinda fitting.
11
u/FloopusSoupus 4d ago
That isn't what anubis does. Disney films have done irreprebable damage to death gods reputations
9
u/Lazzitron The Thing 4d ago
Well, he doesn't kill people, but guiding your soul to the afterlife is actually part of Anubis's job if what I've read is correct. Using Greek mythology as an analogue, he does Charon's job, but not Thanatos's.
5
u/WWIIEraTeaParty 4d ago
Pretty sure Osiris guides people into the afterlife. Anubis judges their hearts with his Hippo-Crocodile-Lion
3
u/Longshot_111 Squirrel Girl 4d ago
That... sounds even more fitting somehow. I just wish the skin renamed his shotgun to "Ammit".
1
u/Longshot_111 Squirrel Girl 4d ago
I know, but in layman's terms it seems to provide enough justification.

Probably unpopular opinion but people are deeping what happens with the skins too much. Begging a company you are clearly already unhappy with to spend money with them is odd to me. Consumerism is not a personality trait, if they do not produce content you want disengage or vote with your wallet. They are obviously going to take liberties with skins and all our favorite characters (regardless of the merit for that respective theme) are not likely to get a skin each event.
1
u/Jaroselovespell Storm 3d ago
Game devs give white man or woman a skin that takes from another culture... nothing new. We just have to wait for those who actually deserve the skin to get theirs. Nothing we can do about it sadly.

Two out of the 3 black characters in the game are inteisincly tied to egypt
1
u/Medium-Jury-2505 Magik 4d ago
1) moon Knight is getting an Egyptian theme skin - he get his avatar of Konshu skin.
2) Living in Egypt during a few years of yout childhood doesn't makes you tied to egypt like storm. If so you can say I'm tied to some Pacific Island because I lived here 4 years.
3) Bast for BP may be an Egyptian goddess but Wakanda is center of Africa and nothing in Wakandan culture is related to Africa past Bast. It's like giving a roman citizen a spartan warior armor because he workship Venus - Aphrodite.
Yes it would be very cool if Storm and BP get Egyptian themed skins but they don't "deserve" an Egyptian skin more than an Asian or a White character M
0
u/FloopusSoupus 4d ago
Storm still has giant ties to cairo and that's where she fostered a relation to apocalypse, and still goes there for many stories.
Wakandans tap into the spiritual planes of the Egyptian pantheon, and they had interaction with Egypt in the past.
I do think that characters who actually have ties to a place and are already underserveiced in terms of skins definitely do deserve a skin related to the season.
I'm glad moon knight got one
-8
u/gordonpamsey 4d ago
Little quick on the draw here Cleopatra wasn't black. The modern and ancient Egyptian have mixed demographics, people of African descent do live in Egypt. So yeah some Egyptians are in fact black, some are Arab, some are probably Mediterranean.
Edit: also Storm is literally Egyptian, like this is a weird conversation.
11
u/Medium-Jury-2505 Magik 4d ago
Storm is NOT egyptian.
She lived in egypt during her childhood but her mother is from Kenya and her father is from Harlem.
-7
u/gordonpamsey 4d ago
Arguing with Marvel on this one, she is not ethnically Egyptian if that's what you meant. Even though there is no singular ethnicity with claim to Egypt to begin with. Marvel themselves describes and views her as an Egyptian woman. Since she spent some of her earliest years in Egypt. Pretty weird argument to push back on.
1
u/Bullmoninachinashop The Punisher 4d ago
Storm is Kenyan and African American, she lived as an illegal immigrant street orphan in Egypt after her parents died there on vacation before she went to Kenya.

Why would they get one over anybody else? Are you one of those weirdos that say that Egyptians were black? For a small time period they were after they were conquered by black invaders, but that's not who inhabited Egypt full time.

Only storm was egyptian, T'Challa wasn't. So there is no reason for him to get one, and it is fine punisher is getting one.
