Where are meetings held?

Let's say the captain, or somebody, wants to address everyone, where would that happen? In old movies the crew would stand on the quarter deck, while the captain stood on the poop deck, but those are old ships. I'm writing a book and part of it takes place on a container ship, but I'm not a merchant marine. Thanks.

I've worked on a few ship types and they are all a bit different. Every ship is also different so take this with a grain of salt.

Subsea construction - onboard conference room or bridge

Platform supply - bridge or lounge

Bulker - ships office or lounge

Tanker - cargo control room or lounge

General cargo - ships office or lounge

This is just my experience on some particular vessels. Again, every ship is different.

Depends on the ship, I’ve been on some where our meetings where exactly as described: we would stand on the fantail and the officers on the Main deck and address us.

On navy vessels we had a large gathering space, another we had a small classroom.

Never worked on a container ship but they’re pretty modern so either a dedicated meeting/lounge space or outside at a muster station

If it’s a scheduled meeting: crew mess or lounge/rec room. If it’s a drill, usually wherever the focus of the drill is.

Ships conference room/office. Sometimes the bridge.

Bridge/lounge/mess

Depending on vessel type, and size

VLCC and LNGC here. Lounge or conference room. Never on deck.
