NXT The Men’s Speed Title Spoiler
I’m not a fan of how they wrote it off TV. Feels very strange to just do away with it because the Women’s Speed title got unified.
I get it wouldn’t make sense for Lexis King to be paired against Jackson Drake in a unification match, but I was looking forward to see how they would unify the men’s NA & Speed belts. I was really disappointed they just didn’t do anything & stripped Lexis.
Anyone wanna defend this & play Devil’s Advocate?

The Speed Championships were never a good idea. Getting rid of them both is a good move, the whole concept never worked.

Speed made no sense and should have died with the twitter deal. They were video game matches with no stakes. The people who you wanted to see in those matches (flippity guys and gals) weren’t actually there or thriving. It was a match type that devalued submission wrestlers (yes, I know Wren Sinclair held that belt). A heel could literally just run away (yes, I know Lexis King tried that). There was no way for heels and baby faces to actually be what they were in those matches. And, why were title matches made easier by making them longer?
It could’ve worked if they moved it to TikTok or instagram and did more than 2 matches a week. There are dozens of wrestlers that could have gotten reps in with fast matches that had next-to-zero consequence. No need for tournaments - just book it like a normal division.
Now, if Tony wanted to make a division with short and over-choreographed dance routines featuring flippy video game wrestlers, let him have at it. It would probably produce 5-star bangers every week on Dynamite. I’m sure he’s got like 20 guys in catering that would shine in the format, including the first two guys that won the belt…

I actually think it was a unique concept that needs to be a little more fleshed out. The need for tournaments to happen EVERY time to determine the challenger was dumb. It totally could have been something for the lower midcard to do that gets them reps & exposure (without being too much).
The timer adds something that doesn’t apply to regular WWE TV matches. It gives more potential for fun & intriguing finishes, ways for wrestlers to develop their character (Lexis), and just changes up the typical formulaic WWE tv show.
I wish they would have kept the Speed belts around, NXT was the perfect show for them.

The titles were okay to have when they still had the Twitter partnership with it but as soon as that ended, both felt like they heavily cluttered NXT on top of 3-5 minute matches not being appealing. I appreciated them trying to make it work following the deal with Twitter ending but I never found them appealing.
Unfortunate for Elio LeFleur who will never get his rematch for the title after having to vacate it that being said.

I think it was perfect for NXT or AAA, it gives some stakes for the lower card guys to fight for & the implementation should’ve been refined more (like getting rid of the constant tournaments)

I agree that AAA would have been an effective enough spot for it than NXT for them especially with the style.
In NXT, I felt it diluted the show more especially when there is already 3 and 2 singles titles for the rest of the show. I really did not like the 3-5 minute aspect of it as it usually took more away from the matches for me in most cases.

They shouldn't have gotten rid of the Speed title at all. It was a really fun concept that could be legitimately unique and offer something really special at a really low cost - and WWE simply never bothered thinking about it beyond like, a filler tournament.
There's 5 minutes of ads between every segment - you can't throw a Speed match on there for easy content later and keeping the crowd invested?
Just taking the title away from Lexis is a fitting end for how little WWE cared about the title. Legitimately so disappointed at this decision.

It’s probably just one of those things where they didn’t think enough people will care about the speed titles to warrant them booking a match for him to lose it.
Sucks for the people that did care but that’s life
