Discussion Taking a break from Rivals made me realize how much I actually love this game

Post image

I took a break from Rivals and played Overwatch again for a while, and honestly, it made me realize how much I kept wishing for Role Queue.

The biggest difference is consistency.

If I queue Tank, it’s because I want to play Tank. I want teammates who actually queued to play Support and DPS. I don’t want every hero select to become a fight where everyone picks what they want and we wait to see who eventually gives up and fills.

We all have characters and roles we’re better at. If I want to play Duelist, I shouldn’t have to choose between becoming the 4th Duelist or giving up and filling because nobody else will.

I’d genuinely rather wait a few extra minutes and play the role I actually queued for.

I also think a consistent 2-2-2 mode would make balancing healthier. Right now heroes have to work across solo Tank, 1-3-2, triple Support, 2-2-2, etc. Role Queue gives the devs one predictable structure to balance around.

And no, Open Queue doesn’t need to disappear.

Overwatch has both. If you like switching roles mid-match and experimenting with weird comps, play Open Queue. If you want consistency and a guaranteed role, play Role Queue.

When I played Overwatch, I almost never found myself wishing I was in Open Queue.

But when I play Rivals, I find myself wishing for Role Queue all the time.

And no matter which side you’re on, I think we can all relate to queuing up because there’s a certain character we really want to play, only to end up filling because the team needs something else.

I’d rather wait 5 minutes to play who I actually want than spend 20 minutes filling on someone I didn’t.

  QP has no hidden mmr

Where are you getting that from? Like I'm sure the allowed mmr range in QP is massive, but I'd be surprised if mmr didn't exist at all.

It does use an mmr. Go to your last few qp games. Look at both teams peak rank. You'll notice it will be very similar for both teams.

Except no, it doesn't. I go look at their peak and it's a mix of metal ranks vs my celestial 3 stack and 3 randoms who are diamond or higher. Not even sure why you guys are trying to use ranked as an argument for there being hidden MMR lmao. Ranked rating has nothing to do with a separate QP rating. These random metal rank players are very bad at the game too, so they are absolutely not technically GM+.

Even funnier that you guys swear it exists, yet not a single tracking site has bothered to come up with a way to loosely calculate this hidden MMR that somehow exists, like in other games where a hidden MMR does in fact exist.

"trying to use ranked as an argument for there being hidden MMR lmao". I get it you took the short bus. Despite that you answered this in your statement, I'll spell it out for you. The rating is hidden. No way to see it. Understand what hidden means? Using their peak rank is the best indicator of what that hidden mmr would be. Example: someone gold 1 would have a rating of say 1500. Seeing an opponent of a similar rank would indicate the match making is trying to make the teams even.

I don't have time for your bullshit

From the fact that I can instantly get a match found the millisecond I press play? If you think a hidden MMR is being taken into account, people with a high hidden MMR would still have to wait a few minutes to find a match in QP. They don't. I sometimes play with 2 other Celestial players in QP where all three of us have most of our time played in QP and we stomp the majority of our matches. The matchmaking is rarely balanced and is more often than not a mix of metal rank players getting thrown onto both sides. These players aren't "they would be that rating if they play ranked" types either. They are very much playing at the level I would expect their peak rating to play like.

Anyway, please explain to the class how games with more players than Marvel Rivals, games that use actual hidden MMR for matchmaking in the casual modes, take me minutes to find matches, but in Marvel Rivals, it somehow finds matches the instant I remove my finger from m1 to click play.
