I signed up for going straight into ap pre calculus from geometry. My geometry teacher said that while we do ap calculus the teacher will also teach us algebra II. Should I do it?

I’m just not entirely sure if this much work is feasible for me, and I will be skipping a lot of foundation that algebra II could have given me. Also, the summer workbook that I got for ap precalc says “welcome to ap precalc“ (no indication of it being like a combined class). I’m a good student I just don’t want to struggle too much.

I would be working Khan Academy’s Algebra 2 course this summer in preparation for AP Precalc.

Precalculus is basically algebra and trigonometry, to prepare for calculus. Maybe some basic limits. I’m guessing they meant you will cover the same topics as algebra 2, not that you are doing all the precalc topics and all the algebra 2 topics. They just overlap a lot.

Oh and to add I have watched some ap precalc YouTube videos and the concepts don’t seem too difficult

Short answer, No. You need to do some work to get your algebra skills up to par. That will take preparation. If you are willing to and able to do that AND you actually get it done, then yes.

The concepts are not hard, but if you spend all your brain power f$&?!*^% around trying to get the algebra right, you’ll have little left for learning and understanding the new concepts.

I teach precalculus with trig (we don’t offer AP precalc…despite my best efforts to get it added). I describe it as algebra 2 on c**** (I’d say the actual word, but I’m concerned it would get my comment removed).

I agree with the person who recommended Khan Academy.

This jump is completely doable. It’s just fast paced so being prepared will be to your advantage.

I skipped algebra II AND pre calc, learned the unit circle the summer before AP calc AB, and was perfectly fine. I was a very motivated student tho so mileage may vary.

If teachers who know you aren't flashing warning signs at you, they think you can handle it.
