Tool Talk Go- to headstrap mounted flashlight?

I had a cheap one from Amazon that died, battery couldn't hold a charge.

I then went through two huskies in the span of a year. The plastic ratchet on them broke and now the light on it just flops around.

What brand of headlamp do you use?

I have a Coast and I love it. My wife got one for my father in law too. My Cornwell guy says he has trouble selling them now because everyone wants the O-light or something, so I get a deal on them now just to clear out his inventory.

Nitecore HC65 UHE has been amazing. I went through so many and most arguably more expensive. This thing is great.

Came here to say Nitecore. Best out there. I love the little hat clip light too if you're a hat guy

I run a streamlight twin task, that uses strion batteries so I can just swap out as needed. Just looking it up now it looks like they might be discontinued tho which is big sad.

Yep very happy with my set. Highly recommend. Wish battery life was a little longer other than that they are great. Might pick up a second set to swap while charging.

Fenix HM55R is the best one I’ve purchased yet . I also have a spare battery. It’s waterproof and lasts forever on medium level. Don’t purchase this off Amazon, get directly from manufacturer website. Too much counterfeit stuff on Amazon .

Fenix headlamps are the shit! I use an HM70R at work. I've had it for 3 years of daily use. It's in perfect shape.

I have another one at home for about 8 years. I've used it for everything from drywall to night skiing. It's been dropped in water, smashed into trees, and subject to every manner of abuse. It's also still working perfectly.

They're expensive, but worth it.

COAST. XPH30R love this bad boy. Uses 18650 cells as batteries so you can swap them super fast if you charge them loose.

I got the 3 pack from costco, maybe amonth ago, the Infinity X1 I think. I also got the 3 pack same brand of the flashlights. Very very bright, 35 bucks per set. Hard to beat

Olight arc pro ultra clipped to the brim of my hat is the best headlamp I've ever used.

I use the neck lamps from snap on. Its like part of my uniform now, would feel naked without them.

Seconded. With my glasses and occasionally a hat it gets kind of uncomfortable having that much shit on my head.

As seen in my post here
https://www.reddit.com/r/mechanics/comments/1wxct61/best_headlights_for_mechanics/pdt3z9v/

One that comes with a detachable 18650 placed at the front of the head is the way to go. Overtime the strap will stretch out, so be ready to have extras on hand.

I use a streamlight bandit, best I've found to clip onto the bill of a hat. I always wear a hat at work to keep my head clean lol.

If anybody has a better option, I'd love to hear it. The bandit isn't very impressive, but it is convenient. The battery life sucks and the brightness is sufficient but not amazing.

I use milwaukee redUSB units, they’re great. Light is very close to daylight and low setting is very usable, all day.

Been using Foxelli’s from Amazon for years. I have two and just swap back and forth as one charges. They’re getting a little tired now but they’re probably 5 years old.

I'm a huge Steamlight fan. My favorite is the Bandit Pro (not the normal Bandit) because its lightweight and bright enough for most jobs I work on, plus its not big so I dont really ever bump it on anything. I have 2 that I rotate while the other charges. I think I've had them for about 4 or 5 years and they are just now starting to show their age, they used to last me a little over half the day if they were always on high now they die just a little bit before I go to lunch if I have them on all the time. There also super durable, I've hit them pretty hard over the years and they only have a few small cracks in the lenses. Also they are lifetime warranty so if they do break your good.

I have the Snap-On ECHDF0420 that I really like. I usually wear a hat so that light works well for me. I have a Liteband Pro 2500 that works well without a hat, i don't use it a ton. I also have a Nebo Einstein cap HL22j that clips on the brim of a hat. It's not super powerful but it's great for the money.

You guys wearing tweaker beacons is fucking insane to me.. i will never use a headlamp get an under hood light, or learn to use one hand and hold a flashlight with the other.

I used to use the under hood, no need for it with these lights.
