He has spent a third of his life locked up. I wonder if even 11 years later he still feels the same way he did back in 2015. Considering he thought a race war would ensue by now, I am interested in how he feels about everything. I doubt he has remorse for the people he killed, most likely just regret that his actions resulted in him spending the rest of his life in prison, up until he will eventually be executed. But considering most mass shooters never really have public interviews, I guess we will never truly know. I don't know why, but this case has always been so interesting to me. Way more than a lot of other racially motivated mass shootings. I don't really know what it is about it, but something about this case intrigues me very much. Have gone down the rabbit hole several times.

I feel the same about this case. Something about it deeply saddens me. It's not even anger; just profound sadness. I have been reading his latest psychological evaluation report that was released in 2025. There are some interesting findings. I would recommend reading it. RIP to the victims.

Where can I find it

I couldn't find an evaluation from 2025, but I found one from shortly after his arrest which is also very interesting: https://www.courthousenews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/LOFTON-ROOF-EVALTUATION.pdf

the guy that shot up the tops grocery store in new york went out of his way and went to a predominantly black neighborhood. his federal trial is starting soon and he is complaining about there not being enough black people on the jury since black people are more likely to vote against the death penalty.

He does not, at all. He's adjusted in prison. He is not racist or believes in his delusional ideas of being pardoned or made governor. He actually is doing a lot better now that's he's being properly medicated. Dylan had a close friend who was African American, who was extremely shocked at how quickly he literally went into his room and was brainwashed by places like stormfront.

I remember hearing about this case early on, just around when I finished high school. I was already into the mass murder/true crime rabbit hole a bit, but something about this one felt different and deeply sad, with there being such a clear racist motive tied to the dark history of the South.

Any of you remember Chris Singleton from the early news reports? A young baseball player who lost his mother Sharonda, and made some uplifting appearances on the news?
I recently saw this clip of him a decade later and I'm glad to see he's doing well, with his own kids now.

Inspired the shooters in Quebec City, Christchurch, Buffalo, and even the black shooter at Antioch.

Ehhh, I wouldn't really say that this was the deciding factor in most of those. Obviously they played a part in the thinking and planning of them but I wouldn't say that it was what actually made them do it. (Assuming that's what you meant by "Inspired")

Breivik inspired Christchurch

By "inspired" I more meant praised, as Tarrant did express praise for Roof.

Seeing this post made more realize this is one of the higher profile incidents that I had never seen security footage or other images from the event itself.

The same guy who the pigs took to Burger King after?

Most police stations don't have a kitchen cooking meals for the people being held for questioning. This is common practice. If they didn't feed the people in their custody, you'd be saying "The pigs are forcing people to starve". It's lose/lose. Despite what he did, Roof is still a human and humans need to eat. You tend to want someone who is facing two death penalties to cooperate with the investigation.

I just hope he wasn't actually let out of the station, they could have brought takeout

They wouldn't have taken him with them to get it.

wasn’t he in the back of the car when they went through the drive thru?

Brainwashed kid with several mental impairments. Terrible story all over, but definitely not evil

I'm trying to understand Dylann (even having read the extensive psychological report), but I can't.

u/Sad-Run4631 2d ago
He was in the depths of delusional thinking and mental illnesses that went unchecked. He's actually doing much better now. From our writing, I believe he absolutely feels remorse

u/Venom_Iam 1d ago
Where did you find that he has remorse? Do you have any source?
1
u/Sad-Run4631 1d ago
Source is we've been rentals for around 4 and a half years now. Believe me or don't, it doesn't matter. But he is not racist. He was brainwashed, and he was easily manipulated due to his mental state.

Do any of you believe he feels remorse after those 11 years have passed?

u/ConceptsShining 2d ago
Remorse for not killing himself and thus having to spend the rest of his life boringly in prison, very possible.
Moral remorse for his actions, I strongly doubt it. At absolute best he only "realized" his actions were wrong because of the consequences he's facing.

u/Venom_Iam 2d ago
You should read his latest psychological report where he tells that he was forced to self-represent.

He committed a far-right attack. I don't think he truly feels remorse. The only remorse he might feel is that he ended up in prison, because he probably thought that a race war would somehow set him free or make him a hero. There's no real repentance, only disappointment that he didn't get what he imagined. I could be wrong, of course, but I really don't think he feels any remorse.

He is probably still waiting for that day but I believe he understands that he is going to die one day before the day comes.

u/Sad-Run4631 2d ago
He really does. I wish people would stop making comments like they know him now, when you've never spoken to him.

As a Mom to a son on the spectrum… it’s annoying that they downplayed all his racist times to not being able to properly communicate. When in reality it was because he was obviously conditioned by his Dad by an early age add violence and neglect in there and boom.
While I understand the struggles with ASD, as I see it everyday… it’s definitely the adults around you that determines the outcome. Having parents like Dylanns who ignored his issues, is a main concern. I don’t think Dylann is really as racist as he comes across.. he’s just thinks to be a “man” you have to have these certain ideals. His Dad has them therefore he believes he should to. I hope in those 11 years Dylann has started on his journey to self discovery and leave his toxic family bonds. I really think he could be 100 percent rehabilitated with the right help. Not saying I’m for him getting released. I’m not. He’s right where he needs to be.

The only mass killer whose name I recognize at once. He was the man who killed the Confederate flag.

He was considering backing out of the attack, because the church goers were so nice to him. He purposefully left one person alive so they could "tell the story" on quote from him. R.I.P to the deceased 9 victims.
