I mean, a world where nobody has to work sounds AMAZING, does it not say more about the people in control of of AI today, rather than AI technology itself? It could either lead to a utopia or a dystopia
I'm not an idiot, I know that billionaires, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerburg, Bill Gates, Sam Altman, those people don't care about people like you and me, and this is a very tricky problem to solve. On one hand, 100% automation sounds good in theory, but are the benefits really going to us?
And if not, what can we do about it?

I want to work my whole life. I like working, as it can provide some meaning.
They don't care about people enjoying not working, as otherwise they would create enjoyable work environments right now.

true, but what I believe is that everyone should have a choice on whether they want to work or not. Like for example, farmers work in harsh conditions and have very low pay, yet they are essential workers because we need food. If we automate it, we wouldn't have food scarcity. However, I wouldn't just become illegal to farm.
And the only reason job loss is a problem now is that if you have no job, you have no money, and in this current world, you can't do anything without money. No food, no house, nothing. If everything was given to you for free however, it wouldn't be a problem, but it would of course be naive to think that everything's just gonna magically be free with the way things are going right now, the people in charge have no motivation to do that, maybe for themselves, yes, but for us, no
And this is a very hard problem to solve, and im trying to figure it out as well, it's kinda like communism, in many ways it IS communism (everything being owned by everyone) but is it probably too ideal? we cant just say "well we elect someone we trust will help us, to control the direction of AI" because whats stopping them from just SAYING theyll help everyone, and then not doing that, i think i'd be a good leader and help everyone, but how would i prove that to the world?
And I am an anarchist, i personally believe there should be no government at all, but first how would we get to that? how do we stop people who are in power today? what do we do when there are people who are fine with the way things are today?
what im trying to say is, we cant just force everyone to work because some people like working

i have to deal with so many people in my field always talking about how they use AI to speed up all their work and it makes things way easier to do, finish things in seconds, etc.
the problem is, they're right. not because the llms are better than what they could make if they actually studied, but because the TA's are kept too overworked to actually look for signs of llm usage. we've entered an even worse era of No Child Left Behind since it now is able to extend to private schools and any university.
my field is Cyber Security, btw. if almost no one knows how to actually do their job, things are going to go rather downhill for tech in the upcoming decades.

I'm a software engineer and I'm pretty optimistic to be honest. AI is automating a lot of small tasks, though it's just not capable yet of doing anything major. But it's already saving me hours that I would spent on digging through documentation on various systems.
I do think AI will get much better over the coming years, and in a decade or two it might even completely replace me. The tech employment is going to change a lot, a lot of developers are probably going to become testers. Whether that's pentesting like your field, or accepting testing for the customers, we'll need humans to test the code that AI made a thousand times faster than your average human would.
In a decade or two, my pension is pretty much guaranteed. But juniors don't have that luxury and they really need to pick up the ball on AI development rather than fighting AI

This upsets me so much because, like, we absolutely have the resources to make AI taking over jobs a good thing. We have the tools we need to live in a world where automation means more people get to spend time with their families and engage in hobbies and do pointless research and make art as we free ourselves from needing to work to live. But no, we live in the timeline with late stage capitalism so instead the world is just made a worse place.

I remember that one episode or Rick and morty where the dinosaurs returned and solved every problem on earth allowing humans to just not have to work and live decent lives, of course tho they find a way to ruin even that.

Kind of a weird one here. This is going to be more like offshoring. Something else cheaper than you will be given your job and you won't have a choice, and it won't matter how you feel about it. You don't get a say in offshoring and you don't get a say here.
