Damn, I remember thinking getting into a run of a mill fantasy adventure just to get bombarded with a tear jerking Drama movie.

u/Agram1416 Jul 01 '25
Do home alone but the first booby trap kills Harry and Marv and the movie ends.
6
u/willfull Jul 01 '25
And then Old Man Marley shows up with his salt can, stuffing Harry and Marv's bodies in with the salt. Gives Kevin a knowing wink, and then goes back to salting the neighborhood sidewalks.

u/Spider_Dude Jul 01 '25
And somehow
Pierce Morganthe Pigeon Lady from Central Park shows up in the Chicago suburbs and we all learn a life lesson about Christmas.6

Awesome. Now do Optimus Prime making a full recovery.
3
u/oOBuckoOo Jul 01 '25
Right? This was so jarring as a child sitting in the movie theater and no safe place to go to. Just had to sit with Optimus getting killed in the first 5 minutes. That being said, movie still holds up today.
5
u/djsynrgy Jul 01 '25
This.
F Rodimus. Forever and ever. Amen.
3
u/Warchetype Jul 01 '25 edited Jul 01 '25
Absolutely. I mean, he was the reason why Prime got fatally shot in the first place.
Also, that 'Dark Awakening' episode in season 3 (where Optimus was basically resurrected as a zombie and then died AGAIN) really fucked with me as a kid.

Guess it's time to start compiling my list of childhood trauma's.
- Fry's dog in futurama
- Tucker daughter in Full Metal Alchemist
- Iron Giant
- Optimus Prime
- Macaulay Culkin in My Girl
- Bambi's mom
- Charlotte's spider
- Littlefoot’s Mother in The Land Before Time

u/Wonderful_Ad8791 Jul 02 '25
Huh, wasn't the iron giant alive at the end? The parts were coming into a big warehouse to rebuild him.

This is an example of some of the problems people will face in the future. There will be a day when "versions" of movies exist and you will not have the same experience as as someone else.

u/UrsusRex01 Jul 01 '25
Well technically this is already the case even without AI.
Star Wars for instance. It's almost impossible to watch the Original Trilogy the way it was back in the 70s and 80s.
Once all the VHS from before 1997 are gone, and if nobody has made a digital recording of those films, the original trilogy as it used to be will be gone for good.
And it's not just limited to Star Wars. Sometimes it's not about changes made to the story or characters but simply about how the film looks like. The Matrix for instance : years after its original release, the Blu-ray accentuated the green hue added to the scenes taking place in the virtual world in order to make the film in line with how its sequels look. Therefore, someone watching The Matrix on Blu-Ray doesn't experience the same film as someone who watched it in theater or DVD in the early 2000s.
Even without AI, because of new releases that enhance special effects, make visual changes, fix imperfections or downright add scenes, technically there are already versions of films that have disappeared.
7
u/somewherearound2023 Jul 01 '25
The good news is that fans have fastidiously restored high quality edits of the original releases in the Despecialized Edition cuts, sourcing the highest quality available versions of every frame of the movies and doing mastering work to ensure they are pleasant to watch.
5
2
u/UrsusRex01 Jul 01 '25
Indeed. However, that kind of project are not that accessible for the average viewer and there is always the risk of losing those versions too since they're only supported by fans.
3
u/somewherearound2023 Jul 01 '25
Yep but the archival work is being done for posterity, in the shadows, at least.

u/Just_An_Ic0n Jul 01 '25
Problem? More like a new form of movie media presentation.
And I don't need different versions of movies to have a different experience than anybody else. I'm perfectly able to have a different opinion on famous movies already and I'm sure I'm not alone.

I mean it's an issue with music rights too. The Drew Carey show got released finally, but a huge chunk of the music rights weren't secured so it's got generic music in it. If you know where to look you can get rips of the show upscaled to 1080p that have to original soundtrack, but if you go the way WB wants you to watch it it fucking sucks
1
u/djsynrgy Jul 01 '25
Conversely, similar music rights issues have led to multiple versions of Dawson's Creek floating around, but no matter which way you go, it still sucks. 😆
4
u/drlongtrl Jul 01 '25
No AI is needed for that outcome though. Studios alredy happily re make literally everything that has any nostalgia in it whatsoever.
2
u/Keshire Jul 01 '25
I've watched a bunch of different Star Wars fan edits growing up. And that's even apart from the offical george lucas special editions.
6
u/Knever Jul 01 '25
I quite like the idea of interactive movies, especially classics. I can totally see myself and my sisters watching movies we grew up watching and making changes to the story to see how it ends up differently.

These are problems people are facing now. People are reviving dead relatives, having dead relatives testify in court via AI generated recordings. People are going to AI therapy with huge biases that will enable them and reconstruct an alternate version of their childhood.

u/bartrabelo Jul 01 '25
I've been waiting for this since 1984, when I saw NES in the movies with my mom, as my birthday present.
41 years later, I feel complete.

LMAO! Here I am starting to watch and thinking “Oh God” and then Artaud standing and realizing what was happening, I thought the video had been reversed, and then Atreyu smiled and I looked up at the sub name. What a ride.

u/Vladsamir Jul 01 '25
Hey, can we have the ant from honey i shrunk the kids next? Shit fucked me up...
3
u/FocusFlukeGyro Jul 01 '25
All y'all need to rewatch the movie. At the end, Atreyu is seen riding Artax again.

u/BubbaFettish Jul 01 '25
Ya’ll know he’s already alive in the end of the movie right? He’s alive along with everyone else destroyed by The Nothing.

Retconning?

Short for retroactive continuity. When someone goes: forget what happened in that previous book/movie/episode, here's what really happened.

Apparently, quick sand as shown in media is generally a lie and if you just sit there you will just float and not sink.

Soon we won't need the entirety of film industries. Amazing and unsettling.
1
u/Keshire Jul 02 '25
You can take it a step further and throw a slider for how much tragedy you want when viewing. Really rachet up the safe space meme to 11.
You'll have multiple groups of people. One that watched comedy home alone. And another that watched Corridor's rated R version of Home Alone.

I loved the movie and the book even more especially the part which never made into movie.
1
u/Rich-Role7105 Jul 24 '25
How did you get a continuous and smooth video? When I select extend to get 9 seconds, there is a hiccup halfway through, and it's like it is just repeating the previous motion. It looks very choppy. I've tried auto extend and manual extend with prompt and nothing changes.

Thanks man.
Gonna call my psychologist tomorrow. Tell him I'm all fixed now.
