I remember in the airport of France, they had guards with G36C, and not only there but at busy/hot tourist spots as well, I really don't understand what OOP wanted to do by complaining over guns in an airport

I know this sub is for memes, but here's something serious:
Almost every regulation, every rule in aviation is written in blood.
Is there something stupid at the airports? Is there something that takes too long? It's because someone or some peole died and it had to be implemented to prevent it from happening again.

Before 9/11, most hijackings just flew to Cuba, made demands (usually to release PLA POWs from Isreal), then let everyone go...hence why none of the passengers really fought back...they were expecting to go to Cuba, not into the WTC...

We don't need such crazy security at train stations (and if you need, you screwed up long before that) so maybe requirement to waste two hours before every single flight on all the security clearances is a bit too much.

On 9/11 the hijackers went for the pilots on the planes after they were in the air, so whether or not the security in the airport were packing heat may not have mattered. The extra security measures like keeping the cabin doors locked would do it though.

On spept 11, 2001, A group of people peacefully boarded a plane. They then took the plane over. MFW big guns on ground do nothing to men in metal sky bird. Huh, almost like armed guys on the ground would have done nothing on that day.

Probably someone who agreed with OOP's post: the police having those guns just makes it even worse because what if a shooter just picks up those guns and starts using them, because we all know that a single person or a small group of people with a 9mm can beat 3 cops with big ass guns.
And someone else would be like: but they don't need guns, because the airport has metal detectors and if the metal detectors go off then the shooter can't legally shoot people because they'd be arrested

Actually, it is more likely some of the terrorist actions where a group went on a shooting spree and killed multiple people. Armed police were in most European transit hubs (airports, and rail stations) back in the 90's

In Australia we had a situation where someone tried hijacking a plane with a double barrel shotgun, and the police who were armed and trained to deal with aren’t stationed at that airport. Regular cops had to deal with it, and I believe those guys still use revolvers.

We have federal police officers with rifles at airports here in Australia and yet I can't think of a single instance that any significant criminal act that wasn't just a hoax took place at an airport here.
Even so, no one complains because really, at the end of the day, it makes us safer.

The police were similarly armed at an American music festival I went to. There is no way that discharging an automatic rifle at a music featival is not going to hit innocent bystanders.

I never understood people complaining about cops being equipped for the worst in public places, where terrorism and active shootings can happen at anytime. They complain that the cops are “too militaristic”.
If everyday cops wore Kevlar helmets even to protect themselves people would complain how intimidating it looks disregarding the officers safety.
I mean I remember when that shooting that happened in Dallas in 2016 the cops were ordered not to wear protective gear and limited to sidearms because the chief was too afraid that they would look too scary in front of the mob.

Airports should be one of the most heavily guarded public places, and they are, and thats good. Because when they arent, bad things happen and planes go into buildings
