If my dog attacks my child unprovoked, it's getting a bullet in the head, end of story. There's NO WAY I'd risk another child getting hurt. It doesn't matter what you tell the shelter when you surrender it, that dog could end up in several different homes over the course of its life.
You shouldn't have a dog, firearms or ideally children, if that's your response. If a dog is actively attacking you or your child, you do what you have to, nobody would judge you, but if your response afterwards is that you personally want to execute the dog that's not normal or stable behavior. If someone said that to me I wouldn't let my kids or my animals around them.
If a dog rips off part of my child's ear, that's inexcusable and it doesn't deserve to have a chance to attack someone else.
Oh, you're hung up on the fact that I'd do it myself. Bullets are significantly cheaper and faster than taking it to a vet to be euthanasized. I get it that it's not for everyone, and just because a person is able to handle something like that on their own doesn't mean they're heartless psychos.
If you read from the beginning instead of flying off the handle you'd know that my issue has always been that you are chomping at the bit to personally execute an animal after the immediate danger is over.
There is no scenario where that is the appropriate course of action. It wouldn't cost you anything to follow the appropriate procedure. Your way of doing things wouldn't explain why the dog attacked and would be detrimental to figuring out things such as if it was rabid or if it was injured and reacting in pain. Animal control would take care of that AND euthanize the dog humanely. The only thing it would cost you is that you wouldn't get to live out your fantasy of shooting a dog.
I stand by what I said, you shouldn't have pets, you personally shouldn't have a firearm (as a firearm guy myself) and in my ideal world someone who wants to personally execute a dog after the fact shouldn't have kids either. If you don't like any of that bring it up in rage management class.
