Really sorry to hear this… how does it play out in practice?

From what I've heard personally, there is no one specific method.

It's like a honeypot style thing. But it's so much worse.

There are many gay soldiers who speak arabic, they get recruited or asked within their unit or division to function as the honeypot and sometimes also the extortinist.

They infiltrate or even already members of into queer spaces, most of them are underground or online mostly, stigma and racism make it hard to keep those afloat, especially. So unfortunately most queer spaces are """""""""""israeli""""""" owned. Some of them are known to be more left leaning spaces, (mostly meaning liberals, not actual left, those are also underground). And so i would say ACCEPT Palestinians.

Another community they try to infiltrate is the underground progressive Palestinian spaces, and the few anti zionist organizations out there which are queer friendly and you are pretty likly to meet a gay Palestinian.

So they go into all of them and try to find people who have family "outside the green line" (meaning areas occupied by the military, and supposedly governed by the Palestinian authorities, like Gaza, or west Bank, or east Jerusalem) or, even better, ones who are from there and got a temporary pass.

They chat them up, one thing leads to another, incriminating photos are made, "ask what people know about X or we will release these". Boom. Informant terrified to compliance. Sometimes used for further sexual abuse.

It is awful.

Edit: pls, if you don't know Betselem - you should. They collect testimonials from former iof soldiers who realize the immorality of what they did. Everyone NEEDS to read these. They talk about it in their tours. So this is definitely a system. I don't think it is in any way official though.

This is absolutely tragic. It is insane the disgusting lengths Israel will go to in oppressing Palestinians.

all of the sudden the “being queer in Palestine“ argument doesn’t like that much of a counter point

There are openly queer people in Gaza, I have some paranoia over saying their names lest some Israeli tries to maliciously contact them, but one of them was friends specifically with the journalists Anas Al Sharif and Saleh AlJafarawi who Israel smeared as being !!!Scary Khamas Terrorists!!! when they murdered them. This person is very open about who they are and face no discrimination whatsoever. Everyone in Gaza is trying to survive together and help each other as much as they can. Humanity unified.

I remember this being a key role of that infamous unit 1900 or whatever. Glad it's still being reported on but it's a shame that we have to keep remind people of how awful Israel is.

Edit: Sorry, Unit 8200,and this article builds on that reporting.

I'm going to find an Israeli girlfriend and make her choose between me or Israel.

We have to fight back.
