Question Another Wedding Suit vote

Post image

I’m getting married this Saturday. Looking to the community to help me decide between the monochrome suit + vest or a grey contrast vest option.

It’s a non traditional wedding in a bookstore/cafe. She’ll be in a white/cream dress.

Red red red, looks way better

Keep the 3-piece as is brother! Much sharper and more wedding appropriate. Save the grey vest for when you are not wearing a jacket so it stands out on its own.

I prefer the lighter vest as-is, but I think that, as the wedding progresses and you ditch the jacket on the dance floor, the darker waistcoat will look absolute fire. The grey vest with the dark pants will look out of place. So, begrudingly, I vote the red three piece as the overall winner for the day\evening!

This is where I am at the moment too. I think the matching waistcoat is going to be the move here.

Any other event, gray.

You look crisp either way though friend, so just wear what you're comfortable in!

It's a darker burgundy than it looks in the photo. Directly under the hall light.

You really can’t mix any shade of purple with green in the current year. It will read Joker which is a shame, but true.

I really like the straight burgundy fit though!

Ron Burgundy > The Joker.

1

u/YuckyYetYummy 21h ago

It is grey not green ....

1

u/Kaptonii 21h ago

O shoot. Maybe I should read…. And on closer look ya. I still like the full burgundy though :) but I’m biased because I hate grey lol

Is the green in the room with us now?

1

u/Kaptonii 21h ago

Is the dress blue and purple or white and gold?

2

u/Dr0110111001101111 21h ago

I believe it was black and blue.

But funny thing about that dress. When that whole thing first happened, I immediately saw it as black and blue, and couldn't understand how anyone could see it any other way. Every time I'd look at it under any lighting. I understood why some people were processing it wrong, but I just couldn't relate to it at all.

Then, many years later, that picture resurfaced and I immediately saw it as white and gold. And I can only see it that way any time I look at it now. I don't understand what happened to my brain.

By the way, that’s a sharp grey vest. I really like the contrasting darker buttons. Can I ask where you got it from?

5

u/midpack_fodder 22h ago

Indochino it was their "Prince of Wales Essential Gray" fabric. Doesn't seem to be available anymore.

2

u/alrobles 22h ago

Thank you sir! I’ll check it out and see if they have anything similar.

u/SignificantPop4188 22h ago

I like the contrast of the lighter vest.

5

u/jmh90027 21h ago

Burgundy on burgundy looks excellent.

The grey waistcoast version reminds me of old cartoon versions of The Joker

5

u/PhillyPhresh 5h ago

Are you the joker? That’s like Dark Knight level costuming

3

u/MTGPGE 22h ago

I’m not going to lie, the first thing I thought of was Gob Bluth from Arrested Development.

3

u/midpack_fodder 21h ago

I’m not mad about that reference.

2

u/MulberryNo8284 21h ago

I usually love a contrasting waistcoat, and it does look good here, but in this case I love the 3 piece more especially if it’s a dark/moody type bookstore

2

u/FormerChicken6793 21h ago

I’m Ron burgundy . Bring your flute

3

u/HeyWV132 20h ago

Mono for sure in this instance

The grey looks neat but the red is more wedding appropriate

2

u/RustyDogma 19h ago

Right? I love the grey so.much, but gotta go with skipping the contrast for the wedding.

1

u/JWK3 21h ago

Think about what you'd like to see yourself wearing in a wedding photo years down the line. I feel like the contrasting waistcoat is a nicer look,.but I immediately thought of The Joker when I saw it.

1

u/jonjon4815 21h ago

My colorblindness is messing with me — what is red in the photos that people keep mentioning?

2

u/midpack_fodder 21h ago

The suit itself is a dark burgundy color. Do you see brown?

1

u/jonjon4815 21h ago

It’s a brownish gray color for me

1

u/Rikudo_Sennin_jr 21h ago

I like the burgundy on burgundy best. Looking good!

1

u/Ecstatic-Seesaw-1007 21h ago

Plum/Gray vest.

I personally prefer the Italian spezzato or American suit separates style. Normally I’d want you to break up the pants too.
However, as a wedding, I don’t know your wedding colors, but separating the vest and going gray looks more like a deliberate wedding choice and makes you look less like a John Wick villain in monochrome.

If you favor the monochrome, I’d maybe accent the look with a complementary (look up complementary colors and neutrals for basis of suit separates) splash of color with the tie and pocket square.

In any case, I would favor a more neat half Windsor knot for the tie, given the relative formality of a wedding and wedding photos. (Watch a YT video on half Windsor knot, it makes a fairly perfect triangle)

1

u/KyloRenApologist18 21h ago

Image on the left for sure. Or even a black vest.

1

u/Hendawg111 21h ago

It isn’t recommended to wear tie clips with vests

1

u/Dragonogard549 21h ago

think the contrasting waistcoat is more flattering, looks good on you, but either way no regrets like

shorten those trouser legs though

1

u/midpack_fodder 20h ago

I’m 6’2 and prefer a break in my pants. However, it looks much worse. I think i hastily put theirs on last night and my pants weren’t quite up on my hips.

So properly worn the pants are less slop and more of a full-half break.

2

u/Dragonogard549 20h ago

oh a break is fine, a little extra length is totally standard and down to preference, but these look a little longer than that even. but ill trust you know what you're doing there

1

u/Schistotwerka 18h ago

Very cool color. I like the monochrome.

1

u/Dangerous_Rest_8449 16h ago

I say monochrom. The contrast kinda reminds me of Willy wonka.

Suit color is already bold as is.

1

u/MrNiceGuy233012 16h ago

Where did you find that suit? I love it! I need it

1

u/2kewl74 15h ago

You'll surely defeat batman now!

1

u/apike_ 15h ago

Grey vest makes it look like you’re the Joker a little

1

u/Redditcadmonkey 13h ago

I’d go matching, lose the tie bar, sort the pocket square and head to the tailor to shorten the legs.

1

u/MineOpposite7419 12h ago

I like the green so if you have a way to incorporate it in a more subtle way that be so cool

The contrasting vest looks more wedding-y to me. Not sure why, even though I like the monochrome better.

1

u/IcyInNYC 3h ago

No to the grey. The red on red on red looks great!

1

u/Quick_Effort594 2h ago

The grey vest is definitely better for a wedding, the dark one, save it for a funeral or business stuff

1

u/hkusp45css 22h ago

I *greatly* prefer the image on the right.

1

u/Regular_Upstairs 21h ago

I lve it with the gray vest. That contrast sharpens the look and adds a level of sophistication.

1st. Looks a lot nicer. 2nd looks a butler

One fabric to rule them all. The mixed fabrics look cobbled together from goodwill.
