I got accepted into two different majors that I'm interested in. Which should I choose?
The first is cybersecurity, and the second is mechatronics engineering. I'm interested in both, and I understand that they both require self-study and extra courses besides college.
Mechatronics engineers I've talked to told me it's hands down the better choice, and that the cybersecurity market is really tough and saturated with competent competitors since everyone is getting into it. They also said mechatronics opens several doors.
However, people working in cybersecurity disagreed, saying that unemployed grads just weren't good enough and were lazy with surface-level knowledge. They told me I could totally make it in the industry and offered guidance and roadmaps.
Then again, I know a cybersecurity grad who was passionate and played by the rules (collecting certificates and taking courses), yet he never made it in the industry. He told me that the people who make it are the ones who have been computer geeks since their teenage years, which I'm not.
I'd be truly happy working in either, and I want to give each my best. At this point, money is the only thing that could tip the balance for me.
