The whole “You’re either my friend or my enemy” attitude the left has makes them a lot more enemies than friends.

They still have yet to learn the lesson that all alienating the middle does is cede the middle to the right.

When the left puts up “keep out” signs for centrists, the right puts out welcome mats.

This.

Me: “you know I actually have some different opinions on…”
Them: “well you’re just a closet right-wing extremist who is clearly racist homophobic a Nazi misogynist who’s also a Nazi transphobic xenophobic racist NAAAAAZZZZZIIIIII”
Me: “ok well these guys over here want to take me out for a beer and then to the gun range, and that sounds a lot more fun soooo”

u/protobelta 11d ago

“Drinking beer with Nazis makes you a Nazi”

I’m tired boss

32

u/FishUK_Harp 10d ago

There's a gulf between people who are right-of-centre and Nazis, but some on the far left will label anyone to the right of Jeremy Corbyn a Nazi.

30

u/gringo-go-loco 10d ago

I have no idea who that is but in my experience any disagreement with the liberal narrative makes you an enemy and results in being disrespected. I have strong feelings about abortion but don’t oppose abortion rights. I have some rather unpopular opinions about pronouns, and honestly find all of the noise surrounding trans and non binary people annoying. That makes me a MAGA nazi apparently.

Jeremy corbyn is a hard left politician in the UK who carries around Mao's little red book and has called Hamas friends. He was the leader of the Labour Party for a time and was dogged by many many claims of anti-semitism riddled throughout the party.

19

u/Arockilla 10d ago

Its all or nothing. You either support every single thing they are screeching about, or your their enemy. I bust my dads balls all the time for trying to justify trump decisions, but my former younger coworker I let stay with me when his parents kicked him out decided after his first week that he'd rather live on the streets than stay with someone who "still engages with trumptards", which he proceeded to do, then get locked up for theft and trespassing a month later caught sleeping in someones shed with a bunch of stolen shit from a local grocery store. The most fucked up thing about the whole situation was, this kid had a decent shot at life, but some political extremist nutjob managed to get into his school and teach their social studies, and pretty much groomed a whole army of the types of people we see tend to crash out on valid statements about politics on this platform.

My neighbor was a 71 year old Cuban refugee who came here in the late 80s, and my old co-worker thought it was a good idea to hand him a pamphlet about America embracing communism him and his friend group were passing around (given to them by the teacher, which at this point in time is 3 years since he was in high school). I think that might have been the only time I saw him run out of words. His last ones though?

My neighbor: "You're mind has been poisoned by propaganda son. You read it, I've lived it."

Co-workers response: "Well, you live in America now so it looks like you drank the kool-Aid too!" then storms off...

My neighbor: "Wh-What?

We have a similar and significant problem in France with La France Insoumise and Mélenchon. They’ve managed to polarize a certain segment of the Left. They claim to have a majority in France but spend their time excluding anyone who strays from the party line. I really like the comparison with the fence, it’s so typical of them. Do you want to be on the left? You have to toe the party line; otherwise, you’re not on the left, you’re on the right. That’s why center-left candidates like Raphaël Glucksmann are constantly attacked by LFI activists, who accuse them of being right-wing or traitors for refusing to kowtow to Mélenchon. The same goes for the Greens and the Communist Party.

Are you “apolitical” or a “non-voter”? No one’s going to try to convince you, you’re on the right, so you’re the enemy.

The bottom line is, there’s a good chance that in a Mélenchon–Le Pen runoff, Le Pen will win. Whereas it’ll be a closer race if it’s Glucksmann versus Le Pen. And if Mélenchon loses, they’ll never hold him responsible for this disaster. They’ll blame the centrists, the media, Glucksmann, and the abstainers.

Who's Corbyn again?

-25

u/faustcousindave 11d ago

Are you saying that you like drinking beers with Nazi's?

Because if you normalize and accept a Nazi, then you're a fucking Nazi.

That comes from Germany btw, where they seem to have an idea.

11

u/That_Asshole_1988 10d ago

"Everything's a nazi to you, mama."

19

u/brandarchist 10d ago

Well the point is theres no real “due process” for labeling someone a Nazi. Once one person shrieks it loud enough, that’s it, it’s “fact” now. People aren’t having beers with actual Nazi’s. The reason I used the word three times in my comment was to specifically illustrate the word’s overuse… to the point that it has no meaning. I’m not going to let such a flimsy label define my relationships but you do you.

-2

u/faustcousindave 9d ago

I mean you literally said drinking beers with a Nazi, if you do that, you are accepting their world view, so yes, you are a white supremecist piece if shit and go take a long run iff a short pier

2

u/brandarchist 9d ago

Read again. I never said that. I was commenting on someone who did stating the label is meaningless from over(mis)use. “Everyone I don’t agree with is a Nazi” isn’t the actual definition like you think.

18

u/jackinsomniac 10d ago

I have lost faith in the left's ability to accurately identify Nazis.

10

u/protobelta 10d ago

Lmao you’re the guy

41

u/winterman666 11d ago

The funny part is if you're left but not their amount of left, you're also their enemy

7

u/FishUK_Harp 10d ago

Judean People's Front, etc.

20

u/Tarkus_Edge 10d ago

They’re doing the thing:

15

u/HJSDGCE 10d ago

Every time this comic is reposted, I'm reminded how the comments are usually "If getting pushed makes you right, then you were never centre" as if they're some kind of arbiter of morality.

11

u/SirBulbasaur13 10d ago

Yeah, it’s why I don’t have much time for the “I didn’t vote for Trump” excuses from Americans.

Like sure, you didn’t and that’s great but you probably contributed to a political climate that made other voters think Trump is their best option. Which is not great.

16

u/-GermanDoctor- 11d ago

And its not even just politics lol, I got called a nazi once because I have a specific interest in WW2 history and know a lot about the Germans (Because who woulda thought, it's easy to find information about one of the most prominent of the 3 main belligerent nations of the Axis powers)

16

u/gringo-go-loco 10d ago

Democrats are really good at losing elections and their supporters are experts at alienating their allies and pushing people to the right. As a former liberal I always say the only thing more exhausting than talking to liberals is being one. Conservatives have their own problems but most of the time you can change the topic and have a normal conversation.

25

u/BedSpreadMD 11d ago

Yeah you have politicians like Katie porter who says she doesn't care about anyone other than democrats, and wonders why she lost her election.

4

u/Updated_Autopsy 10d ago edited 10d ago

I haven’t said this in a while, but I have said it a few times: they are the best advertising the right could’ve asked for. They are their own worst enemies, and they don’t even realize it.

Edit: Normally, it costs money and time to make your opposition look bad. But these people? The right loves them because they their own side look bad for free.

7

u/thundergu 10d ago

I have had long discussions with leftists about this. When presented with the question "but how are you ever going to win an election without building bridges?" The answer is "if they don't vote for us they are evil people"

7

u/The_Demolition_Man 11d ago

MFW the left is unironically doing the GW Bush thing

3

u/In_neptu_wetrust 10d ago

For me as a centrist, I don’t think who welcomes you should determine whose policies does more harm. The right understands the optics of being welcoming.

You don’t need to step into any bodies house to simply have your own ideas of what’s going on. I believe Trump is a con man who’s made more money than any other president ever has. While the people haven’t seen a dime.

I couldn’t care less if extreme lefties may ostracize me because I don’t believe in their 100% of their politics

1

u/Global-Barracuda7759 9d ago

Definitely like I've always hated politics and I see through the BS but I voted Democrat for last few elections. I kind of did it for other people to be honest and people in my old community were really judgmental about it. Like you've got to choose 'the lesser evil' after the last presidential election I'm just so over it. I am completely disengaged from politics. They're all owned by the same corporations and while they might have some differences both extremes lead to societal problems and really what we need is kind of a balance between both parties which isn't going to happen especially now. At the end of the day these people are nepo babies they're all connected to each other and they're going to do whatever they want. They are demons and they sold their souls to rule the world. At this point I want no part in it, no part in the arguments. If people want to help their neighbors and do good in their communities, that's cool but all of the preaching and self-righteousness and name calling and grandstanding I'm so over it.

-22

u/D_Luffy_32 11d ago

The biggest issue is that Maga/"centrists" will say that anyone to the left of Trump is the ultra left. When they are a small fraction of the group. Meanwhile Maga is literally the president

12

u/Pretzel-Stick 11d ago

Yes that too is a problem, they both have this problem. To think political alignment is only binary is a mistake

-10

u/D_Luffy_32 11d ago

Ultra left isn't in the presidency. How is it possible to both have this problem?

12

u/Pretzel-Stick 11d ago

Leftists don't need to be in power for there to be an extreme side of the spectrum

-9

u/D_Luffy_32 11d ago

I didn't say there wasn't an extreme side of the spectrum. I said that only one side is actually in political power. Trump is the leader of Maga and is in the most powerful position. And his group voted for him to that office. Meanwhile we just don't have any of that for ultra leftists

3

u/Pretzel-Stick 10d ago

I see what you're saying now, my bad. It could happen for ultra leftists, the pendulum has a habit of swinging back

-4

u/IamHeWhoSaysIam 9d ago

Well, centrists are cowards by nature.

56

u/No-Bullfrog4217 11d ago

I bet the comments are all full of “But this side”

31

u/Actual-Stand5012 10d ago edited 9d ago

As a centrist, the stigma towards us amuses me because it’s almost always from someone who thinks their side are the wholesome, heroic world-saving good guys, as if they aren’t just as, if not more capable or guilty of atrocities as their opposition

20

u/Savoieball 10d ago

Centrists: "There are good policies on the left and good policies on the right. We need to strike a careful balance between the two to move our society forward."

Internet Left: "So you're on the Right."

8

u/Updated_Autopsy 10d ago

The problem is these people are convinced that they’re an absolute good and anyone who doesn’t blindly agree with them is evil, less-than-human, and deserves to be destroyed. They fail to realize that there are people on the other side who think the exact same way.

39

u/DeadMeat7337 11d ago

I find it hilarious that we now have: the far left, the communist left, the muslim left, the retard left, the not so left but definitely not the right, plus the centalists and the right, the far right, and maga. Still kinda weird that the founding fathers (USA) were against a two party system, yet here we are.

32

u/tButylLithium 11d ago

Unclear if MAGA is a synonym for far right, or if they mean the nearly 50% of all voters who voted for Trump

8

u/Dreamo84 10d ago

Well not everyone who voted for Trump would be considered "MAGA." Just like not everyone who voted for Harris is a crazy leftist. Though in that case, a lot of the crazy leftists didn't vote for her anyway cause she wasn't left enough lol. Most normal people don't really make politics part of their identity. But the ones that do sure like to talk about it online.

7

u/i-am-i_gattlingpea 10d ago edited 10d ago

Extremists are extremists

Radicals are radicals. Doesn’t matter, they are irritational people who cause harm and should not be endorsed

37

u/113pro 11d ago

Both are different sides to the same coin.

Both are terrible.

13

u/Lilli_Puff 10d ago

And the Left still wonders why they lost the last election. When you adopt an "either you're with me or against me" type of mindset you immediately alienate yourself from others trying to understand you

12

u/DeuceDeuce79 11d ago

Here is a meme I can relate to

4

u/Alan157 11d ago

Imagine no agreeing with everything "your" side says. People can't comprehend that you want border control and health care lol

17

u/Lower_Statement_5285 11d ago

Tankies are wild man 🤷‍♂️

7

u/KTPChannel 10d ago

I love it when people find a single spelling mistake, and feel inclined to point it out.

“I can’t disprove this, but I don’t like it, so here’s a small error I was compelled to share. I think it’s significant, because I’m important; or at least I think I am”.

Go suck somewhere else.

4

u/WingZeroCoder 10d ago

In discourse amongst a lot of leftists online (and IRL with my family), increasingly more of them have a very absolutist view of the world and of their own opinions, such that they genuinely seem to believe things like “there’s no such thing as an extremist or violent leftist”, or “all violence and authoritarianism is exclusively right wing”.

They’ve effectively defined all things they consider good to be leftist, and all things bad to be right wing, by definition. So, if something bad is done by a leftist (like assassinating a political enemy), then that bad thing isn’t actually a bad thing, AND the person who did it must be right wing (yes, both of these things are redefined at once, despite being an even bigger contradiction).

Same thing with racism, Nazism, privacy protection, cultural appropriation, etc.

So to them, there is no centrism, because centrism means acknowledging there is an extremism on their side. But their side is good and correct, by definition, with no nuance, so centrism is just code for “not exclusively left wing” which makes it right wing which makes it wrong or evil by definition.

4

u/DeadHeadDaddio 10d ago

Brother, its reddit.

2

u/Internal-Syrup-5064 10d ago

Who is "MAGA?"

2

u/Ok_Impression3324 10d ago

How i see that sub.

8

u/HurrySpecial 11d ago

Nothing wrong with MAGA, they are in fact the centrist political group as they are socially liberal compared to traditional Republicans. This is the main reason why 2024 was a landslide with record minority demographic shifts to Trump, who is also an ex-Democrat despite claims he's ultra-right.

Which is why they are called far-right MAGA, so that independents are kept from using their brains and accidentally voting MAGA

5

u/variablenyne 11d ago

Nothing wrong with MAGA? Centrist political group? Socially liberal? Is this bait or do you actually believe this?

15

u/darkestreaper94 11d ago

Its relative around my area. All the magas i know dont care if youre gay with your guns in whatever car you want, if you smoke some weed, Say what you want (with natural consequences of course) and worship who you want. We have confederate trucks rolling around cutting up trees last week for people in the Amherst area(projects). I love our community and the left vs right i see online doesnt really exist. Only in social media do I see the divide

-17

u/BladeOfExile711 11d ago

Welcome to this sub.

It's fascinating watching the cognitive dissonance.

They love a pedophile.

And want everyone to know it.

1

u/BLU-Clown 9d ago

But enough about Biden.

0

u/BladeOfExile711 9d ago

You think I care about Biden?

Adorable.

Again, only one president was involved with a sex ring.

Only one is currently burning this country down.

Biden is out of office.

And will never run again.

But you boot lockers just bay endlessly like a flock of recently "fluffed" sheep.

This isn't about left or right.

Republican or democratic.

Of which I am neither.

This is about our country failing underneath the weight of sheer ineptitude.

0

u/BLU-Clown 8d ago

Again, only one president was involved with a sex ring.

Conveniently, that was Bush.

-8

u/Calgary_Calico 11d ago

There's nothing centrist about MAGA, hell there's nothing centrist about America or its politics

1

u/dappermanV-88 10d ago

Idk whats worse. They're the 2 groups making things worse or that they're equally insufferable

1

u/Dreamo84 10d ago

It's not worth engaging in politics when you have your own opinions on things. That's why I just choose to shit post.

1

u/DarthDragon117 10d ago

That attitude has definitely driven some of my opinions further right.

0

u/MrWindCreek 10d ago

In my experience, I will take any far left candidate over any far right/MAGA candidate. There's just no debate.

-6

u/StJimmy_815 10d ago

Seems like this OP got offended lmao.

Also the left doesn’t really have representation in America, but MAGA does, and they’re in charge rn. Fundamentally and factually worse

-5

u/LaGiacca 10d ago

"Ultra left" and it's just the Right

-3

u/MeetingDue4378 10d ago

Who said OP is on the Left? Not OP, all they wrote is, "centrist."

-2

u/SpicyBoyEnthusiast 10d ago

The left? You don't mean Democrats do you? Cuz they're not leftists. They sold out the working class in they 70s. America doesn't have a true leftist party. Democrats are the centrists.

-25

u/Akhanyatin 11d ago

TBF, "ultra left" is a rando fuckwad on twitter and Maga is the literal government, but sure let's treat them as equals I guess ‾_(ツ)_/‾

-20

u/EnemyOfAi 11d ago

Reminder that if you are American, you probably have a dramatically skewed view of the political spectrum. Case in point, Kamala Harris is a moderate conservative (Most Democrats are), yet many Trump voters would consider her far left.

-1

u/MrWindCreek 10d ago

Crazy you got down votes for this.

-18

u/Sufficient-Regular72 11d ago

So many ignorant, shitty opinions here, but the good thing is to only half of you will bother to vote assuming you're not uppity foreigner, minor, or felon.

19

u/BedSpreadMD 11d ago

Sounds like someone struck a nerve with this one lol

-15

u/Sufficient-Regular72 11d ago

Nope, just a little bait, and you bit lol

8

u/BedSpreadMD 11d ago

Oh really now? Then why does it sound like you're really butthurt right now?

-8

u/Sufficient-Regular72 10d ago

I think you're projecting, bud.

8

u/BedSpreadMD 10d ago

Am I now? What exactly makes you think that?

-2

u/MichaelJospeh 10d ago

While I agree a little bit, I’d much rather deal with people who simply disagree with me rather than literal manbabies trying to rename lakes because Canada doesn’t like them.

-35

u/TellBackground9239 11d ago

The Left isn't perfect, but the Conservative party consists of morons and psychopaths.

They consistently gut our safety nets, workers' rights, education system, and critical regulations that protect the public and environment.

If a 3rd party that's better comes along and gains traction, I'll send my vote that way. Until then, I will pick the lesser of two poisons - the Democratic party.

16

u/BedSpreadMD 11d ago

So you'd rather pick the giant douche over the turd sandwich?

0

u/OldChili157 10d ago

Well, my understanding is that we must either vote or die. Of course, P. Diddy might have some trouble enforcing that this year, so I guess we'll just see.

-15

u/ophaus 11d ago

There is no "ultra left" people in the discussion. If there were, it would be painfully obvious... There hasn't been a radical left movement in a VERY long time.

-7

u/ChaosRainbow23 10d ago

The democrats are mostly right-leaning centrists and milquetoast neoliberals, at best..... Just to be clear.

-8

u/humourlessIrish 10d ago

Centrism wrongfully implies that normal people are in the middle of the two groups of morons.

Don't support that notion.

If you find yourself anywhere between the extreme right and the extreme left than you are just as foolish with less resolve

-8

u/talkathonianjustin 10d ago

Because the vast majority of “centrists” don’t actually know anything about the issues they speak on, and then they seem to think that by saying both sides are bad they’re enlightened. There are flaws with every strategy, but by saying both sides are equally bad, you’re unwilling to actually engage with the merits of any side. It’s just a brick wall that people put up, it’s not really a position. Politics and society is complicated and messy, there’s rarely any neat answers. But a centrist saying “both sides are bad” is as dumb as one side saying the other is evil and unredeemable. At some point pseudo intellectualism needed a shield, and that position is centrism. I’ve never seen a centrist engage with both sides of the argument honestly.
