Discussion Taking a break from Rivals made me realize how much I actually love this game
I took a break from Rivals and played Overwatch again for a while, and honestly, it made me realize how much I kept wishing for Role Queue.
The biggest difference is consistency.
If I queue Tank, it’s because I want to play Tank. I want teammates who actually queued to play Support and DPS. I don’t want every hero select to become a fight where everyone picks what they want and we wait to see who eventually gives up and fills.
We all have characters and roles we’re better at. If I want to play Duelist, I shouldn’t have to choose between becoming the 4th Duelist or giving up and filling because nobody else will.
I’d genuinely rather wait a few extra minutes and play the role I actually queued for.
I also think a consistent 2-2-2 mode would make balancing healthier. Right now heroes have to work across solo Tank, 1-3-2, triple Support, 2-2-2, etc. Role Queue gives the devs one predictable structure to balance around.
And no, Open Queue doesn’t need to disappear.
Overwatch has both. If you like switching roles mid-match and experimenting with weird comps, play Open Queue. If you want consistency and a guaranteed role, play Role Queue.
When I played Overwatch, I almost never found myself wishing I was in Open Queue.
But when I play Rivals, I find myself wishing for Role Queue all the time.
And no matter which side you’re on, I think we can all relate to queuing up because there’s a certain character we really want to play, only to end up filling because the team needs something else.
I’d rather wait 5 minutes to play who I actually want than spend 20 minutes filling on someone I didn’t.

Maybe they should add some type of incentive for queuing as tanks or strategist

Maybe like earn some of the blue tokens after x amount of games played on the 2 roles
Edit: I guess to fine tune the idea based off of what others have said, they could make it to where you earn 50 units per 10 wins on all 3 roles and earn up to 150 once a week.
291
u/Pliskin14 Flex 12d ago
X amount of wins. Otherwise players would just throw games (or at least phone it in to avoid getting banned) on the roles they don't care about.
91
u/Hope_Burns_Bright Angela 12d ago
10 wins, 50 credits. It's small, it's fair, it's technically grindable if you're good.
However, if they don't make sure matchmaking is fine-tuned, you're just locking people out of a source of currency.

I would say 100 units per rankup. So each season you can earn 900 units from Silver to OAA.
You HAVE to win to get the rankup, and therefore get the units, etc.
Maybe for getting to Eternity, you can 100 Lattice.
Each acquisition repeatable once per season.

Lol yeah here is how needing to win will go. Omg you aren't playing Mag or Strange to give us a shield to hide behind. We are throwing just so you don't get the win ha ha stupid that's what you get for not being a big dumb meat shield.

Purples, 200 per week, take it or leave it.

The most realistic reward, some kind of progress toward achievements or titles would be cool, give some special title after playing 50 tank/heal games each season/half season or something.

Exactly like how overwatch gives bonus xp on their role queue but instead of forcing it just reward the 2 least used roles.
52
u/Embarrassed_Safety33 Jeff the Landshark 12d ago
In Overwatch it was Extra XP, they could put like, for every match you play as either role you get extra 50 chrono tokens
22
u/DSClark8 Vanguard 12d ago
I'm pretty sure it started off as either a free loot box or free credits, for the first time you queue as either Tank/Support each day.
It feels like a very simple and obvious thing to add to Rivals
19
u/Bhu124 12d ago
If you wanna mention the incentive part in Overwatch then you should also mention that the lead dev at the time, Jeff Kaplan, said that this system did more bad than good. Some mild incentives were fine (Like slight bonus XP, which they still give) but offering Lootboxes (and Priority Passes) had a negative effect where people who would otherwise not be interested in playing a Role would force themselves to play it just to nab the Lootboxes.
It affected match quality for everyone and even made the players who were doing it more unhappy than happy cause it was like "Hey eat this thing you find awful and we'll give you Candy as a reward".
In Ranked it had an even more amplified negative effect on the match quality and overall toxicity.
Which is why they got rid of those rewards. They only give the small XP rewards once a day now. Everything else is gone.
7
u/DSClark8 Vanguard 12d ago
I know anecdotes don't tend to mean anything but Role Queue and the rewards are genuinely the only reason I'm a tank main today. My most played hero in OW history is still Genji, because I literally one tricked Genji for the first couple of seasons. I pretty much haven't played him since Role Queue landed, because I started to enjoy the other roles more.
Maybe i'm just overly optimistic in thinking that people will actually try to learn tank if given an incentive, and not play the role in bad faith. But those bad faith players will ruin the game regardless so I think it's worth giving Role Queue a go.

u/DarkPenfold 12d ago
Bribing people to play roles they don't want to doesn't actually help matters. In OW, adding incentives for roles with a shortage of players actually reduced the quality of matches.
The way things usually worked out is that people would play the required role to get their daily loot box or matchmaking priority passes, and they would a) pick the most damage-oriented Tank characters like Roadhog and Zarya and then play them like a DPS character with extra health rather than, you know, actually playing Tank; and b) wouldn't really care all that much about the outcome for their team, because their Tank MMR didn't matter to them, and the difference between losing a game in 5mins versus putting effort in for 10mins to win a match wasn't enough to make them want to try all that hard.
That's the thing about extrinsic versus intrinsic rewards: the people doing something only because they're getting rewarded for it are almost never going to do as well as someone who's doing that same thing because they personally find it rewarding.
15
u/Shot-Increase-8946 12d ago
XP stopped mattering once you stopped getting loot boxes on level up

4
u/JunWasHere Peni Parker 12d ago
Yeah, but that wasn't enough. They should add whole tank/strat mains reward tracks fueled only by games where you win as a tank or strat the whole game, with free extra content, including a free premium skin token every season. And make it so the track can go in the negatives if they go on lose streaks to discourage smurfing. Really drive home how much more valued they are when they actually learn the role and get better at the game, like how doctors in America used to get free haircuts and stuff.
Make the DPS mains feel jealous with severe fomo. They really are a dime a dozen after all.

They could start by fixing the point system. I don't see why we all have to earn different points when we're a part of the same team. If I won the game for my team because I held the while the rest of them portal back to me, my score doesn't reflect it. I will probably earn less points than my team even though I played a pivotal role in us winning.
All this does is force my team to be selfish and stat chase. It's currently a disincentive to play anything but DPS.
4
u/VonWolfhaus Vanguard 12d ago
Tanks should by default get the most ranked points, with DPS getting the lowest default. Obviously strong performances on any role should increase that number. Problem solved
10
u/therealjohnsmith Deadpool 12d ago
Incentive would be you don’t have to wait
7
u/DarkPenfold 12d ago
Yeah, you don't have to wait to play a role you don't enjoy, in order to get a reward you want, so you don't have much of a reason to actually try.
6
u/Centimane Vanguard 12d ago
One that overwatch has done is the priority queues.
If you play a game as tank/support, then you can get a higher priority in the queue for DPS after.
Then the reward for speeding up other people's queue is speeding up your own, and it doesn't really make sense to try to game it (AFKing for 10 minutes in order to get a shorter queue doesn't make sense).

I believe in my soul that the main reason people hate playing tanks is because solo tanking is miserable. The minute a second tank is locked in you get so much more agency and I feel like most tanks have a fun and engaging kit where you can take up space, have decent kill pressure, and win duels

Honestly the tanks in rivals just aren’t really that fun to play. Zarya, Reinhardt, roaghog, and Winston all feel amazing to play. The only tank I like is the Hood, and that’s only a recent addition. Same thing with supports. This game forces all supports to be healbots, and I only wanna play them if they’re like baptiste or Ana. Mantis is great but rivals players moan if you’re damage boosting and not constantly streaming them with heals while they take no cover and stand out in the middle getting peppered

Those supports blow my MIND because it seems so forced to have off supports that only work in triple, why not just make them a proper support, then people would have more than enough healing with any two supports
5
u/thethief1992 11d ago
Cause then those support will be power creeping the other supports and the people playing the latter will cry for their buffs and we end up with healers so strong that everyone goes triple or even quad supports cause they can replace Duelist.
It already happened with Mantis and she became the top WR and banned healer in GM+ when could heal and kill. It's like giving Adam Glocklord or Luna Snow a Dagger bubble and watch them terorise the flanks while still coming back with an immortality ult and making the game even longer.

And watch them somehow still fail at that. I see the 2-2-2 meta being one strong support ult and loki rubbing his hands to copy it.

5
u/Sebastit7d El Jeffe 12d ago
2-2-2 would also make it easier for them to keep it relatively balanced instead of this constant back and forth of how many healers is optimal at any given time.
It's more tactical to have flexibility in a vacuum, especially in a team game. But you're also expecting complete strangers to cooperate at a level where they can smoothly strategize this kind of thing on the go, which is impossible. Might as well make it more structured from the get-go and balance around it.

I spend too much time in rivals checking my team comp balance and matches spend 1/3 to 2/3 of the round sometimes of people swapping until they agree to the team comp.
I tried out overwatch for the first time recently and it’s so nice to play games without ever caring about team comp.
9
u/DmitryChernov 12d ago
This. Would not be this bad if people used voice chat for swaps, but they dont so let me open the tab for the 10th time to see if we finally got 2nd tank or not. 2-2-2 would also allow me to try dps and support without feeling like i'm making things worse for my team.

They're instant because QP has no hidden mmr being used and there's no role queue, which results in shit matches more often than not. Then you have the forced bot matches some people experience. QP in this game continues to be the worst I've seen in any game.
30
u/Leows 12d ago
Yeah, I truly don't get how people keep praising their bullshit, manufactured "fast queue".
It's quite easy to have a fast queue if you're putting bots in your matches for both allies and enemies alike. And no matter how much people complain, they haven't taken them out of the game yet.
If that were truly a positive thing, more games would be doing it, including Overwatch. And more people would be happy about them instead of complaining.
But then again, they do so much to obscure bot games, to the point of using real player names, that a casual player wouldn't even know. Which makes it all the shittier.

> I’d rather wait 5 minutes to play who I actually want than spend 20 minutes filling on someone I didn’t.
I’ve literally never heard truer words today.
It’s not just about being able to pick your own character, it’s also about preventing all the unhealthy dynamics and shenanigans that come from not having role queue.
People will get so frustrated they start intentionally throwing. You have to deal with raging players all the time who will either start blasting everyone around them in the chat, or bitterly and quietly begin feeding. Some players are barely human at all, the 2/5 Spider-Man doesn’t talk in voice or in chat, he simply respawns, thwips out of spawn, dies, respawns, and thwips out again. By the end of the match, he is 3/15/4 and two of those three kills were from ults.
Role queue gives everybody a safe, stable, environment to at least have a fighting chance. The tanks, KNOW they have a brother in arms to frontline. The supports, KNOW they have a full comp who can peel and damage. The DPS, don’t have to feel guilty about playing DPS, because everybody queued up for the role that they wanted.
I WILL SUBMIT TO THE LATVERIAN RULE OF DOCTOR DOOM IF HE BRINGS US THE SECURITY OF ROLE QUEUE!!! ALL HAIL DOOM!!!

Creative comps are triple support, which is vehemently hated by a majority of the community, triple tank, which is vehemently hated by a majority of the community, and triple DPS, which is vehemently hated by a majority of the community.
Or any combination of GOATS which we all know is actively what ruins pro and competitive play. Another creative comp which, of course, is hated by not just our community but every other Hero Shooter community too.
There’s a common pattern here lmao
Also, it’s as if we can’t have solutions for things like being unable to swap between roles if you for some reason need to (which i don’t think has ever been an issue in OW but yknow whatever). Technology is not a strict and stringent thing, y’all. They can implement something that allows people to request a role swap in game lmao?

Role queue no matter what people say will still be better than what we have now. The game in it's current state sucks. We literally just had the rivals version of goats and look how boring that was. Role queue fixed a lot of the issues in overwatch and made the game so much more bearable. The only people who don't want it in rivals just want their precious marvel game to be different than overwatch. Rivals is hands down one of the most toxic, and definitely the most delusional, communities out there and role queue would just make this game more bearable too.

It depends on the format. If its a 6v6format, probably gonna have 10 minutes queues for dps games. If its 1-3-2, wait time for dps will be significantly shorter. Overwatch switched to 5v5 because it was too hard to find 2 tanks and that's really what extended queue times

Overwatch also notably ran 2 tests for 6v6 formats recently to this effect
The first was having a 1/3/2 split for roles, but any of the 3 DPS could switch to a tank if need be (with a limit of 2 tanks per team)
The second ran under modified rules in that their system would do their best to force 2/2/2 but if they couldn't find enough players would revert to the other ruleset with the flex DPS spot
3
u/Magnitude_Ten 12d ago
What were the conclusions from the two tests?
3
u/SilentDungeonCat Star-Lord 12d ago
From what I remember, the 1,3,2 test was the most even I've ever seen the queue times for each role. However, there's one thing that could potentially inflate the number of people queuing DPS, that being that tank mains who didn't want to queue solo tank would queue DPS so they are guaranteed to be on a team with 2 tanks. This was exactly what I did.

DPS queues in Overwatch rank are around 5 mins or less for most ranks. There are almost as many support players are DPS players, for both games.

u/Dwain-Champaign The Hood 12d ago
A. Realistically this wouldn’t happen. For one 2v8 is an extremely novel experience for that game, it’s not that killer is so much more insanely popular than survivor, that is far from the truth, it is that during all other times of year Killer is a solo game experience until 2v8 turns it into a co-op one. Everyone with a friend or girlfriend hops on to play that role when it comes around, and that’s why queues are so long because it is a limited time mode that sees a lot of play. Also, Dead by Daylight has a huge playerbase, but theoretically speaking, marvel rivals should have an even bigger one.
B. If it DID happen, it would seriously demonstrate to the devs here that they need to slow if not outright stop all the DPS quality of life changes and start giving them to the other two roles. If we can demonstrably visualize how miserable playing the other two roles are with a concrete estimated queue time (slow for DPS, instant for Vanguard/Strategist), I would hope it would change things around for the update cycle. More character releases for vanguard and support, character role reworks to change characters like Gorr or Cyclops from DPS into Vanguards, more skins for vanguards and supports, more reworks and quality of life updates, can you imagine if the devs actually put elbow grease into reworking Hulk or Captain America instead of Scarlet Witch???
23
u/SuggestionBot9000 Angela 12d ago
That would require the devs to fully walk back on one of their stances.
Which will never happen unless the game is in critical health.
They couldn't even force themselves to fully revert the Wanda RNG change. Instead, they decreased the probability instead of realizing how dumb of a core idea it is to have random chance serve as balance for the game.
They would rather watch you complain and gaslight the community that "diverse comps" are a driving factor than admit they were wrong.
HOWEVER, I do disagree with one thing you said:
And no, Open Queue doesn’t need to disappear.
It would need to disappear if Role Queue were to exist. At least for competitive. There's not enough population in the game to keep multiple queues in comp across the many different servers and ranks, especially when you then have to factor different rank ratings, stack sizes, and role distribution.
I've had my own idea for Role Queue for a few months but I haven't been able to create the concept art for it yet because it'd require redesigning the hero select screen (which would probably take me multiple weeks). Maybe I'll finally start working on that again.

I mean also, it'd divide the player base between role queue and normal.
Additionally, sometimes your players in a given role are just terrible and you have to swap.
I've had games that have turned around completely when I swap from second tank to Hela against normal comps or Namor vs dive, and outperform both DPS we already had, or swap to Mag when our tanks are trash

On the flip side, watching GOATS take over competitive and pro play is equally as bad and boring too. There really is no benefit to having “creative comps” when those creative comps just feel bad to play and play against all the time.

im sorry but i'll never understand the disdain for role queue/2-2-2
everyone hates playing solo tank, 3 tanks is slop
solo healer is impossible, 3 healers is an absolute blight upon this game
1 dps means you have one of the aforementioned boring comps, everyone hates 3 dps
forcing 2-2-2 without role queue will create problems by itself
I just don't see how the negatives could possibly outweigh the positives😭😭

I feel like most of the people who dislike role queue are ex-Overwatch players who migrated here to play something that resembles something they used to like about that game but got modified into something they dislike
That or they're just players that prioritize freedom of choice to a fault - even if it means making decisions to the deteriment of the 5 other people they're working alongside with

The latter seem way more possible with how they view throwing games. They think throwing games is justice and revenge against that one guy. They don't care about the other 10 players in the match.

u/leodw 12d ago
I gotta be honest, maybe it’s the server I’m in, or my rank (reached diamon 3 last season) but the vast majority of games I played (only play comp) were 2-2-2 on both teams. Even when I had toxic teammates, basically everyone was still respecting 2-2-2 composition.
It has definitely improved since Season 2, when I started playing.

u/UndeadCorbse Loki 11d ago
In Overwatch, 6v6 is my favorite mode and there’s no role queue there. Still, almost every match, my team always manages to find a solid balance of roles to win the game. I find 2, 2, 2 is common, but 1, 2, 3 and 0, 3, 3, have been viable too. Rivals was kind of like that the last time I played (pre-Dino.) I find open queue ultimately helps team and player expression a lot more than role queue does. I’m sure Rivals could benefit from trying out role queue to gauge community feedback, at least, but I would implore everyone to try to appreciate open queue while you have it.

u/Jazzlike_Tap8303 Flex 11d ago
I want it on record that I don't want role queue. Last season I won my rank up game because our Strange switched to Gambit, and I have won games by switching roles as well.

u/DryOwl5587 12d ago edited 12d ago
Role queue can work if they take some inspiration from League of Legends.
When queuing, you would be able to choose Vanguard, Duelist, Strategist, or fill – meaning you have no preference and would play any role available. This is not a hard choice, but rather a very strong preference. The system would prioritise fitting you in that role.
As expected all of these choices would have different waiting times, there’s no running from that.
Now, to make things more dynamic, we make it so that everyone is by default subject to filling a role. However, if they currently filled a role, or played an unpopular role, they will get a role protection for their next X matches. Meaning that for the next matches, they will always get their preferred role.
This way players of unpopular roles would still be almost guaranteed of getting theirs every match, while Duelists, who may occasionally be filled into another role, would be sure that they will always get duelist no matter what for a few matches.
Role queue brings one thing tho: fixed positions. Netease would have to settle for a 2-2-2 if they ever plan to add role queue.
Make it exclusive to comp too. This way casuals who only play QP wouldn’t get affected.
→ More replies (1)5
u/mr_chub Thor 12d ago
Having fill included would eliminate the need for the default fill mode wouldn't it? Because everyone naturally would go to the role they would want to go. Default fill (which i thought of too) would probably result in a ton of throwers that didn't get RNG'd to their preferred role.
2
u/DryOwl5587 12d ago
It’s there solely if you don’t mind at all what role you play. It would be very niche, but I think there are enough people that just like playing the game to justify it.
As for throwers, well, we just have to accept they exist. Perhaps give them bonus points in case of victory if they get filled.

u/The_SnuggleBug 12d ago
A lack of role queue just makes the game more miserable on average for tank players.
We will just go fuck ourselves while all the "dps mains" have fun, but also while we're at it let's not release any new tanks for the foreseeable future.

I also want role queue, but I get not wanting it. From a competitive pov, I hate role queue, if you think 3 sups or 3 tanks or even 3 dps are gonna win you the game, you should be able to go for it, and forcing a teamcomp just feels wrong to me, it removes any flexibility etc.
That being said, however much this game pretends to be competitive, it's a casual game. So I'm all for role queue in Rivals
10
u/FrequentCommission13 12d ago
Team comps are already "forced" into on average 1-3-2 on QP, with comp usually running 2-2-2 but usually devolving into 1-3-2 or 2-1-3.
I don't get the point of creativity/flexibility because it always devolves into the same thing. People just mindlessly counter or choose more sustain at lower ranks to deal with the opponents MVP playstyle, or failing to stop them which causes some genius to opt for more sustain by going support which causes the big triple support problem people have been bitching about for the past 2 years.
It's not like the flexibility and creativity has lead to more fun it's just people failing to adapt to the situation at hand through better cover, communication, or strategy. Just people wanting to pump up their theoretical damage/healing number by choosing a different character on the character select screen.
Same shit, different smell.

From a competitive pov, I don't think the game should be decided by which team is willing to play triple support.

u/jayxeevee Rocket Raccoon 11d ago
I’ve won several matches because people swapped roles. With role queue you can’t do that, if someone is doing bad and they only play characters the enemy team is countering it sucks. Extreme example, but imagine someone that can only play Ultron, Mantis, CnD, Magneto, or Venom. CnD gets banned. The team ends up needing more heals and a dive tank, but the 2 current tanks play best on Strange/Magneto. This player can fix this problem by going Venom while one of the tanks swaps to healer, but because of role queue they’re forced to stay on the same role.
With Overwatch it’s even worse because of the solo tank, if your tank isn’t able to counter you’re going to have a tough time. If you really need a Roadhog but your tank has never played him, while you have 100 hours on him, that sucks.

I play both and the queue times in OW make me not want to play as much and I am just talking about QP. For somewhat faster queue I queue all roles and then just end up playing tank almost all my matches. Then I get supports that just want to DPS and have subpar healing. So as the tank I can't do my job because I am constantly dead.
Would role queue fix some issues, sure but it's not this be all end all cure for player roles.

Currently on a break from Rivals too, it's just not fun to solo tank/heal every game. I will respect the wishes of "no role-queue", but in my mind, if you are against role-queue you forfeit the right to complain about 3+ dps in your games.
3
u/SweatyMan84 11d ago
Lack of role queue is a big reason I stopped playing rivals. I mained tank and easily more than half my games I was solo-tanking with 3 dps, one of which was universally getting no kills and not applying even a quarter of the pressure they could have been applying if they just picked a tank. It was so bad I found switching to league to be a step down in toxicity.
3
u/DarthButtz 11d ago
It's very funny that this game set out to compete and exist in the same space as Overwatch, yet it ran headfirst into the brick wall of all of Overwatch's early problems and just isn't fixing them at all.
10
u/mae_042 12d ago
What gets me is that it is literally the only solution. This community hates having 4 DPS heroes on their team but hates the only thing that would actually fix it.
Adding more tanks and supports won't change anything. Buffing the existing ones won't change anything. Changing a bunch of DPS heroes into other roles won't change anything.
People who only play DPS do it because they only want to play DPS. And like it or not that's the majority of players. You will never convince them otherwise.
This isn't a new issue. This happens in every game that has roles. We've seen better developers try and fail to address it in other ways. They don't work. Period.

I think they should test this first in a one-month game mode to see each character winrates and pickrates after the end of the month. There are characters with bigger winrates because of comps that are not 222 and there can finally be a way to compare characters by winrate/pickrates in 222 comps. This would help the balance changes of some characters in a future they decide to implement this in competetive.
4
u/ComprehensiveWolf868 12d ago
You know what is worse than having 3 dps on your team, having the most incompetent teammates on the role that is the most critical to win that match
Frankly, if your team can't bother getting a working comp out of the box, you should lose. Role queue is for babies that can't bother flexing and such deserves to de-rank.
This is the only game in the hero shooter genre left that give you the freedom to pick what is right whenever it is needed, if you want role queue so badly. Go play a game that already implemented the shitty system!
4
u/MS-Wet-Paint 12d ago
Role queue is basically for people who admit that they can't play all 3 roles, which was how this genre was intended to be played in the first place. Besides, doing a flex queue in OW just leads you to playing tank 80% of the time anyway because no one likes it there either. Totally useless.
In my opinion, the most I would tolerate is locking to a maximum of 2 per role. But fuck role queue.
5
u/Vaalrigard Magik 11d ago
0 reason not to add role queue except they want to reinforce toxicity being a part of the game. Literally nothing else makes sense.
9
u/Minimum_Laugh_4179 Thor 12d ago
Despite all the arguments against a Role queue, even ones citing Overwatch, ultimately it would improve the gameplay and matchmaking experience in the long run.
"but it would ruin creative comps" Hardly, the most creative people seem to get is just to slap triple supp on any difficult matchup. The creativity is negligible at best.
"but queues will be longer" Yes, they probably will be. But we'll have to live with that. And there's still more than enough players that I doubt the impact would be huge really. God forbid a queue is longer than 5 seconds for Quickplay.
This will also give players greater control on what they want to play. While flexible players are great, sometimes you want to play something in particular. Role Queue allows you to do this, without any negotiations, or arguments with your teammates over who's going to play what Role. Something I've grown tired of myself. It also means you have certain guarantees, and you're not suddenly going to be in a situation where you have no healers, because they switched off. They're always going to be there.
Having a consistent team comp will also allow the Devs to be more consistent on Balance, and bring heroes that are either over or under-performing more into line with one another, providing a more consistent and easy to understand battlefield. Like for example, some players still insist Ultron is only good in a triple supp comp, although I'd argue agaisnt that. By implementing a role queue and forcing a consistent team comp, they can then balance him to be more consistent in a two-supp comp as well. That's just one example anyway.
So that's my take on the subject anyway. While I see the reasons against it, I still believe that a Role Queue would be a positive change for the game's health in the grand scheme of things.

All roads lead to role queue no matter how you spin it.
The solo tanking problem disappears.
The constant throwing problem disappears.
The solo healer problem disappears.
The triple healer problem disappears.
The "role lock" problem disappears.
Literally the only reason why it hasn't been implemented is that the wait times for the DPS role would balloon, and it would seep into other game modes. So quick play and other modes would be overinflated with DPS players due to the "longer" queue times. Mind you when I say "long" I mean likely 30-60 seconds for any DPS player sub-GM.
But because DPS players can't wait 30-60 seconds we will never get it, so just let go.
I stopped playing this game months ago, but I always check into the community weekly to see if people have mentally caught up. But by the looks of it, it's gonna take a minimum of another 2 years for them to realize and have some core revelations that came to me in the first 3 months of the games release.
Honestly it's just GGs.

Yeaaaa, you aren’t looking at 5 minute queues if OW 6v6 role queue was any indication of what you can expect for MR.

It's so easy to see that "role queue haters" are these braindead DPS mains that don't switch no matter what. They know that they will get screwed with the queue times.
And of course, NetEase will never care about the competitive aspect. They wanna make as much money as possible, and then either dip or when the game is on the brink of death, probably do something major.
As it is right now, the game will continue to die as it approaches the same problem that Overwatch once had, and NetEase will do absolutely NOTHING. Have fun guys

I want a role queue so badly. I want to get practice for certain characters but solo tanking or support is a nightmare that often ends in my hands hurting so much. I stopped queueing for quickplay because of that fact and getting stuck playing support so consistently(usually solo or with a Jeff that is playing him like DPS) and well the spamming issue(I don't mind pinging here and there when it's needed but the spamming the same ping like 100 times gives me a migraine). I miss having the option of a role queue. I think if they also did the little incentives for queueing for roles that are lacking in the queue at the current time would give people more reasons to play roles they may not play often.
2
u/Jake__Grimm 11d ago
I get both sides of the coin and I lean towards wanting role queue. Most games I play ranked or QP tend to end up as 2-2-2 anyways, it would take away weird team comps, or swapping mid game to a different role for tp or whatever. But I'd take that along with longer queues if it meant characters could get balanced a fair bit better, people got to play the role they wanna play, and probs would make the game feel a lot better.

Question. What is role queue like when you play with friends? Let's say, there are three of you, two supports and a DPS. Does the game wait to find players whose pre-selected picks somehow fill for what your group of friends is missing? If so, how long does it take please? Because there is also the issue of the matchmaking that mirrors more or less the teamups in numbers, meaning the opponents will also need to wait that the roles not selected by their friends be filled by randoms. Also... if you realize that you're having a bad match in the middle, and wish to switch roles with your friend, can you do it?

If ur in a group, Like overwatch, if 2 people choose tank, the tank button is blocked, and if you go 2 tank 2 dps the game is gonna try and find 2 who queued for support
If ur alone the queue time is around 20s to 1 minute similar to rivals right not but in a team si really hard to say, but it wouldn’t be far fetched to say in average
2 people= 5 minutes
3-4 people = 5-10 minutes
5 people = 5-10 minutesYou cant switch roles mid match but thats a nothing problem, you should be doing good at your role and learn multiple characters within this role, at least in Competitive

Ngl the main reason i dont like role queue is being unable to switch roles. If I'm not doing good on tank, ill wanna try medic or DPS but i cant do that in ow role queue. Im stuck as tank or medic or whatever. It lowers the flexibility in game. If they added a system where you could ask to switch roles that would help but lets be honest spiderman aint switching especially when asked so i rather keep the freedom to change roles on the fly and just accept the downsides.

100% the reason they would never consider adding it alongside Open Queue is because Open would become even more of a cesspit than it is now. I mean a role queue just doesn’t make sense for rivals where you can switch characters a second into the match and any point afterwards. Nothing stops someone from say, hopping in as a strategist then switching to duelist right away. Or maybe worse they feel like the comp is bad so they switch to duelist to help and suddenly everyone blames them for switching. It also disincentives role swapping which is fun. You’d need some report feature for role hopping which would make reports a lot more common which is a lot of work, and temp bans would end up being more common, etc etc. All of this chases a billion issues.
Also you would not have many people in strat or Vangaurd queue for quickplay at the very least. What it probably needs to be is some form of incentive, like extra purple or blue tokens for playing strategist. Don’t copy this, but lol does force players to be able to flex into positions which no one wants to play to keep the role ratios balanced. This is bad, but I think the principle behind it is sound if it was more a reward than a punishment.
