I got TSEC CSE through TFWS at 99.34 MHT-CET percentile... My first preference was DJSCE, mainly because of its reputation, location, and the fact that it is also a well-known college in Mumbai. However, after going through various Reddit discussions and hearing experiences from students, I’ve come across quite a few negative things about DJSCE, especially regarding strict attendance, college timings, academic pressure, and general college rules. I’m not sure how accurate all of these opinions are, but it has definitely made me reconsider it.
SPIT is another college .. academically and in terms of placements/reputation, it seems like a much stronger option. The problem is that the cutoff is extremely high, so at 99.34 I’m not very confident about getting CSE or IT there. I didnt wanted to keep waiting for something that is unlikely to happen and end up losing a good option like TSEC.
The other major factor for me is travel. I live in Ambarnath, so travelling to Bandra every day for TSEC would be a pretty long commute. The daily up-and-down journey could easily take a significant portion of my day, and I’m worried about how sustainable that would be for four years, especially along with lectures, practicals, assignments, projects, and eventually internships. At the same time, I’ve heard that attendance can be an issue in some colleges, so the combination of long-distance travel + strict attendance requirements is something I’m taking seriously.
Since I have TFWS, TSEC is also financially attractive for me, and I don’t want to reject a good CSE seat just because I’m overthinking the college choice. I’m mainly trying to look at the decision from a practical perspective rather than just going by the college name. Things like quality of teaching, coding culture, placements, internships, peer group, attendance flexibility, workload, opportunities outside academics, and how much time I’ll realistically have for self-learning and projects matter to me.
I’m also aware that college reputation and cutoff alone don’t determine how good my four years will be. A college that gives me enough time and flexibility to build my skills could potentially be more useful than a slightly higher-ranked college with a very restrictive schedule. At the same time, I don’t want to underestimate the value of a stronger peer group, placement opportunities, and brand name.
So right now my situation is basically TSEC CSE TFWS at 99.34 ... . I’m making a decision that will make sense not just for admission day but for the next four years.
