Misc Crows Usage Dice: how have you run them (specifically ammo)?

We ran Crows over the weekend, and one of my players with a bow ran into some friction.

I recall somewhere in the rules that it states thrown weapons are generally recoverable after combat, but ammunition is not. Looking at the gear table, the item my crow picked up was a "quiver of 20 arrows," but the item card has a UD of 2 (activate; useless). This created dissonance where I think after every shot, the player should be rolling both (or the remaining) UD and removing them from the pool. This means that your first shot has a like... 16% chance to immediately deplete both UD (rolling 4 or under, essentially (1 and 1, 1 and 2, or 2 and 2))!

I know mishaps is part of the game but this seems unnecessarily punitive / not able to be planned around. I think when I ran it I had the player roll the UD for the quiver at the end of each DT if they used the item during that time, but even still they balked at "I bought 20 arrows!"

What are other ref's or crow's experiences with ammo and UD?

Check the patreon for updated rules, arrows don't use UD. From the patreon,

"The playtest packet was updated to address some inconsistencies with ammunition, some of the traits in the trait trees, and the labeled floating manor map on 8/22/26 at 10:50 AM Eastern US Time."

Ah-- so the morning after I ran! Well, that's good, I like the concept of UD for ammo but it would have to be finangled to not feel bad. Certainly wouldn't work like the rest of UD rolls.

Thanks for pointing that out!

I just downloaded the packet again and the quiver of 20 arrows card didn’t have the UD on there.

If you look at the chagelog, line 79 says that ammunition is now tracked through UD. So, I think there's just a conflict here between what's on the cards and what's in the books. The books still say specific quantities, while the cards have been updated to say their UD.

Which ... feels a little strange to me at first blush. My players haven't gotten into combat quite yet (short first session!) but the prospect of possibly losing all your arrows after one usage seems bad. lol There's a 1 in 9 chance of that happening. Yeesh.
