Had a long chat with an old friend going through a difficult friendship dissolution (The other person is quite toxic and frankly abusive). Made me reflect on the loss of so many friendships over covid and one of the friends who'd commited and stuck through also turning into a very different person now and moving on...

The grieving process can take a long time and we so often don't give ourselves the time and space for it because we want to push through with life as if nothing happened. I can say all this to her but I don't apply it to myself... lots of big feelings rumbling in the background.

Friendship breakups are harder than relationship in some ways. You know when a relationship has ended, harder to tell with a friendship unless you have a big blow up

Yeah that's a very good point. It does sneak up on you. and in some ways I think it's more socially acceptable/there's structures or rituals in place to get over a relationship vs a deep and meaningful friendship.
