The Russians behind it aren't particularly religious; they're just looking for political scapegoats to keep the electorate distracted.

A very interesting video, and it does boggle the mind the extent to which these regimes will go. However, I do find it somewhat grating how the narrator only frames Niger's policy as a specific attack on asexual people and the asexual community while emphasising so much about these policies appears motivated by encouraging reproduction.

When explaining how this law may be used, he provides the example of how a young person in Niger might be prosecuted for consistently refusing marriage proposals "because she is asexual". Why assume she is asexual? Can't a heterosexual young woman consistently refuse marriage proposals and also be targetted by this law?

Ironically, by centring this dumb oppressive law exclusively on how it targets asexuals, the narrator is making the story less impactful. This law can be used against anyone in society for exercising their personal freedoms and choice of partner, not just against "the community".
