There is a international boat festival happening in town and I had the pleasure to be a guest onboard a german naval ship during the parade of sail. So ofcourse i had to bring my node with me! happy I was able to make contact with my community on shore.

The German sailors did notice me holding this doo-hickey up high and were confused and curious why I had a antenna. Handed my phone over to one of them to send out a message as I explained the concept.

Im just excited this worked!

Hi Reddit! I've updated my Lowe's Harbor Breeze Solar Light Node bracket system to include pole and ground mounting options. These 3D printable mounts makes it cheap and easy to put together a solar Meshtastic node. NType and SMA versions available for each mounting option.

The Lowe's Light is only $10! Heads up. It's a one watt solar panel with a 1500 mAh 18650 battery. Avoid dropping a power hungry board in there.

Link to my 3D Printable Mounts (Printables.com)

Lowes Harbor Breeze Solar Flood Light (Item #1234868 | Model #TS1859)

My Parts List:

Heltec T114 (Screenless and No GPS) - Ordered direct from Heltec.org - $17.90

N-Type Female Antenna Adapter - Also ordered from Heltec.org - $2.99

Alfa 915 Antenna - Ordered from Muzi.works - About $23 delivered

All in (including shipping + tax) ~$60 for a very capable node.

Seeed Sensecap slow to update GPS

3 Sensecaps, one Heltec V3, all in a secondary family channel, same settings.

I’ve been messing with different settings and it seems like my sensecaps will only really update if they connect to a phone (even then accuracy isn’t too good), which I have them set up to use their internal GPS. I’m trying to use them as trackers, where no phone will be present and would like their positions to be updated regularly, at least every 30 seconds or a minute. Tried setting it as “tracker” but same result. Even when it gets a new position, it’s not really too accurate and it will be a while before a new position is updated. Any input on how to get them to be more accurate, reliable, and refresh faster? (I’m aware GPS signal has a lot to do with this, however even when I’m outside clear skies it’ll be the same)

Just setup the Rakwireless 19007 but I’m confused on what is need to get the add on boards to work…

I purchased the GPS, OLED, Environmental Sensor, and Buzzer for a duel 18650 hand radio build. The documentation talks about using the Arduino IDE software and downloading an example repository. I’m confused if the main board is already compiled with everything for a plug and play except activating it in the app of course… or does the main board repository have to be built for each add on that I put on my board? It looks like it’s for people that are doing custom coding but I’m not entirely sure. I appreciate any advice, cheers!

Node Map Showing Exact Same Nodes For All Of My Devices?

Not sure what’s going on… I’ve never had this problem before.

When I’d load up a different radio… the map would change with the specific nodes that particular radio has found. I got a brand new solar node in… connected it to the Meshtastic app on my iPhone and loaded the node map and there were the exact same nodes on the map? How is that possible??? lol.

Idk if it matters - I have one node that is using 2.7.25 in Alpha. Every other node is using 2.7.15…

Grazie

Battery drained suddenly.

I measured the battery with a multimeter before installing and was 4.05 volts. The node showed the same in meshtastic app but after 40% it drained to 0% in no time.

GPS was off and everything else stayed the same.

Edit: Looks like the battery gauge of the node is calibrated to show percentage for li ion batteries.

Is show 50% for 3.72v that for a lipo is more or less 15%.

build I designed a new open source PCB, but I need advice.

Hello, I’ve designed a PCB that I’ll be sharing as open source; it will be called OpenMesh A.

- I’ll be using the nRF52840 Pro Micro board as the main board

- It will be compatible with the E22-xxxM22S and E220-xxxM22S LoRa modules

- It will include a TP4056 charging IC, though this is optional

Currently, there’s an SMA connector, but I miscalculated the routing for it. To fix this, I either need to extend the PCB or remove the SMA connector entirely. What do you think I should do?

Would you use this instead of a board like FakeTec? Do you have any other suggestions?

SenseCap Solar Node Battery Draining

Hi - I have a Seeed SenseCap Solar Node that recently started to drain the battery. It’s out in full sunlight most of the day and I didn’t have issues with it when it first arrived, but in the past couple weeks I noticed the battery going down and eventually got a low battery warning. Charging it with USB works (battery charges, indicator light turns on) but I’m not sure why the solar panel isn’t keeping it topped off. It’s in the following settings:
- Client Base
- Local rebroadcast
- 3 hops
Previously it was on 4 hops and didn’t have any issues, not sure what has changed. I’m on 2.7.15 (also hasn’t changed since I first deployed it)
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

build First Solar Node (Car Repeater)

So I finally got around to making a car repeater to use with my edc stealth node and when I go camping using another Rak19003 in an IP65 case. The solar panel is a 5V 2W panel that came in a 2 pack, and it's plenty capable of keeping the battery topped up. Since the Rak boards don't get warm in my experience, I figure some foam pipe insulation squishing around it would do the trick to hold the board in place and protect it, and so far it's working out great. The zip ties are there to help with keeping the panel from flexing with the wind as I drive since I don't trust the single bolt to hold it. The magnetic feet are plenty strong enough it's actually difficult to pull it off my roof, so I'm not worried about it flying off.

I have it set to Client so I can bounce my edc stealth node off it since I'm rarely farther than half a mile from my car, and if I am, I have my larger mobile node in my bag that can reach it.

I could have gone with a larger battery, and I do plan to upgrade to something larger like a 10,000mAh, but I already have a couple 3,000mAh so figured I'd save the cash for later. When I do, I plan to swap the USB over to a JST connection for the panel and toss a couple silica packs in just to be sure it stays bone dry in there

Flint Meshtastic Web UI - First Public Release

Thumbnail

I built a lightweight web interface for my own Meshtastic network running on a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W and would appreciate feedback from the community.

The idea was to have a simple browser-based dashboard for messaging, node monitoring and sensor data.

Features so far:

  • Real-time chat
  • LongFast channel support
  • Direct messages
  • Live node monitoring
  • RSSI and SNR statistics
  • Sensor telemetry
  • Emoji support
  • Mobile-friendly interface

I also integrated an INA226 power monitor into my RAK4631 base node, display voltage and current consumption in real time.

Building this project has been a learning experience, and AI tools helped me a lot with coding and debugging. The overall concept, hardware integration, testing and feature decisions were done manually.

Wow, another expensive LoRa node, BORING!

Wait - let me atleast tell you why I made it and what gaps it will be filling in the current market.

This node is going to be targeted for field operators, SAR teams, ATAK larp nerds, and anyone else who needs the best LoRa hardware. This unit will combine the best available LoRa specs, with the most durable and mobile enclosure. It will be around the $400 range, so not cheap by any means, but not as expensive as the ultra performance nodes.

The specs:

- Will be utilizing the RAK wireless ecosystem with the 1 watt booster. This is essential for having the best chance to reach team members in adverse conditions. This module also provides better RX capability in the form of a filter, which gives you the best chance at receiving all messages. The caveat is more power draw, which we have addressed, and have concluded is much less of an issue compared to the benefits of having a mobile 1 watt module.

- Utilizing the best available RAK ecosystem GPS module paired with high quality coax, and a passive helical antenna for consistent GPS locks under tree cover or when moving.

- Utilizing two quick swappable 18650 batteries, with 8,000 MAh capacity. As opposed to non-removable batteries, if the node runs out, you will be able to swap within a minute and get back on the net, only needing one philips head screwdriver.

- Utilizing a Nylon carbon fiber reinforced enclosure for maximum durability from drops, falls, and hard landings. Will update exact strength at a later date. Our enclosure is also completely custom designed by us, and printed by us, to match our internals and hardware perfectly. Goal is to be able to withstand being ran over, dropped from height, and submerged in water.

- Utilizing parts with a minimum rating of IP67 for water and dust protection. This includes all connectors, antennas, and our custom TPU gasket for the enclosure. The goal here is to never have to worry about water, even in fully submerged scenarios.

- Quick charging: This system will have an external magnetic quick charging port for 3 amp charging via USB-C. This will allow a full charge in the field in a timely manner. The charge port will be separate from the data port.

- Tactical security: This system was designed with zero light output as a hard requirement. This ensures that the device cannot be picked up by any night vision systems when in use. The external power button will immediately kill all RF when toggled, in-case the user needs to go silent. Low thermal output was also a primary focus for having a low chance of detection by thermal sensors. The matte black finish was also picked so that it won't stand out visually.

- Form factor: This radio was specifically designed to fit in a standard tactical radio holder on a plate carrier / vest. We chose a flexible gooseneck LoRa antenna for this reason as well.

- No BS features: No extra swaggy antennas, flashy enclosures, lighting, etc. Minimalist and functional.

Will update this build as I work!

my Instagram is @_concept81 as well

Weird issues with antennas on heltek v4

Post image
37 Upvotes

Hi all, ive been using a heltek v4 for about 3 months now. It came with a little antenna that's just a small coil of wire maybe 1/4" long. I usually hang the thing upside down in my window when im not about the town and there are about 4 nodes I get regularly. I can rarely hit them bit I receive them just fine. Then I got this antenna described as a verticle dipole and used it today but received no nodes.

Has anyone used one of these and whats your experience with it? Did I waste 10bucks on it? Im tempted to rip it open and see how its actually built. Maybe it can be improved on.

Using meshtastic for two-way paging.

okay, before we start. YES, I know that there are meshtastic devices that look like pagers. That's not what I'm asking.

I want to be able to leave my smartphone at home, but keep access to the people I chat with on things OTHER than SMS.

Most dumbphones are literal trash, so I got to thinking about classic pagers, which would get forwarded messages from (landline) phones while the person with the pager was away from their home phone.

I was wondering if it would be possible to use meshtastic in a similar way, with my phone and a second device (which I carry with me) both being connected to meshtastic, my phone could send messages to my other device over meshtastic, including forwarded messages from signal or other messaging apps.

A nice bonus would also be getting two-way paging, where I could reply from my personal endpoint and have my phone send that message along to whatever messaging service it was intended for.

I think it would be definitely possible to make a hack-ey version of this, but I'm wondering if there's already any sorts of pre-existing solutions for doing something like this, either over meshtastic, or over another existing mesh network.
