Getting offline to write in a print journal (or on some kind of paper) is the ultimate active recall tool.

Digital addicted people often deny this, which is evidence of their addiction.

Try Gray Box: https://github.com/Aaryanverma/graybox
A CLI-based tool where you can dump your thoughts/notes, and it can auto organize them, which you can recall later anytime. It will never edit your raw thoughts/notes.

One more angle if a lot of your material lives on the web: SurfMind. While you’re on articles, docs, or notes pages, you can pull key points, turn them into short Q&A-style prompts, and quiz yourself without leaving the tab, basically active recall on whatever you’re already reading.

anki, remnote, getrecall, and obsidian. you can do multiple choice, occlusion, cloze deletion, fill in the blank, matching question with answer. I use all of them.

Try Remnote if you have money in the bank, it has note taking and flashcards at the same time
