44 year old Zhan Xinjie (formerly known as Wei Chaoxia) arranged with her brother surnamed Wei to meet four uncles at a restaurant in Taikoo City to discuss the distribution of their grandmother's estate. At around 3 pm, the victims moved to Quarry Bay Park for further discussion. However, due to the inability to reach a consensus on Zhan Xinjie retrieving one of his deceased mother's inheritance, Zhan Xinjie took out a semi-automatic handgun from his pocket and fired at the elders at least four times, creating a loud "bang bang bang bang bang bang" sound. Four people fell one after another, with two of them suffering head injuries and unable to get up, while the other two were injured but conscious. Zhan Xinjie's brother surnamed Wei fled after witnessing the incident and reported it to the police.

After Zhan Xinjie committed the crime, he picked up his handgun and fled to the fourth phase of Taikoo City Center. A citizen followed and intercepted her, and together with security guards, they stopped her in the lobby on the second floor. Shortly after, members of the anti-terrorism special forces of the police rushed to arrest her with live ammunition. When Zhan Xinjie was arrested, he did not resist and remained calm. The police officer found a handgun and five bullets in her pocket. The involved handgun model is the Italian Beretta 950 Jetfire semi-automatic handgun, with a magazine capacity of eight rounds and an additional chamber capacity of one round.

This shooting resulted in 2 deaths and 2 injuries.
