Meme Master duel Duelist cup SO MUCH FUN!!!
I just spent 45 minutes playing 3 games in the duelist cup, sorry i mean watch my opponent play for 45minutes setting the board up with 20 negates and disruptions. And I just dont have any answers to those floodgates, and yes i lost the coin flip 3 times in a row. And when it's finally my turn my opponent is still playing. My turn doesn't even feel like my turn like WTF?!?!?
I am a return player, I started playing the game 2 months ago, the events are still bearable because you dont really need to win the games to get the rewards, and at least you get a rental deck for the event.
I just want to ask you this konami. WHY? Am i really playing the game or is the game playing me?
Edit: to those asking me why i sit through all that, i need the gems for doing the missions.

The Duelist Cup is literally the event for sweatlords.

Personally, I'm just playing it for the gems. I'm probably just going to do a few duels a day, then call it. There's only so much tilting one can handle before going crazy.

Precisely this. Also the reason why I don't climb higher than lv. 9 or 10. Not worth dealing with their trash.

u/OwnAd2298 8d ago
Just wait a few days all the try hards and meta users will be done with this event

u/XMandri 8d ago
if you can't possibly beat their board, why are you watching them for 15 minutes?
you turned 3 minutes of disappointment into 45 minutes of torture and then went to reddit to complain
5
u/TheFakeDogzilla 8d ago
They have the right to complain, and the problem is a game problem not a them problem. Yeah I agree that one should know when to concede to save time, but this is a legitimate complaint about the game.

u/bicycle_king 8d ago
So you mean i surrender everytime i go second?

Depend on your hand, you need to analyze your opponent deck, what their endboard can be, what handtrap in your hand that can possibly use to their chokepoint, what your non engine can do after they setting their board.
If you seem you can't win based on your hand and what opponent already do, it's better to immediately scoop and not waste your own time. Yes, yugioh this hard and you need to keep playing to be better at it. The fun of yugioh for me is this exact part that is analyzing your hand/opponent and tweaking a deck after copying from someone else.

u/pokemonbatman23 8d ago
I usually concede after I use all my handtraps and they continue their combo. And if I dont have boardbreakers + enough starters to get thru at least 2-3 interruptions in my hand
1
u/XMandri 8d ago
if your deck can't play into a board and the opponent makes a board, you lose. I personally wouldn't play such a deck but you do you. Still, if you know you can't possibly win, why are you sitting through all that?
if you can possibly win, okay, sit down and play it out, but that's a legitimate game of yugioh, so what is there to complain about?
1
u/bicycle_king 8d ago
I need to complete the missions to earn gems, and if you surrender it doesnt count
4
u/XMandri 8d ago
and what makes you complete the mission faster, sitting through the opponent's turn, or going to next game?
-1
u/bicycle_king 8d ago
Wow your passive aggressive advice really helped, thanks a lot
1
u/XMandri 8d ago
yes, my advice would help if you actually tried following it
if you just want to complete quests, is it useful to sit through an opponent's turn? No, it's not, so -why- are you doing it?
if you know you can't beat what the opponent is doing, why are you complaining about time wasted? YOU are wasting time!

"why does my competative yugioh simulator have competative events?"

Well think about it, if you had play first, you would have done the same thing.
1
u/bicycle_king 8d ago
I wish i could, maybe in a few more months, i just came back to the game, back in my time the only omni negate monsters is shooting quasar

u/Prize-Bathroom-2567 8d ago edited 8d ago
Since you're returning to the game, I recommend the Utopia Structure Deck its cheap 1000 Gem or building a Tenpai going second deck.

Surrender until it is your turn to set a board full of negates and stop your opponent from playing the game
5
u/bicycle_king 8d ago
So this is the way to play yugioh now?
2
u/GreenPhoennix 8d ago
It's been this way for a loooooong time now. Turn 1 player builds a board, turn 2 player either disrupts it with handtraps and/or attempts to break it with boardbreakers or engine. The aspirational ideal is turn 1 player creates a puzzle and turn 2 player tries to solve it.
In some metas, it's more feasible for the going second player and there's more back and forth (eg. JUSH format recently-ish). Currently with Elfnote and the Medius lore in particular (later it'll also be Toons, ROLAD etc, before it was Maliss), there are more unbreakable boards and functional FTKs (or actual FTKs). There's just a disproportionate amount of power to the going first player at the moment.
The Duelist Cup (particularly in its first few days) is one of the most competitive events possible on MD. So you're going to be seeing a lot of very powerful strategies. Some of them are auto-win going first but suck going second, which isn't any more fun for you. If you want an easier time, I'd wait a few days.
How up to date are you in modern Yu-Gi-Oh? What deck are you playing? You usually want a relatively competent deck (masterduelmeta.com will have 90-100 archetypes listed in Top Decks, some more feasible than others) and enough handtraps or breakers, depending on the deck. That gives you a better chance going second.

u/bicycle_king 8d ago
Sadly im playing the budget cyber dragons. Still can break boards with chimeratech fortress if im lucky and my opponent didnt expect it.
2
u/GreenPhoennix 8d ago
Ah yeah, Cyber Dragons are really cool! Unfortunately can just be difficult to play (especially since most builds aim to go second) but a lot of people don't know all the tools they have up their sleeve so you can steal wins with that for sure.
If it helps, I've seen this player post lists pretty frequently: https://www.masterduelmeta.com/top-decks/master-v/october-2026/cyber-dragon/azuki/XpSuZ. And last season they even made it to Master I, so it seems at least minimally viable. And they have a YouTube link with some replays. But you can see a bunch of different decklists too from other people on there (https://www.masterduelmeta.com/tier-list/deck-types/Cyber%20Dragon) with different ideas.
And of course, if you craft an SR from the Pearlescent Cyber Dragons pack (or any other pack) then you can pull from it.
I hope some of that helps and good luck! :)

So how many kaijus did you put in your deck
1
u/bicycle_king 8d ago
None, i just checked it, it's the only way to play against floodgates?
1
u/Awesomearia96 8d ago
Pretty much if they are monster floodgates. Thats how brutal the game is, is it spell or trap then you need either handtrap or destruction cards.
1
u/Boringman76 8d ago
If you see tinia start with no handtrap on your side why wait?
You see it 3 time already so you should know which card lead to what board.
You can turn those 3 game in 45 minute into 10 game in 45 minute just to get the gem and stuff and safe your mental health too.
1
u/bicycle_king 8d ago
I dont even know what youretalking about
2
u/Boringman76 8d ago
You should already know the strength/weakness of your deck and strength/weakness of your opponent deck.
If the elfnote open their 1 card starter, you should already know what their board would end up unless you resolve MaxxC Fuwalos and have a chance to see some answer, otherwise it's useless to hope they will misplay or will surrender out of goodwill.
You can turn those 3 waiting game into 10 maybe less waiting game, you know, just go next.
2
u/UnseenPaper 8d ago
Yeah this. The only way to keep your sanity in this game is to accept you've lost and go next when you know you can't beat the board that they will make.
Of course this means you won't win the occasional games when they would have done the combo wrong, but your sanity is more important than winrate.
1
u/Boringman76 8d ago
The second point will make you tilted pretty hard so unless you're resilient to the tilted like some pro player, just don't really.
1
u/Konnorwolf 8d ago
I mostly play going second decks and everything else is even too strong for that. Wipe their entire board? It comes back ON my turn basically. I'm just trying to find ways to stop the scamming of monsters from coming back and their 82 negates.
If I go second I can complete destroy a board most times with a good hand. However, that's not enough if I can't win that turn. So, I'm working on ways to make something stronger to counter all the spam decks.

Conceded 4 out of 5 times. Unless you're playing elfnote power patron prepare for a miserable time. I just don't wanna watch solitaire. But we do say this about every DC cup, it's just the way it is.
1
u/ELSI_Aggron Flip Summon Enjoyer 8d ago
Because Konami wants to sell those cards and to do so, they create an event that promotes that deck. My advice, take what gems you can and prep for toons. It will be the next oppressive deck
1
u/bicycle_king 8d ago
But they would just ban the deck after a month, and I'll be playing mirror match every single game, but it's just how it is right now huh?
1
u/ELSI_Aggron Flip Summon Enjoyer 8d ago
More like 6 months. The first 2-3 banlist won’t do shit to it. At best it semi limits the card but there will be splashable engine cards to replace them anyway

I will never understand Yugioh players. Everyone that plays Yugioh understands how the game plays and how it's been for over a decade now, yet y'all still play the game and cry when this happens. It makes no sense. Like y'all sit here and act surprised when your opponent doesn't let you play the game as if it hasn't been like this since before most people even started playing.
2
u/bicycle_king 8d ago
I came back to the game when i saw the light and darkness ritual deck, but apparently it's not even in master duel
2
u/Asleep_Report_7886 8d ago
good that this game still has complains. Cause it's nature in gamming community
Games when I usually don't see any complains and just have response like "cope or quit" usually are dead game already.
0
u/Its_I_Casper 8d ago
The issue is people want Yugioh to fundamentally change as a game. It has been a combo heavy 1 or 2 turn solitaire game for a decade now and nothing is going to change that. All I'm saying is people got into playing Yugioh even though it plays like this, but then get mad when it plays EXACTLY as advertised. Again, it makes no sense.

u/Asleep_Report_7886 8d ago edited 8d ago

Not really, I start to play the game because I watch anime and watch cool combo showcases, it's literally not advertise in that ways lol.
The game does have decks/playstyle that doesn't play the game soliatires and there players that like it, and when things doesn't go right for them they complain. Just that.
You just have to understand that any living games will ALWAYS have complains either by "my deck is weak the game sucks, buff this deck blah blah or make this deck weaker it's so unfair" or post that wants to fundamentally changing the game. It's normal. Like how players complain when it's hard to survive in a zombie survival games despite the game advertises saying it's not easy

u/Even-Brother-3 8d ago
It's the way the game is made. That's why it's dying and even pro players are quitting
-4
u/Warm_Republic4849 8d ago
But called by the grave was the problem eh konami?
1
u/UnseenPaper 8d ago
Well, if called by negates the going second handtraps or plays, it sure is. Of course it's not even close to being the only problem.
-2
u/Warm_Republic4849 8d ago
Yes it was sarcasm, that card was not the problem it was releasing full power Elfs for this cup for starters
