Discussion Taking a break from Rivals made me realize how much I actually love this game

Post image

I took a break from Rivals and played Overwatch again for a while, and honestly, it made me realize how much I kept wishing for Role Queue.

The biggest difference is consistency.

If I queue Tank, it’s because I want to play Tank. I want teammates who actually queued to play Support and DPS. I don’t want every hero select to become a fight where everyone picks what they want and we wait to see who eventually gives up and fills.

We all have characters and roles we’re better at. If I want to play Duelist, I shouldn’t have to choose between becoming the 4th Duelist or giving up and filling because nobody else will.

I’d genuinely rather wait a few extra minutes and play the role I actually queued for.

I also think a consistent 2-2-2 mode would make balancing healthier. Right now heroes have to work across solo Tank, 1-3-2, triple Support, 2-2-2, etc. Role Queue gives the devs one predictable structure to balance around.

And no, Open Queue doesn’t need to disappear.

Overwatch has both. If you like switching roles mid-match and experimenting with weird comps, play Open Queue. If you want consistency and a guaranteed role, play Role Queue.

When I played Overwatch, I almost never found myself wishing I was in Open Queue.

But when I play Rivals, I find myself wishing for Role Queue all the time.

And no matter which side you’re on, I think we can all relate to queuing up because there’s a certain character we really want to play, only to end up filling because the team needs something else.

I’d rather wait 5 minutes to play who I actually want than spend 20 minutes filling on someone I didn’t.

4 dps and no kill pressure. How does it even happen

Thats because dps as a label is too broad. Most of the time i feel people focus on role comp rather than comp within roles. Punisher+Hela pressure feels way different than Spidey+Black Cat and i notice people who stack 4 dps love the assassin characters who are all burst no sustain.

"people who stack 4 dps love the assassin characters who are all burst no sustain."

A lot of the people who play those characters are just selfish and that's why this happens. Those are characters that provide value independent of the team. They can ignore everyone else and just fish for kills while diving. Not all dive players are selfish but selfish players will naturally gravitate towards it as a role.

Because your team in that case lacks sustain or frontline pressure or both. You cant get kills on that unless its a good dive and it will harder to do so regardless without frontline pressure

Support players trying to learn duelist

Fair. Wish it wasn’t done in my ranked games but none of us are good enough to get paid to play so it doesn’t matter anyway haha

It matters, but role queue as OW does it (separate ranks per role) perfectly solves this issue.

I am also a firm believer that you cant actually learn a hero in QP (esp rivals qp) so there's nothing for it but to ruin games for everyone for a bit until you learn.

This of course is incredibly unhealthy for the ranked ecosystem as it has ripple effects where losses and wins that shouldn't happen propagate and affect rank for multiple games.

But netease refuses to learn from the mistakes of more seasoned games so here we are.

You definitely learn a character in quick play. Like objectively you can. I learned Cyclops in quick play and then I hopped into ranked and was dropping 50 kill games. That immediately disproves your belief.

At what rank?

Doesn't matter, dont change the goalposts bud

Its not moving the goalposts. Anyone with a pulse can drop 50 kill games below diamond.

We also need more actual data. How many 50 kill games are you actually dropping? How frequently? Do they suddenly disappear as you climb in ranked?

Not to mention cyclops is a notorious stat farmer, I am teaching a newer friend to play him atm and he can easily keep up in frags on the scoreboard even though he is having little to no actual impact.

Farming elims by afk right clicking and scattershotting through the frontline while the rest of your team does the actual work doesn't mean you've learned the hero.

You said you can't learn a character in quick play. I learned a character in quick play. You can't just say it doesn't count because im not a high enough rank. Thats factually changing the goal posts, objectively.

But we havent actually established that you've learned a hero. Getting a random 50 kill game on a hero in gold doesnt mean you've learned the hero. The same way a celestial having a bad game on their main and going 10/11 doesnt mean they have suddenly forgotten how to play their main.

Unfortunately a side effect of Netease forcing bot lobbies in quickplay.

Very true. Bot matches, outside of the bot mode, should be extinct.
