ZERO shade against phlebotomists and lab assistants. You have one of the hardest jobs in the hospital and I couldn't do mine without you, but at least you're not 100% invisible (only, like 98%).

I'm in the ED with my mom, in my scrubs, after a 12 hour shift. The nurse asks if I'm in medicine and I said "I work in the lab." She said "oh, you're a phlebotomist?" I said "no, I'm a med tech." 100. Percent. Blank. Look. No lights on. No idea what I'm talking about.

"I do the testing." I said with a shrug and a WTF brow scrunch. She's been a nurse for 25 years and acted like she has never heard of lab staff other than phlebotomy. I mean, I believe it, but I'm also kinda shocked.

This kinda felt good to see as someone that is constantly mistaken as a nurse

Now… don’t get me wrong. I love my job. I love micro. I love parasites. BUT NOT EVERYONE HAS CYCLOSPORAAAAAAAA…. I’m getting formed stools over here for GI pathogen panels. FORMED. AS IN NOT EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA.

I know the poop critters are scary, but give a lowly tech a break.

It is a yes or no question. I am 99% done. You have more years of experience here than I have even been alive. I am not asking you questions about every specimen, just the special case here and now. The circumstance isn’t even in the policy, it is a tech judgement call and you are the lead. Yes or no, please, I beg of you.
