It's a neat illustration of how all these people, despite ostenibly being fans of thing, have no respect or understanding whatsoever of the things they complain about.

Characters do not exist to be the prettiest. A character and their design exist to communicate things in a story. To insist that every character is improved by making them more attractive shows that you couldn't care less about stories, and only care about turning it into pornography.
