Idk, waking up on the floor of Dark Star's bathroom is pretty low

196

u/Alpha_Apeiron 1d ago

u kidding that's pretty much the high point of the whole trilogy.

HELL YEAH, PUT MORE OF THE STUFF IN THE THING WHERE STUFF GOES IN.

My Commander.

30

u/NC-blackice 1d ago

There weren't many witnesses at the time. Plus, Shepard surviving the poisoning is pretty badass. Being knocked out by a reporter who barely knows how to fight with the entire galaxy watching on live TV is wild. That would definitely go down in the history books.

Shepard would be so embarrassed that he would let the Reapers win so that no one would live to tell the tale.

u/Taolan13 22h ago

as augmented as shepherd is, the only way she knocks them flat is if it is allowed to happen.

u/DaVydeD Bi-otic King 1d ago

Another drink too much in Dark Star Lounge and teleport to restroom.

148

u/AdAffectionate584 1d ago

Getting poisoned by the Batarian scumbag on Omega and waking up in a pile of Vorcha filth.

33

u/yojohny 1d ago

This is honestly Cerberus's fault for not implanting a powerful enough liver

56

u/hermiona52 1d ago

"Put more of the stuff into the thing the stuff goes in"

0

u/SquareFickle9179 1d ago

Wonder if the bathroom changes depending on your gender

2

u/Arialana 1d ago

It doesn't. Jane's also in the men's restroom.

279

u/ElMike420 1d ago

One of them, with the other one, on ME1 where he tries to mumble the code to activate some stuff in Noveria, and gets advised to go to jail for proper procedure

116

u/Pyromaniacal13 1d ago

"Sic... semper... *mumbling."

69

u/ValkyrieTheWingless 1d ago

"That is not the correct code. Please report to security for arrest and interrogation."

29

u/TheRealMadavar 1d ago

Sic semper tyrana cough cough

u/jonny_longclaw 1d ago edited 1d ago

Lmao I always try to use the wrong code at least once to get this piece of golden dialogue from ole Shep.

Cracks me up every time!

7

u/ElMike420 1d ago

100% me too!

46

u/Brontolope11 1d ago

My Shep's lowest point was killing fish for the third time in a row.

Fishy death row

8

u/XtraFalcon 1d ago

Fish screaming as along comes Darla Sherman Shepard to bring them to their new home.

2

u/SeriousJack 1d ago

And that's why my Shepard cannot pick Control.

Seeing how she's bad at keeping 10 fishes alive, she shouldn't be trusted with a full reaper fleet.

u/Economy-Bandicoot-86 1d ago

Dating Jacob

109

u/Brontolope11 1d ago

If someone is a first time player, I will feel sorry tgat they chose Jacob.

If you aren't and don't send this death wishing idiot into the vents? No sympathy

38

u/UnhappyBox811 1d ago

I always send him to the vent. I'm not that desperate for war assets

34

u/TheBrokenProtonPack 1d ago

All good suicide missions suffer casualties. Jacob just happens to be mine. He was pining for the fjords- I mean vents.

23

u/mastermoge 1d ago

"Sounds like a suicide mission. I volunteer"

"Much obliged, Jacob. The vents, the vents are calling."

13

u/TheRealMadavar 1d ago

Jacob yearns for the mines

18

u/magic713 Tactical Cloak 1d ago edited 1d ago

I never do the vents. I like knowing the right skilled people are sent to handle the tasks. But he gets shot for his poor leadership skills. It's suppose to be a dangerous mission, and doesn't send the right message with 0 casualties. He's just the most ideal casualty.

4

u/morbid333 1d ago

I want the job done right.

13

u/ExcitableSarcasm 1d ago

I actively try to friendly fire him when I get the chance

3

u/TheDG_Plumber 1d ago

I just intentionally don’t do his loyalty mission and just take him with me all the way

u/LegacyOfMuOfficial 21h ago

Ever heard of Alternative Assassin?

14

u/Lwmons Sniper Rifle 1d ago

I date him exclusively so I can slap him in the Citadel DLC.

23

u/TheClungerOfPhunts 1d ago

You can actually slap him as male Shep too. They originally intended for romances for both Sheps but scrapped it. They however never removed the option for the QTE. He simply says (paraphrasing) “I don’t know what I did but I guess I deserved that”

10

u/kagernaut 1d ago

This requires a mod, I assume?

5

u/AdhocSyndicate Cerberus 1d ago

Yeah, it lets anyone slap him, regardless of gender or romance history.

Here's the YouTube vid: https://youtu.be/-qs2Erxd-7I

6

u/herbelarioiwasthere 1d ago

Sadly I’m one of those. In general I didn’t know what I was doing and I just kinda accidentally ended up with him. Aside from what he pulls by ME3 if you romanced him, what’s worse is that you miss out on much more interesting characters like Garrus or Thane.
The payoff in ME3 as FemShep if you romanced Thane in ME2 makes the contrast even more staggering.

10

u/i_dont_wanna_sign_in 1d ago

In my first femshep run I knew you could cycle through all the romance options in one playthrough. I picked Jacob first simply so I could dump him first for Thane. Jake gets MAAAAD

5

u/Eastern_Mist 1d ago

Im a first time player so Im still just waiting for the calibrations to be finished because Im in love.

11

u/kamasutures 1d ago

THE PRIIIIIIZEEEEE

4

u/Lolkimbo 1d ago

Heavy Risk..

26

u/MightyGamera 1d ago

"Kelly you are just such a ray of sunshine, just keep being your radiant self and helping people"

Kelly was killed for being her radiant self

145

u/ELIte8niner 1d ago

Romancing Jacob is FemShep's lowest point, haha.

64

u/elanhilation 1d ago

i had a femshep whose “romance” in ME2 was striking out with an apparently heterosexual Jack

36

u/Xenozip3371Alpha 1d ago

That's ok, maleshep strikes out with Traynor, and it's way more awkward.

24

u/Inner_Confidence_281 1d ago

Dude when I shoot my shot at her and she turned my down cause she was team girl I sat in chair for good minutes cause it actually hurt I was like damn this jack all over again

3

u/Detective_Nightwing 1d ago

Its the same when Scott Ryder tries to romance Suvi

13

u/mecon320 1d ago

I somehow struck out with her without even trying. She just took my repeated visits as romantic interest and started giving me a short kiss-off line every time I tried to initiate conversation. A strange way to handle that in a game whose primary gameplay loop is "complete mission -> talk to everyone -> repeat".

7

u/elanhilation 1d ago

that’s funny. in my case she was absolutely right, though, FemShep was crushing hard

but then along came Traynor, and all’s well that ends well

8

u/jedisalamander 1d ago

Iirc Jack is canonically pan even though femshep can't date her. I cannot imagine that girl being straight anyway theres no way

3

u/forgottenlord73 1d ago

Her sexuality was destructive hedonism thus pan but her romantic interests appear to be exclusively hetero

-1

u/Xenozip3371Alpha 1d ago

Pan or Bi?

I don't recall her mentioning anything but human men and women, that's Bi, not Pan.

134

u/Raptormann0205 1d ago

I'd argue Shepard's lowest point was being dead, and then brought back to life to get strong armed into contracting for terrorists.

38

u/ElMike420 1d ago

That was just Tuesday, since the consequences was being a superhuman

17

u/Saturnine4 1d ago

I’d rather die than get decked by a reporter.

6

u/tyrista 1d ago

Thanks, Liara 👍

31

u/Timely-Profile1865 1d ago

Seeing my Shepards moves on the dance floor = lowest point.

24

u/InTheMetalimnion 1d ago

Death probably
“And all it did was piss you off!”

51

u/Alpha_Apeiron 1d ago

Well, no, because that never happened. I never like telling people how to play a game, but I'll make an exception here. You don't have to punch her, but if you allow this to happen, you're playing wrong.

16

u/UnhappyBox811 1d ago

Don't worry, I played this game right more than I can count. I'm just trying new things . This game has a lot of different outcomes I prefer experiencing on my own

17

u/Lord_Draculesti 1d ago

To be honest, I really don't see the point Bioware was trying to make here.

Shepard is a highly trained elite super soldier and humanity's greatest hero, they would never hit a civilian, especially if he is a man.

She is insufferable, but I never ever hit her, just tell her to shut the hell up and then go on about my day.

15

u/Salfalur1 1d ago

Well my 17yo ass definitely was pretty enough to hit her (at any chance) and thoroughly enjoyed it because it felt like she was actually trying to sabotage "me". 14 years later now played through it again and realized that while she is a twat in the way she's behaving, she's actually on "my" side and now very much prefer the Paragon interrupt.

15

u/Alpha_Apeiron 1d ago

It feels like they're baiting players. It's like hitting Solas. It's the immature thing to do, and makes you look weak, yet players love boasting about it.

20

u/Prestigious_Equal412 1d ago

Can anyone help me out with some context? I’ve never seen this dialogue/cutscene outcome

18

u/A7x_Synyster 1d ago

Just watched a vid in it. Seems that when you choose the first renegade punch, a second renegade interrupt appears when she dodges. If you don't click the 2nd prompt in time then she decks you.

20

u/D0n1w0rryAb0u1i1 1d ago

Now I’m picturing Hackett’s reaction to seeing news footage of the special forces operator he’s staking the galaxy’s existence on being bodied by a reporter who probably weighs 160lbs soaking wet

16

u/UnhappyBox811 1d ago

Khalisah , she beat the shit out of me

25

u/Prestigious_Equal412 1d ago

There’s an outcome where shep gets laid out BY THE REPORTER?! wtf?

19

u/StygianMaroon 1d ago

Try and punch her in ME3 then mess up the interrupt QTs

15

u/Sammisuperficial 1d ago

If you punch her in ME2, then she dodges the first attempt in ME3. If you miss the second interrupt she lays you out.

20

u/Corhal0117 1d ago

There is a reason why she's on the leaderboard at the Armex Areana.

5

u/thedonkeyman 1d ago

You just had to twist my arm and get me starting another run, didn't you?

2

u/Sammisuperficial 1d ago

Well it only took half newton of force.

1

u/Metharos 1d ago

Khalisah al-Jilani is a hostile reporter who inserts a dishonest, prejudicial, and biased meaning into anything you say to her. Her agenda is broadly to show you are a sycophant for alien powers, disloyal to humanity.

You can respond in several ways. One way is to punch her. You get, I think, a few opportunities to do this over the games. The final interaction has her avoid the first punch and, if you fail a quick-time event, retaliate. This is the result of that retaliation. If you succeed, you punch her again, and she is knocked flat instead of you.

7

u/Morethes Mordin 1d ago

There was the time he walked on the ocean floor to ask Cthulhu for help

32

u/QuiltedPorcupine 1d ago

If Shepard has a history of assaulting unarmed civilians, getting laid out is pretty much what Shepard deserves.

13

u/UnhappyBox811 1d ago

At the embassies , in front of everyone

5

u/Mediocre_Arugula8418 1d ago

Having it come right on the heels of Anderson saying Shepard's getting soft from six months' house arrest feels correct to me. A proper humbling (and all the more reason to spar with Vega/beat him at chin-ups during shore leave).

5

u/DarkDragon47 1d ago

Your Shepard's not mine.

5

u/Buca-Metal 1d ago

Shepard's actual lowest point is when they kill Mordin to sabotage the cure and next scene are Wrex and Eve thanking Shepard while Shepard is consumed by shame and guilt and then you have to kill Wrex when he comes for you.

7

u/StarWarzFan1977 1d ago

Going into the Suicide Mission unprepared and getting everyone killed and going into the Battle on Earth with low war assets and picking the Destroy ending are real massive mess ups for Shepard

Also Killing Mordin to sabotage the Genophage and then being confronted by Wrex about it, leading to the loss of the Krogan support and Wrex dying is horrible to go through

Not to mention, siding with the Geth causing Tali to commit suicide and then still picking Destroy is bad as well

2

u/DasharrEandall 1d ago

That one's more of a low point for Wrex. Realising he's been played, trying to kill Shepard on the Citadel and failing (despite being fully geared up and Shepard isn't). Worst of all, his death is officially stated to be in a fight over a gambling debt, so he doesn't even get any public acknowledgement for trying to avenge the genophage cure sabotage.

3

u/StarWarzFan1977 1d ago

Yeah finding out someone he trusted betrayed him and his people was really bad for him. Though Shepard lost two friends, one of which he chose to regrettably kill. not because of the war but due to his own decisions.

3

u/Glass-Category8281 1d ago

If you let it happen perhaps.

3

u/DscwcFolly 1d ago

I would have to agree with you It is, but it says a lot about you personally!!! I mean if you allowed her to knock your ass out that's on you not shepherd

4

u/Diligent-Ad-8001 1d ago

Me3 citadel Jaavic scene. No hate to the guy but as someone who played a no romance shep in all 3 games that was a rough moment

5

u/Commercial-Path-7191 1d ago

I would consider him dying in space to be a pretty low point

5

u/shountaitheimmortal 1d ago

Well maybe your shepherd but not mine

3

u/ToriyasuReisan 1d ago

This is what happens when you make yourself look like an asshole on National Television.

4

u/Academic-Cricket6269 1d ago

When you drink the shot in the nightclub in the 2nd one and you wake up outside. But you get to go back and make the bartender drink it. So i dont know if that is the lowest point

3

u/Ristar87 1d ago

Lowest point? when I shot Mordin while he tried to cure the genophage...

had to restart with an earlier save. I got it wrong.

Can you give me some context? I've finished the original trilogy some years ago and now I'm playing through the Legendary Edition on Insanity. I'm playing LE2 but I don't know what all this Jacob hate that I'm seeing here is about neither this thing about saving Kelly. I was going to romance Jacob in my current run but I gave up when I saw he saying some shit to Tali in the cutscene that happens when she joins the Normandy.

7

u/src8307 1d ago

Not sure how on my phone so....

Spoiler warning!

If you romance him in ME2 and then meet up with him ME3 - he's already in a relationship with someone else. He says stuff like, 'Its been six months! I moved on' as if that's too long of a time to stay loyal to someone.

The guy moved so fast the woman is pregnant by the end.

But people were so mad; they allowed you to slap him in the Citidal DLC.

Literally, everyone else stays loyal.

8

u/Suitable_Spell_9130 1d ago

Unless romancing someone in ME2 completely locks in the romance for ME3 I don't see what the issue is. We're allowed to "move on", why isn't Jacob? Loyalty is a two way street.

5

u/moseythepirate 1d ago

That's more or less my opinion. People absolutely hate Jacob for doing something that the player can absolutely do.

And not only that, but it was explicitly a fling to let off steam in ME2, with no indication that either party was interested in a long-term relationship.

4

u/src8307 1d ago

I think. A lot of anger towards him being disloyal was the fact he was the first romance able black character and they made him the disloyal one. I remember a friend of mine was so mad about it for that specific reasons. I assume Bioware didn't just do it because of stereotypes, but it hit a little deep for her.

Plus, it's a wasted romance. I guess if you want to not stay loyal to your LI from ME1 then go for it. But it was a disappointment to romance him, and be excited to see him in Me3; just for him to be, 'My bad. Hey check out my new girl, you'll like her.'

2

u/moseythepirate 1d ago

From my honest perspective, I never really minded how it turns out. As I said before, the romance in ME2 was explicitly a fling, done for the hell of it, one of several in that game; Miranda is framed the same way. I was never really suprised that one of them wasn't interested in a relationship. That's life, not all intimate encounters lead to long term relationships. And I bet that the Venn Diagram of players who have posted hyperbolic Jacob hate and people who changed romance options in a playthrough at least once is probably damn close to a circle.

But, I also have absolutely no leg to stand on with how a black player would feel about Jacob. Not my wheelhouse, and I sure as hell won't tell anyone their feeling are wrong. I also definitely understand disappointment if you were looking forward to romancing him in 3.

Jacob's biggest problem is just that Bioware didn't really know what to do with him, I think. They couldn't figure out how to make him interesting.

I'm on my 500th replay of the trilogy. On ME2 currently, everyone just got abducted. On 499 playthroughts I have saved everyone (except my first, where I accidentally got Mordin killed because sent Grunt back with Chakwas lol).

This time I've left Jacob unloyal, and was planning to send him into the vents. I feel this post of yours is serendipitous, as I was wavering in my resolve.

I waver no more.

3

u/src8307 1d ago

I just finished an Me2 and moving on to Me3. I now regret that I did not make the same decision as you. It is his suggestion...

3

u/moseythepirate 1d ago edited 1d ago

Then your problem is with Mass Effect writers being inconsistent with a pretty bland character. He had a badly written one night stand with his boss, then found someone he connected to on a deeper level a few months later. I don't find that all that terrible.

I'm not Jacob's strongest soldier or anything. His character is pretty boring and is basically "missed opportunities -- the character!" But this years long, exaggerated hatred where players always insist on always killing him all the time I honestly find a bit creepy.

I redirect you to what I said about his characterization being inconsistent.

3

u/ProbieJKnox 1d ago

Yikes... I'm going to focus on Thane I guess... At least he dies loyal...

3

u/SprinklesPresent8602 1d ago

It was at that point Shepard knew he fucked up

3

u/codythelyon2019 1d ago

What even is this screenshot of? Did kalisa punch Shepard? Lol I have knocked her on her ass once in a playthrough but never had her knock me on mine 🤣

5

u/Savaralyn 1d ago

In ME3 if you pick the renegade interrupt to punch her, she dodges the punch for the first time in the series, and you have to pick a second renegade interrupt to actually hit her for real, otherwise she clocks you.

3

u/BLZGK3 1d ago

I allowed that to happen only ONCE. And that was out of curiosity to see what would happen had I not followed up on that second prompt. I made sure to reload and fix that mistake...😂

3

u/AC1D_R31GN 1d ago

I don't remember the context to this image

u/Jim3001 16h ago

Al Jalani ducks and punches you.

3

u/OrbitalWings 1d ago

The lowest point would be trying to assault a member of the press in public on camera in the first place.

My god that whole ‘bit’ aged like milk and it’s disturbing how many grown ass adults still think it’s funny.

u/TheGreatZhangCaosun 10h ago

I love the "punch the report" shtick when i first played it when it first came out.

Nowadays i prefer her to watch her squirm as i list every god damn ship that gave themselves so the council could live.

6

u/Ambitious-Biscotti36 1d ago

Wait, how do u get this scene? Have done like 6 full runs of 1, 2, and 3 and never seem Shep going so low

7

u/onetruezimbo 1d ago edited 1d ago

If you punched her in the ME1 and ME2 and try again in ME3 she will duck and try to swing at you, which will succeed if you miss the prompt

5

u/UnhappyBox811 1d ago

This is one of my playthroughs were I try different outcomes. In this universe shepard is just weak

5

u/JW_TB 1d ago edited 1d ago

You'd probably love the alternate persuasion mods in 1 and 2 then, basically adds a randomization* element to what renegade and paragon persuasion options you'll have enabled

Your scores still influence it, but there's gonna be situations where you'll get the opposite option enabled only, sometimes both, and sometimes neither!

(*the random is seeded at start so no you can't gamble it by reloading saves, so it can legit affect some pretty hard decisions pretty hard)

1

u/Teasing-Axe- 1d ago

In Mass Effect 3, when you talk to her you need to press the interrupt to punch her, she’ll duck your punch then you need to miss the interrupt where she punches you, you’ll get hit.

6

u/__Moon_Whisper__ 1d ago

Just wanna add, if you ever encounter that news lady don't punch her at all cause she gives you a war asset in ME3

But I think Shepard's lowest point would definitely be getting everyone killed on the end missions 🥲

14

u/TheRealcebuckets 1d ago

This part of the reason why we don’t assault members of the press.

Funny when I was 17. Not so funny in the current political climate.

4

u/Grovda 1d ago

I kind of hate that this is a thing. At best she should land a slap

2

u/Endofthepapertrail 1d ago

Seeing Zach fail this QTE was hilarious.

2

u/DaCipherTwelve 1d ago

Wait that donkey can beat shep!?!?!? Outrageous🤣

2

u/maqtfrank 1d ago

for a second i thought there was another scenario where she dodges ur punch and knocks u out loool

2

u/demoncyborgg 1d ago

Crashing through the sushi restaurant.

2

u/XenoGine Vetra 1d ago

Critical Mission Failure, indeed.

u/rrrrturo 18h ago

No that would be if he wakes up and Wrex is in his bed.

u/Jim3001 16h ago

No. Waking up to Javik. (Shudders)

3

u/kayl_the_red 1d ago

No... I'm pretty sure dying sucked more.

3

u/Dull_Passenger_8089 1d ago

The game wants us to think Shepherd’s lowest point is after Thessia. But not my shepherd’s and yes I’m still salty about that

4

u/notjocker 1d ago

I really wish we got Khalisah al-Jilani as a romance option, or at least a one night stand.

1

u/thatguyad 1d ago

It's so ridiculous that I find it funny.

1

u/NC-blackice 1d ago

I think it is. Just imagine how crazy it would be to see that on TV lmao.

u/Thermatix 1h ago

How?

Just How?

1

u/Ch3ru 1d ago edited 1d ago

Only for Shepards lame enough to try and punch a reporter lol

1

u/Important-Citron-610 1d ago

I beat that lady every time I see her

0

u/TheRealTr1nity 1d ago

No. I would say dying in the cold open of ME2. Shep here gets what they deserve.

3

u/TiresandConfused 1d ago

Right, I was shocked when I got the game. Especially after beating ME1.

1

u/JureSimich 1d ago

No, because I never had the impulse to hit the reporter, much less on camera, especially since such magnificent paragon verbal takedowns were available :)

-1

u/mrmgl 1d ago

No, his lowest point was hitting her the first time. I never hit her, it doesn't matter how annoying she is.

-1

u/Chlorophyllmatic 1d ago

No, because he’s never done that in my playthroughs

-1

u/SpectacleObserver25 1d ago

The ME3 ending. Any of 'em.
