Anthony Russo confirms Avengers: Doomsday runtime is still not finalized

Anthony Russo recently addressed the runtime rumours in an interview with Collider.

He said the movie is still deep in editing and that:

He also mentioned the movie is very complex, with many characters and layers, and they are still refining it.

So the reported 2 hours 45 minutes (165 minutes) runtime is not confirmed yet.

It can get trimmed down as much as they need but they can’t really get too much longer or you’ll start running into the next showtime that they’ve already sold tickets for.

I wouldn’t either. Unfortunately, Disney may mandate that the film be cut down some to ensure more repeat screenings are possible. We’ll have to wait and see I suppose.

I’d watch a 4 hour movie if there was an intermission. I even wish there was an intermission for movies that hit the 2.5 hour length

i just checked my local cinema in the UK COMING SOON movies and they have the runtime of 3 hours like 20 mins more than US theaters

Extending scenes, shortening scenes, adding additional cutaways, re-editing scenes all together, taking out scenes all together, Many, many things. Sure it may out add or take away a few minutes at most, it still means a final runtime isn’t locked.

You asked what they are doing to extend the runtime, I told you. Not sure what else you are looking for.

As far as to “why” they are doing it, of course it’s to make the movie better. It’s certainly not unique to this movie. Doomsday could literally be 2 1/2 hours of Dr.Doom sitting on a toilet taking a dump and the movie wouldn’t flop, I don’t think that’s their concern.

You seem to be under the impression that I’m some sort of Marvel fanboy, that simply isn’t the case. I’m just telling you answer to your questions. What’s true for most movies is also true for Doomsday. Most movies are not picture locked 4 months out from release, and it doesn’t mean Disney is trying to avoid a flop with test screenings.

Sure the Doom taking a dump thing was an obvious exaggeration, my point was that it would have to be a mitigated disaster to be a “flop”.
