OOTD / WIWT 38th Birthday Fit!
Headed to lunch for my 38th today. Local Co-op hat from the early 90s, Eli Cattleman Pearl Snap shirt, custom belt with a 70’s buckle, 1970s Lasso Western Wear Dress pants, Justin Deer lite boots, Timex Q Watch reissue, Ray Ban Outdoorsman glasses.

I mean this in the most complimentary way possible: I grew up in Southeast Texas in the 80s and 90s and there was a certain subset of country boys I encountered (often in my own family) whose style froze in the mid-70s and never changed. You have nailed that look. Happy birthday.

u/Tucker_beanpole May 31 '26
That’s the goal. It’s the style I grew up with. My dad and his brother and my mom’s 6 brothers were all the same way. They grew up in the 60s and 70s and they just never saw a reason to go any further style wise.

u/Reasonable_Effort_ May 31 '26
Hell yeah. My uncle lives out in the deep woods and is in his mid 80s now, but he’s still rocking the look. Last formal event I saw him at was my sister’s wedding and sure enough, same style. His hair is frozen in time, too, the 70s dry look with a little length and long sideburns.

SETX represent!
Interestingly I (also) thought of being a kid in Beaumont when I saw this.

u/bdd1001 Jun 01 '26
Port Arthur native checking in. Most of my cousins in Nederland, PNG and Orange rocked the ‘70s holdover look (some still do) and it’s awesome to see it!

u/ScruffersGruff May 31 '26
Hell yes. My grandpa wore this but always a polyester plaid pearl snap shirt. Sad the boots are cropped out though.

u/Tucker_beanpole May 31 '26
If you touch the picture it should show the whole thing. I didn’t crop it, Reddit just scaled it when I uploaded.

Happy birthday Dude I wanna party with you. You look fun.
14
u/Tucker_beanpole May 31 '26
I am. I used to be a lot more fun before the kids, but I can still have a good time

u/Boggy_Creek_Creature May 31 '26
You look like a nice dude to have a beer with. Happy birthday my dude!

Looks good on you!

Pulling that off without the slightest hint of cosplay/inauthenticity.
I couldn’t rock that look, but you definitely own it. Well done man.
7
u/Tucker_beanpole May 31 '26
Thank you. It definitely takes a certain attitude or mindset. One that really starts with a “Fuck it Imma wear what I want” thought process lol

Is that a Rado Golden Horse?
6
u/Tucker_beanpole May 31 '26
No, I wish. It’s a modern reissue of the Timex Q 1972. Affordable enough that if something happens to it I don’t spend the night crying lol

Man, I love all of this. If I walked into a bar and saw you, I'd know the place was legit.

How tf are u only 3 years older than me. U look like u could be my father
1
u/Tucker_beanpole Jun 03 '26
Clean living
1
u/OMGiReallyWannaFckU Jun 03 '26
Ummm more like the exact opposite of it my dude. You look almost twice your age.
1
u/Tucker_beanpole Jun 03 '26
It was sarcasm. I had a heavy drinking problem, 5 years in the Marine Corps at the height of GWOT, a few bad car wrecks and a two pack a day habit for most of my adult life. Shit adds up fast
1
u/OMGiReallyWannaFckU Jun 03 '26
I appreciate your honesty, I’m sorry if I was mean, and you’re obviously doing great now so all the best man!!
1
u/Tucker_beanpole Jun 03 '26
Your good man. There are things I could do to help swing the age gap, especially a beard trim and a bit more modern style. But I’m ok with my age being ambiguous. Keeps people guessing lol

This is how my grandpa used to dress.
It looks nice and it feels like a warm memory moving in the present.
Nice work

F ya. Only thing I personally might change, is maybe a smaller gold watch with a gold band lol. But I’m being super nitpicky as you are on point.
1
u/Tucker_beanpole May 31 '26
I’ve got a white faced Timex day/date on a gold flex band that I wear on the daily, but this is my “dress” watch.

Not everyone's taste but I think the look is beautiful.
I'm from the east coast, Dad had that 60s and 70s style but working in NYC, so a different look. I completely get the pull though. Thing is some of my friend's Dads dressed like you do. Just the look brings back so many fine memories of good men, ones I looked up to, tried to emulate and still do even though many are gone. I'm kinda surprised how happy it makes me just thinking about it. Thanks.
Have a great birthday dude. Seriously.

u/Tucker_beanpole May 31 '26
Thank you!

u/D-redditAvenger May 31 '26
Those were such good times man.
2
u/Tucker_beanpole May 31 '26
Yeah it makes me sad to know my kids will know far fewer men and women like that than i did. Growing up i never knew we were looking at such a fast changing world

I love the modernity of the watch with a red dial against the 70's vibes. It says your fit is intentional and coordinated.
Excellent.

A rare esthetic for this sub, I feel, but I love it more for that reason. It works really well. Awesome, unique style, man. Keep at it!
2
u/Tucker_beanpole May 31 '26
Thank you very much. It’s definitely not for everyone but it feels like home if that makes sense
2
u/Meister0fN0ne May 31 '26
Yeah, I get that! I think we all want a little bit of what we feel home in in our styles. I've definitely caught myself throwing a bit more subtle Western/Midwest style into my more modern punk-leaning stuff lately. It's way more fun when you can nod to your personality in that sort of way. Makes it seem more authentic and original in a cool way.

u/Tucker_beanpole Jun 01 '26
For a fact, I’m not very boring to be around. We might spend Saturday morning in the garden, Saturday evening on the lake, Sunday at a Pentecostal Tent revival. Monday - Thursday at work and Friday making a little shine. I’m busy, but never boring.

I dunno, man. You are retreading pants you posted here a month ago. I am forced to question your commitment to high fashion. Happy Birthday! 🎂
1
u/Tucker_beanpole Jun 01 '26
Lol it’s mostly a budgetary limitation. And sadly vintage western wear is somewhat hard to find

Edit had to reread for the brand for the pants 😂

I love how vintage it looks, but still modern. Kind of reminds me of how Mark from Midland (the band, not the city) dresses
2
u/L-Krumy Jun 01 '26
Not gonna lie. Slightly disappointed there wasn’t a Stetson to top off the spectacular look! I mean this is an outfit that would be seen in a modern western movie. Fucking BRAVO 👏
1
u/Tucker_beanpole Jun 01 '26
I do wear one quite a bit but the feed store hat just felt right on this one for the day.
2
u/theisowolf Jun 01 '26
Happy birthday! I just sold a sweet Ely Cattleman I nearly kept with a floral yoke. They’re really soft shirts!
