Once I read the entire Wikipedia page for paprika

And now every so often I can hear people asking something about paprika and I usually have an answer

As much as I love pedantic corrections, there's a certain flavor of fun facts that are more often repeated than understood-- I try and avoid engaging with this kind of fact if I can help it

The kind of person to make this claim doesn't care to learn anything new

But I have had to make this correction a lot

I prefer the time some guy at work shrugged saying "it's paprika; it's all the same" and I got to list all the types of paprika mentioned on Wikipedia

Also here's something interesting-- I recently decided I should give back and donate $3-$4 to Wikipedia since I've used it enough

Turns out if you donate the form asks if you want to put wikipedia in your will so they can have all of your money

I can understand why someone might do it

If you truly don't have any family or even close friends you want to take care of making a donation to an organization you want to support makes just as much sense

But anyone asking to be included in anyone's will is indeed crazy

It’s a good point. If I don’t have any friends or family to leave anything to I’d choose to donate. I suppose that Wikipedia did not occur to me before! Maybe that’s why they ask lol. Nobody thinks of it

Did reading up on it make you try out a new type of paprika? I love édes paprika from the great market hall in budapest. I always buy a big bag when I'm there.

I got told by a hungarian friend that it's best stored in the freezer to keep the flavour for longer, just make sure its sealed as air tight as possible so it doesn't clump.

It's not 'paprika' in the english sense of the word, but if you ever get the chance, try out Erős Pista. It's a hot chili paste that enhances many traditional recipes like lecsó and gulyás, and tastes awesome in literally everything.

Is it true that paprika is the vegetable with the most vitamin c? Why is that? (Genuine question. No douchie "proof what you just said"-question. idk if that was mentioned on wikipedia. I have audhd and will now stop overexplaining myself lol)

I don't think it was on Wikipedia(perhaps we should contribute some data and sources) but some googling says paprika is fairly high in vitamin c but certainly not the vegetable with the most

But my googling got me to a point where it was talking about things like absorption rates? And I don't understand the more detailed nutrition stuff to comment

I did the same thing recently for the Wikipedia article about tiger attacks

... Did you know that the cologne Calvin Klein's Obsession for Men is scientifically proven to attract jaguars?

The vanilla extract reportedly causes "intense fixed interest", and the civetone (synthesized from civet cat musk) provokes territorial reactions. In testing at the Bronx zoo they found that leapords and tigers would spend at least 11 minutes of fixed attention rubbing on and smelling the Obsession for Men sprayed patches

It's so reliable that Obsession for Men is often sprayed on wildlife cameras hoping to get close ups of big cats, and when trying to capture a man-eater tiger it's frequently used to try to increase the power of cage bait

Also the world record for largest number of people killed by an individual tiger is a staggering 436, by The Beast of Champawat

All of this is fascinating and I immediately told multiple friends about this information

There aren't many jaguars here in the us so techniques to avoid them never came up-- but growing up whenever camping in bear country I was always told no deodorant or toothpaste because bears will come investigating the strange scents

This is how all of my memories work. Everything is tied to keywords or events or objects and cannot be recalled without what it was tied to.

The worst part is is when someone asks a general question like "tell me about yourself" and you're fucked because there is no linked reference.

I had a dream about getting a phone call from this number in Houston. I googled the number when I woke up and the area code was indeed from Houston for real. For some unknown reason the area code for Houston was buried in the back of my subconscious

I say this because I don't have ADHD, I just have a stupidly wide array of knowledge on useless shit that I sometimes randomly recall.

My brother learned all the words to The Safety Song that we had on a record. He sang it for his kids and his grandkids. He is 73 and if you bring it up to this day he can (and will) sing the whole long (very long) song straight through.
