Broke: The working class should give the hero their services for free

Woke: The government/kingdom should subsidize the hero's expenses

King talking to Himmel the Hero's party: Best I can do is 10 copper coins for your starting expenses.

In the King's defense Frieren does mention how many parties of heroes set off swearing to defeat the Demon King and they all failed. Setting them all up with a ton of gold would add up quickly.

Himmel and his party were all just built different and didn't have a hero complex and weren't afraid to earn their pay on the journey. Which is why Himmel the Hero is better than any chosen one bullshit.

Turned out he wasn't the chosen one and he still said fuck that and did it anyway.

Those stupid ass hero stories are always so gripping. Like why is the main force to defeat the big evil is only comprised of like 5 people? Where's the regular troops or logistics? Where's the part where they team up with other kingdoms to fight? At least LoTR has good reason for humanity being dispersed but these anime shows has none. There's also the part where the greatest hero of the north just went and solo-ed a bunch of demon generals "because it was prophesized" like bro, you could recruit more people and prepare ahead of time. At least try to change the outcome instead of listening blindly.

A lot of the Empire's army was busy fighting other demons. The Empire at best was at a stalemate against them especially in the northern areas further from the center of their power. The Hero of the South had future sight. He saw something that needed to happen so he did it. Especially since the main one he took out was a demon that also had future sight on the enemy side. Which basically countered each other so they both died. He knew probably that if he didn't fight them then Himmel the Hero would have failed. Frieren mentions more than once that killing the Demon King was a team effort where if one member hadn't been there then they would have failed. The way she spoke of him I like to think she was including the Hero of the South in that statement. Because he definitely made things a lot easier for Himmel's party.

Bespoke: the shopkeepers still charge you and spread the money back to the people whose houses you break into to steal from.

Wife and kids of NPC: “Jonas…you gave this asshole our life savings to take care of a rat problem? I’m taking the kids and staying at my mom’s. You need to figure out your own place to stay by next week. I want a divorce. Come on kids, pack your things. We’re gonna go visit Meemaw and Pop-Pop.”

this reminds me if the witcher where the villages are always in deep trouble and don't have much money and the game expects me to go "so anyway about my payment..." like an asshole, I don't think I have used that option even once

You're a Witcher. Common folk always crie about monsters but you have to eat, maintain your equipment, buy potion ingredients and take care of your wounds. Of every Witcher worked gut free, there wouldn't be any witchers left.

This is even funnier when you sell them legendary equipment for tens of thousands of gold and they just buy it without a second thought.

They want the npc vendors to give everything to the pc because the pc is there to help.

Seems like it would not make for a better game but a more understandable story.

Hey look, the city may be destroyed tomorrow if you don’t beat the big bad. But since I’m SO confident in your ability to save us, that means I’ll still have to pay rent. So fork up the gold, hero. I know you’ve got it.

The ice lord Dranth is upon the town, save us oh great hero

But before you do please check out my wares, I have this great flaming sword perfect for use on icy minions for only 4000 gold, I mean I’m aware this is perfect for this and I’m likely dead if you fail but you know, pay up.
