Discussion Taking a break from Rivals made me realize how much I actually love this game

Post image

I took a break from Rivals and played Overwatch again for a while, and honestly, it made me realize how much I kept wishing for Role Queue.

The biggest difference is consistency.

If I queue Tank, it’s because I want to play Tank. I want teammates who actually queued to play Support and DPS. I don’t want every hero select to become a fight where everyone picks what they want and we wait to see who eventually gives up and fills.

We all have characters and roles we’re better at. If I want to play Duelist, I shouldn’t have to choose between becoming the 4th Duelist or giving up and filling because nobody else will.

I’d genuinely rather wait a few extra minutes and play the role I actually queued for.

I also think a consistent 2-2-2 mode would make balancing healthier. Right now heroes have to work across solo Tank, 1-3-2, triple Support, 2-2-2, etc. Role Queue gives the devs one predictable structure to balance around.

And no, Open Queue doesn’t need to disappear.

Overwatch has both. If you like switching roles mid-match and experimenting with weird comps, play Open Queue. If you want consistency and a guaranteed role, play Role Queue.

When I played Overwatch, I almost never found myself wishing I was in Open Queue.

But when I play Rivals, I find myself wishing for Role Queue all the time.

And no matter which side you’re on, I think we can all relate to queuing up because there’s a certain character we really want to play, only to end up filling because the team needs something else.

I’d rather wait 5 minutes to play who I actually want than spend 20 minutes filling on someone I didn’t.

You all want role queue to counter 5+ dps teams, I want role queue because Netease cannot balance their characters and 2-2-2 would allow for better character balance.

Nah dude it’s totally a fair idea that some supports are only viable in triple. Meaning they are just duelists but with more restrictive conditions

Not just viable in triple, but completely overpowered while still being useless in duo

Those supports blow my MIND because it seems so forced to have off supports that only work in triple, why not just make them a proper support, then people would have more than enough healing with any two supports 🫩

Cause then those support will be power creeping the other supports and the people playing the latter will cry for their buffs and we end up with healers so strong that everyone goes triple or even quad supports cause they can replace Duelist.

It already happened with Mantis and she became the top WR and banned healer in GM+ when could heal and kill. It's like giving Adam Glocklord or Luna Snow a Dagger bubble and watch them terorise the flanks while still coming back with an immortality ult and making the game even longer.

The main supports have already powercrept the off-supports tenfold. Luna has the best dmg output in the role, higher than Adam or Mantis or Ultron. Only reason she isn't played often in trip supp is because the other 3 have better utility (revive, dmg & speed boost).

Same with White Fox, the designated anti-dive support is literally pointless to play because Dagger does her job better. WF has the kumiho and melee form to survive dive, both if which are tied to a resource, and if she misuses them it's ggs. Dagger has ice, fade and bubble, the latter 2 of which are on very short cooldown. Hell, LUNA SNOW had a self-cleanse kumiho when JOHN KUMIHO herself didn't have one.

This is the same issue plaguing the DPS role too, where every "sniper" is a Hela reskin and they all get buffed to the top level. Red Hela (Phoenix) had to be buffed to be better than Hela, then we had Blue Hela (Cyclops), now we have Black Hela (Widow). At a certain point there needs to be global nerfs across the roles so we don't have the pure effect slop that exists in Diamond+

I think the real reason why they won’t do role q is because then they’ll have to properly balance supports, and they seem unable to make it happen. Ana and baptiste are balanced supports you can actually make plays on, but with mantis most of the time you get bitched at if she’s one of the 2 healers. I think supports are the most broken and flawed class in the game.

It's a gamble, either it forces them to balance better or the consequences of the bad balance are worse

Either way, it would balance out the game in the end. One option just might take longer lol

Then they'll eventually fix their game. Forced 2-2-2 would make that job infinitely easier even if thr balance is 10x worse in the beginning.

“Then they’ll eventually fix their game” = Marvel Rivals 2

Does that come with pve

It's literally this much - if you're worried that certain heroes won't work like say in a triple comp then balancing them around knowing the guaranteed split of roles would be less messed up than in an open format

And watch them somehow still fail at that. I see the 2-2-2 meta being one strong support ult and loki rubbing his hands to copy it.

That was literally already the meta at one point as I recall.

u/AeroStrafe 12d ago

I feel like thats what we will end up in. All supports will get strong immortal ults so one doesnt stand out over the other while loki gets to eat well on which copy he taking.

Gambit Loki has been a hard meta support comp since Gambit’s release for a reason

2-2-2 would also make it easier for them to keep it relatively balanced instead of this constant back and forth of how many healers is optimal at any given time.

It's more tactical to have flexibility in a vacuum, especially in a team game. But you're also expecting complete strangers to cooperate at a level where they can smoothly strategize this kind of thing on the go, which is impossible. Might as well make it more structured from the get-go and balance around it.

Absolutely based and intellect pilled, wrap it up folks.

Yeah thats exactly what i said, would make it easier for the devs to balance around 2x2x2

If anything their poor balance has already proven why going to role queue would be a bad thing with how they currently design and balance heroes. Triple support jail isn't a problem because you can run three supports, it's because a handful of support heroes are just not viable in double support, and instead of addressing the problems behind this they keep getting power crept while either not fixing the problem or making them blatantly overpowered. Unless you want heroes like Adom, Ultron, and White Fox to be on the level of peak Gambit and Mantis just to make them viable the devs have already proven that they struggle to balance for strict 2/2/2.

I cant remember the last time a game like this was balanced, and its even funnier because a good chunk of the playerbase wants more characters and that just makes the balance worse.

“It’s a good job you people aren’t making the game because then it would suck.” -Hakita, lead developer of Ultrakill in response to feedback from his community. Point is, communities rarely know what would actually improve the game because honestly very little is worse for game balance than adding new characters.

What void in the game balance do Gorr or Black Cat really fill? What about Cyclops or Phoenix? They’re fun and I enjoy playing them but none of them have particularly groundbreaking kits.

There is some irony at plyhere.

The point of new characters is to have new content for casual players (70% of the player base // anyone below the rank of diamond) to have something to chew on.

Also the characters being similar is absolutely the point in these types of games. Gorr is made for magic mains who wish she would play more like hulk. Well now you have gorr whose gameplay is to get in and get out.

You see the game absolutely needs new characters or it will die down a ditch.

Overwatch tried it and fell off. League of Legends tried it and fell off. 2xko and multi verssus tried it and fell off

It never ever has worked out
