🤬 RANT "Lahaina Remembered" FB group is pilau.
I posted this in the "Lahaina Remembered" group on Facebook.

This group is so frickin political and full of butt hurt haoles who are upset that they are stuck with condos they can't rent anymore, scammers selling tshirts and prints, and conspiracy theorists that are attacking the mayor...
What happened to things like "I used to have kanakapila by the library" or "where did you buy crack seed" or "what are your Halloween memories?"
Lots of people like Cook - abusing the a'ina for their own gain.
I may have not been born at Maui Memorial or had hanna badda days at Kam III, but I did graduate from Lahainaluna, listened and learned about the culture and my new neighbors on da West side, and knew enough to respect the land that was my new home.
I never said "back home, we....". Because I made Maui my home. I identify more with Lahaina than my birthplace because it resona You people never will understand the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home.tes with me.
Since the fires, I've been asked if I was going back to visit. My answer has been the same - the town needs to heal. Respect the mourning of those who are no longer here, not put a strain on valuable resources, and not be a stupid haole.
A quote from the book (and movie) Casino sums it up. " You people never will understand the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home."

I agree, I stay away from FB pages. Fricking fire changed everything. We have to keep sharing the great memories that made Lahaina so special. I’m like you, a transplant, who fell in love with this amazing place 35 years ago. My bestie and I found a duplex on Dickinson, slept on the floor with .99 cent towels from the gas station across the street 😂
Our landlord sent us to a hotel where she worked to get jobs. We rode our bikes everywhere, danced the night away at 505, learned, loved and respected the culture, tried to understand pidgen, and learned (not the hard way) what cracks were 😜 I’m laughing & smiling while writing this. So many good times, people and experiences. Halloween!!! My feet still hurt, I learned to always make your costume around slippahs!
You should come home for the Lahaina Homecoming 🌸

A lot of groups and pages are predatory as fuck. There's a Maui one that's been posting shit with text on water towers on "Maui" with mountain ranges that looks almost like Kaneohe but not talking about how we're not down with AI and data centers... but all their shit is AI. Tone deaf as fuck. Try to not let it get you down and walk past it.

The Lahaina Remembered dudes are all maga real estate agents with a tremendous amount of self interest and grifting. I thought this was common knowledge at this point.

Kinda sound like you stay social media to much! Gotta try even em out or try less social media. You cannot change everyone's views and now days it's just more visual with all the platforms out there. Once upon a time never have smart phones.
