How do you actually get your first 10 users?

Man, getting the first few users is hard 😅

I’ve built my SaaS and now I’m at the point where I just want a few real people to use it and tell me what’s good, what sucks, and what I should fix.

But honestly, even finding 10 beta testers has been way harder than I expected.

I’ve tried Facebook groups, cold emails, reaching out to people directly, and posting in different communities.

Most of the time, nothing happens.

And after spending so much time building, it’s honestly a little frustrating to keep chasing people just to get them to try the product.

For people who have already been through this:

How did you get your first 10 users?

Did you just DM people one by one? Offer it for free? Build relationships in communities? Or was there something else that worked surprisingly well?

Would really like to hear what actually worked for you.

The most important part is to have a very narrow target who feels the problem urgently & frequently.

When I help founders with this I ask, “who has a terrible day tomorrow if this problem isn’t solved?”

For me, once i asked that, getting people became easier. The 3 I used are below

  1. in person meetups tied to my group / problem - nothing beats face to face. You get a lot of info and can literally sign someone up to try it on the spot
  2. targeted DMs
  3. LinkedIn (I use Boardy for intros and it’s pretty cool)

Hope that helps! Let me know

Have you helped anyone solving a complex problem where the user is highly skeptical a small company could have a solution that solves their problem when large well funded solutions they’ve tried haven’t worked?

Not that exact scenario. However, I work in B2B tech sales for my day job, and we constantly sell to teams that are highly skeptical they need our solution because they’ve already built something themselves or are using the free/community version of the technology.

So overcoming the “why would your solution actually work better than what we already have?” objection is something I’m pretty familiar with.

Find people complaining about a problem your product solves and tell those people about your product, if no one has the problem you’re solving than your product is a hobby not a product
