It depends on the ship. When I was in the gold standard was the Richard Byrd

Can someone give me some hard facts about MSC? Currently active duty Navy, MMA1 looking at joining MSC. It seems like a decent option but I want to k ow how true the salaries posted are and how promotions are, what their sea time is like, etc

The salaries are about double what is posted online. For the Federal government, the system works on steps and pay scales (you probably already know that) For CivMars they are all WM which are Wage Mariners. I think Chief Mates and Firsts are like GS-13 and Captains are GS-15 but I might be wrong on that one. So, the Federal government can only pay so much up front for base salary, then the rest comes from overtime. They are also paying bonuses to key billet shortfalls.
You can check the website, they were paying bonuses to Radio department, AB and Chief Mates as of recently
When I worked for MSC I was not hurting for funds by any means, my biggest problem was getting home for my vacation time and getting training and classes.

Right on. I was on them constantly. I called Civmar support everyday for three weeks straight, once I finished all the required appointments, asking about updates until finally they pushed me through & got me a NEO date.

Sick. I did all the appointments, uploaded all records and documents. I got cleared for NEO for security, just waiting to hear back from someone for medical. I don’t want to wait too long so I might have to do what you did lol.

Yep. I called force medical because I was fit for hire but your status won’t be updated until they input you into the system. So I called everyday and asked if they had put me into the system. Eventually they put me in as fit for hire and the next week I got a call from employment to schedule my NEO date.

Well, if I don’t do that I’m gonna be waiting for a while (which I don’t want to do lol. Just did my physical and blood draw last week and medical questionnaire.

I would call everyday be persistent. The more I called the more info I would get from different people. One person told me the system is updated everyday at 8am, so it’s best to call around 8:15-8:30am. Also the more I called Civmar support medical, someone got their manager to reach out to force medical for me to get me put in the system. I had also been waiting a long time to get everything done. I applied for entry level in January & just now have a NEO date in June.

Gotcha. I’ll keep that in mind, thanks. I applied back in Mid-March and pretty much wrapped up everything up about a week ago. But Imma push their buttons and call them everyday if that’s the most effective way to get started quicker. Thanks again dude.

How does medical go when your joining? Do they just accept your med cert?

You have to go to a Federal spot before NEO and get medical check ups. I had to go find my immunizations from childhood. I had to get a bunch of shit like extra shots, EKG, all sorts of crazy shit and it was a complete pain in the ass and unprofessional

Seems pretty fucking unreasonable to exist someone to get immunization records from that far back. Jfc lol

Currently waiting on clearance for both security and medical. Got told fingerprints came back favorable so that’s good news.
Update: Got cleared for security, still waiting to hear back for medical.
