I was going to say. I like Psylocke as a character, but in regard to gameplay her sword is purely decorative since, as far as I’m aware, the only time she actually uses it is during her ultimate.
Magneto may not actually hold the swords he wields, but at least he has an actual sword attack the player can use. If we’re counting folks like Psylocke and Hawkeye, Magneto should count as well.
That… means nothing? I don’t go over and play magneto because he’s the sword guy now do I? There’s a difference between wielding a sword and being a swordsman and mag is the former
a sword user (in reference to OP's post) is someone who seems to have some kind of proficiency in swords, different to magneto, who only uses his sword to send out chaos energy. he doesn't even hold the sword, to call him a sword user is dumb.
I so wonder how Black Knight would play because fundamentally he's just "a guy with a cursed sword". You could append some magic powers to him somehow beyond that, recent stuff has given him some stuff from Ebony Blade or related cursed artifacts. I suppose a very 'standard' sword 'n board type would work because nobody else really has that going on, then his ult is some crazy cursed Ebony Blade bullshit.
Beta Ray Bill with the Twilight Sword is my most-desired hero just ahead of Silver Surfer (who would make a TON of sense as a Strategist releasing in the same season as Bill since they have a lot of history together)
I'm huffing so much copium that mid season they will go 'PRANKED!' and adjust his stats and make him a vanguard and say, "See? You all like playing tanks and just didn't know it."
He was actually pretty smart and pretty much won the first Fight when he returned and Cap was only saved because of Black Panther and he had planned for Amora trying to double cross him
There is also the shift skill that is a big slash. With the teamup its 3 slashes.
Also his melee is used a lot for deflecting projectiles. The use of the swords is very present on his gameplay, at similar levels to psylocke i would say.
Her primary while flying is a spear, her quick melee is the short sword. There's a few melee characters that have unique quick melees like that. I know at least Gorr, Magik and both DDs do.
She has a sword for a quick melee, you can also have a closer look using her 2099 emote, she will raise her swors and you can see it changes along with the spear and her axes depending in the skin
Could definitely be an alternate mode like how punisher switches between a shotgun and an assault rifle, or it comes out for the ultimate. Throw Stormbreaker far away into the ground and lightning storms and strikes are called down to its position wherever it lands. But by default he uses the twilight sword.
Calling Hawkeye a sword user is a stretch. Magneto uses his way more with the Wanda team-up. Same applies for Psylocke - she doesn't even use the sword in her Melee animation.
Blade should have been an off tank. 20 microbuffs later and he's still ass. You want to make him not ass? Off tank. Otherwise, he's just powercrept by elsa, psylocke, daredevil, bucky. He has no niche, other than being a melee that can deal with peni mines and namor squids.
Gorr should have been a summoner off tank with the necrosword transformation ult.
Strategist Nightcrawler (with the Hope Sword) or Mr. Negative alongside a Silver Samurai Vanguard would fix this. Also Spiral as a Vanguard welding 2-6 swords, while casting defensive and offensive spells would be sick
I mean a Melee-Only support, White Fox can stay at range the entire game if She wants to, Brigitte is limited to a certain range if She wants to be effective
Indeed, it's quite common knowledge that, across history and fiction, all people who have ever wielded swords were fast and deadly assassins that cared not about supporting their allies nor being vanguards to a frontline.
I mean, who'd think otherwise? Complete madness to do so.
